Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the International Examinations Inquiry (IEI), an international, well-funded scientific project that operated in the 1930s, attracting key world figures in educational research, and which undertook significant exchanges of data. Originally involving the USA, Scotland, England, France, Germany and Switzerland, the IEI grew to include Norway, Sweden and Finland. Funded by Carnegie money, these researchers included major comparative educationalists, New Education Fellowship academics, statisticians and educational psychologists. They met at a significant time in the emergence of international scientific work in educational research between the USA and Europe; they were a midway stage between earlier individual contacts by well-travelled researchers, usually towards North America, and the development of joint research projects, sustained over time. The focus of the IEI was on methods of examining pupils for the coming expansion of secondary education, but their key problems were to do with establishing standardized methods of measurement, international scholarly communication and comparative understandings of national diversity. The IEI researchers acted to support national achievements and strategies within the borders of the nation and internationally, to exchange methods and results. In retrospect, they appear to be visible in their knowledge communities and national education histories but invisible in their internationalism.

Book A Gift That Changed the World

Download or read book A Gift That Changed the World written by Dr. Ronald Kovack and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-04-19 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book about charitable giving and stewardship. It is a resource book for churches and their leadership as well as the average church member. In it, the author addresses the age-old question: did Jesus or the New Testament teach tithing? How much are we instructed to give in today's world? Are we to give from the gross or our net income? While doing the research for this book, the author makes a remarkable and heretofore silent conclusion. By using a cause-and-effect analysis, the writer postulates that the gift of the Corinthian church was used by God to facilitate every major spiritual awakening or revival throughout history. From Augustine, Calvin, Luther, Wesley, and many others who championed revivals, the Corinthian gift, via a cause-and-effect link, changed the course of church history. Revitalize your church giving and expand its mission and ministry using the same concepts. By applying the lessons of the past from the Corinthians to modern-day stewardship, the reader's view of giving will never be the same. In addition, Dr. Kovack shares secrets of church management that everyone in church administration will want, such as the charitable gift annuity and the charitable remainder trust, which are also explained in this book. Whether it is regular weekly giving or a capital campaign to build an addition, the principles and insights in this book are a valuable resource.

Book Considering Conservative Women in the Gendering of Modern British Politics

Download or read book Considering Conservative Women in the Gendering of Modern British Politics written by Clarisse Berthezène and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-12-17 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume examines how the British Conservative Party has appealed to women, the roles that women have played in the party, and the tense relationship between women’s activism on the Right and feminism. Covering the period since the early 20th century, the contributions each question assumptions about the reactionary response of the British Right, Margaret Thatcher’s party, to women’s issues and to their political aspirations. How have women been mobilized by the Conservative Party? What kind of party appeals has the British Conservative Party designed to attract women as party workers and as voters? Developing successful strategies to attract women voters since 1918, and appealing to certain notional women’s issues, and having produced the only two women Prime Minters of the UK, the Conservative Party has its own special relationship with women in the modern period. The shifting status of women and opportunities for women in politics in modern Britain has been garnering more scholarly attention recently, and the centenary of women’s partial suffrage in 2018 and Astor 100 in 2019 has done much to excite wider attention and public interest in these debates. However, the role of Conservative women has too often been seen as problematic, especially because of general assumption that feminism is only allied to leftist movements and political positions. This volume explores these themes through a range of case studies, covering the period from the early 20th to the 21st century. The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue of the journal, Women’s History Review.
