Book THE POETRY OF Sunshine

Download or read book THE POETRY OF Sunshine written by SUNSHINE and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2012-10-16 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hello, this is SunShine, coming at you with wisps and wonderings of poems, all written on pages of tablets in a state mental hospital and typed up on my relatively inexpensive laptop, the one I bought while living in a van, by city parks and the river. Here, within these pages, discover the thoughts of a modern-day diagnosed young woman with bipolar disorder, committed and locked up for hearing a sole sentence of a voice from God, and well, painting all the apartment walls. Bipolar disorder, commonly known as Manic-Depression, is characterized by extreme changes in mood and behavior. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, bipolar disorder affects 2.6% of the population of the United States, approximately 5.7% million adults. Many bipolar people are extremely creative and excel in the performing arts, music, writing, painting, and photography. I suffered through an “episode” to find myself homeless, 1700 miles from my home, and broke, and then committed to the state hospital. Poetry has always been a major form of expression for me, words spilling on paper like water from a faucet. One thing we could do to mark our individuality locked up was write, (and crochet of course). I hope Poems from the Heart of Manic Depression are found to be engrossing and entertaining. Indulge in SunShine Artwork/Photography and the work of contributing photographer Aaron to gladden the eye and lubricate the soul. Gone Scooby with a pallet knife and oils. Sunshine

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Frankly--H. Miller was defended by me only because he spoke against the War, and I think that was the main reason for his fame. Now--I do not believe, what with Palmistry, Chirography, Phrenology, and the Great Cryptogram, he will survive the retooling period. I honestly think he is the most insufferable snob I have ever met--but all reformed pandhandlers are like that.... in a letter from Kenneth Rexroth to James Laughlin

Book A Poetry of Presence

Download or read book A Poetry of Presence written by Bernard I. Duffey and published by Univ of Wisconsin Press. This book was released on 1986 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: William Carlos Williams was an inventive writer never confined by any static genre or aesthetic postulate. In this authoritative study, Bernard Duffey recognizes that literary dynamism as he approaches the full breadth of Williams's work--including his poetry, prose, fiction, and drama--as an interrelated and interdependent web of writing. The result, the first truly comprehensive examination of a major American author and his kinetic art, will interest students and scholars of Williams, American literature, and modern poetry and criticism. Central to Duffey's study is a critical framework based on Kenneth Burke's A Grammar of Motives and the perception of the poet as an agent working in relation to a "scene" and its content--in this case, the geographical and cultural locale that Williams clung to. Williams's work, Duffey argues, was informed by the dramatic sense of himself as a literary actor seeking embodiment of a dynamic, altering whole and his present condition of being. Ultimately, he stresses, the writer was more engaged in expressing literary action than in forging literary objects. Duffey amplifies this critical view through a close reading of specific works. Examining Williams's principal writings in the lights that seem most immediate to them, he tackles a variety of themes: the pervasiveness of scene in In the American Grain and the fiction; the role of agent or poetic person in Kora in Hell, A Voyage to Pagany, Paterson, and Pictures from Brueghel; the function of poetic agency in the short poems, and of poetic action in Williams's drama.

Book Denise Levertov

Download or read book Denise Levertov written by Dana Greene and published by University of Illinois Press. This book was released on 2012-09-14 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Levertov was the quintessential romantic. She wanted to live vividly, intensely, passionately, and on a grand scale. Once she acclimated herself to America, the dreamy lyric poetry of her early years gave way to the joy and wonder of ordinary life. By the late 1960s and early 1970s, however, her poems began to engage the issues of her times. The crystalline and luminous poetry of her last years stands as final witness to a lifetime of searching for the mystery embedded in life itself. This volume represents the first attempt to set Levertov's poetry within the framework of her often tumultuous life.

Book The Life and Works of Korean Poet Kim My ng sun

Download or read book The Life and Works of Korean Poet Kim My ng sun written by Jung Ja Choi and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-11-30 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Life and Works of Korean Poet Kim Myŏng-sun offers an introduction to Korea’s first modern woman writer to publish a collection of creative works, Kim Myŏng-sun (1896–ca. 1954). Despite attempts by male contemporaries to assassinate her character, Kim was an outspoken writer and an early feminist, confronting patriarchal Korean society in essays, plays, poems, and short stories. This volume is the first to offer a detailed analysis in English of Kim’s poetry. The poems examined in this volume can be considered early twentieth-century versions of #MeToo literature, mirroring the harrowing account of her sexual assault, and also subversive challenges to traditional institutions, dealing with themes such as romantic free love, same-sex love, single womanhood, and explicit female desire and passion. The Life and Works of Korean Poet Kim Myŏng-sun restores a long-neglected woman writer to her rightful place in the history of Korean literature, shedding light on the complexity of women’s lives in Korea and contributing to the growing interest in modern Korean women’s literature in the West.
