Book Evidence Based Practice for Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Response

Download or read book Evidence Based Practice for Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Response written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2020-11-28 with total page 501 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When communities face complex public health emergencies, state local, tribal, and territorial public health agencies must make difficult decisions regarding how to effectively respond. The public health emergency preparedness and response (PHEPR) system, with its multifaceted mission to prevent, protect against, quickly respond to, and recover from public health emergencies, is inherently complex and encompasses policies, organizations, and programs. Since the events of September 11, 2001, the United States has invested billions of dollars and immeasurable amounts of human capital to develop and enhance public health emergency preparedness and infrastructure to respond to a wide range of public health threats, including infectious diseases, natural disasters, and chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear events. Despite the investments in research and the growing body of empirical literature on a range of preparedness and response capabilities and functions, there has been no national-level, comprehensive review and grading of evidence for public health emergency preparedness and response practices comparable to those utilized in medicine and other public health fields. Evidence-Based Practice for Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Response reviews the state of the evidence on PHEPR practices and the improvements necessary to move the field forward and to strengthen the PHEPR system. This publication evaluates PHEPR evidence to understand the balance of benefits and harms of PHEPR practices, with a focus on four main areas of PHEPR: engagement with and training of community-based partners to improve the outcomes of at-risk populations after public health emergencies; activation of a public health emergency operations center; communication of public health alerts and guidance to technical audiences during a public health emergency; and implementation of quarantine to reduce the spread of contagious illness.

Book excerpt: The Power to Save a Life Jacob Chastain grew up in an environment filled with drugs and violence. Inside the home that should have felt safe, fear and anxiety were the desperate norm. Stability and security eluded him as he was shuffled between family and friends that would take him in. But at school, things were different. There, day after day, year after year, Chastain's teachers saved him. Teach Me, Teacher is the true story of a childhood marked by heartache--a story that may be similar to that of the children sitting in your classroom. It's the story that shaped Jacob Chastain into the educator he is today. Lessons learned from his experiences as a child and as a growing educator offer reflections on the trials and triumphs facing teachers and students everywhere. From these lessons, we learn that one's darkest moments can ultimately lead to a meaningful and fulfilling life when someone cares enough to step in and make a difference. Written in celebration of teachers and the power of education, Teach Me, Teacher affirms that you have the power to save a life. "Jacob Chastain pours his heart out on the pages of Teach Me, Teacher by sharing his personal journey through childhood trauma. Book Canceling Appointment with Death

Download or read book Canceling Appointment with Death written by Akintayo Emmanuel and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-11-03 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization declared COVID-19--a disease caused by a virus known as SARS-CoV-2--a global pandemic. The year 2020 was the year that brought global change that requires a global shift, and we can't be tone-deaf to it. This shift demands we respond swiftly to the problems. Novel coronavirus claimed its first victim in Wuhan Province of China. In the blink of an eye, the invisible enemy had soared and has taken the lives of thousands with no regard for social class, race, or status. Those identified as the most powerful in the world were equally affected as money, power, and fame did nothing to stop the virus from spreading. As of April 30, 2021, about 3.17 million people died of COVID-19 worldwide. Many wonder why God, who is Love, would allow humanity to go through these horrendous times. The COVID-19 pandemic storm has revealed the debility of human beings and the perfection of our God. God might not hurriedly change the situation, but He uses the situation to change us. God uses this time to test the faith of those genuinely serving and fully committed to Him. In Canceling Appointment with Death, COVID-19 Pandemic, 'Tayo Emmanuel invites readers around the globe to learn how to dwell in the secret place of the Most High and how to build a personal Noah's Ark for the individual and the family at such a time as this. This secret place of the Most High and Noah's Ark is never a place or a structure. It is Jesus Christ who has established us inside a kingdom that cannot be shaken and who has all things under His perfect control, working all things after the counsel of His own will. How can every appointment with death, including COVID-19 and other future pandemics, be annulled? 'Tayo Emmanuel offers us answers from the revelation of God's Word that all enemies have been placed under Jesus's feet, including death, the last enemy. And the last days' church of Jesus Christ, the many membered body of Christ, are the feet of Jesus Christ that will take Jesus, the head of the body of Christ to every nation of the world to usher in the end of the old and the beginning of the new. But now we see--yet not all things--put under him clearly shows that the Lord Jesus Christ, through the power of His Holy Spirit, is at work at this moment in history.

Book excerpt: Cruel. Heartless. Quarantined. The ruthless boys of Everlake Prep never saw lockdown coming. But the virus isn't their number one enemy.I am. And as if being confined to a boarding school for the elite wasn't bad enough, now I'm stuck in isolation with the boys who hate me most too. Saint, Kyan and Blake. The Night Keepers. Or so they call themselves. They've embodied the Native American legend which lives in this valley, taking on the role of the monsters who lurk in the forest. And though they act like beasts, they may also be the most tempting creatures I've ever seen. With the virus escalating and my dad's name splashed through the news, my entire world is falling apart. What he did has cast a dark shadow over me. And the Night Keepers want to make me pay for his crimes. Then things went from bad to worse when I touched the sacred rock. A rock which supposedly holds a curse to bind me as the Night Keepers' slave. And as crazy as it sounds, I decided to play along. Because there are things about me they don't know. Things my dad has hidden from me for years. All I can be sure of is that I have to find a way to escape this school. But until then, those savage boys are making my life a living hell. As the virus sweeps through the country and the world twists into something ugly and unknown, the kings of this school become true monarchs. Even the teachers bow to them now. And I'm kinda glad about that 'stay six feet away from one another' rule, because without it, I know they'd rip me apart. At least there's a silver lining. I'm cosying up to Coach Monroe. My hot as hell, brooding P.E. teacher who has a vendetta of his own against the Night Keepers. And with his help, I may succeed at doing more than escaping the clutches of these heartless fiends. I might even destroy them along the way. My father taught me how to be strong. How to prepare for the end of the world. So this isn't going to be the end of my world, mark my words. But if I'm able to use my mind and body to bring these assholes to their knees, it might just be the end of theirs. This is a high school bully romance series where the main character will end up with more than one love interest. It may have triggers for some as it has off the charts angst, dark love-hate themes, scenes of intense bullying and some violence (not aimed towards the main character) and is not for the faint of heart. Prepare to enrol at Everlake Prep. Bring your hand sanitiser, face masks and toilet paper to barter with, but don't expect to hold onto them for long. Because it's time to go into quarantine with the Night Keepers. And everything you own now belongs to them.
