Book 50 Ways of Saying Fabulous

Download or read book 50 Ways of Saying Fabulous written by Graeme Aitken and published by 20Ten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-22 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The poignant but also endearingly comic triumphs and tribulations of sweet, fat, theatrical Billy-Boy continue in Book 2 of 50 Ways of Saying Fabulous. Billy-Boy has always loathed farm chores, until his father employs Jamie, a sexy farm worker, for the summer. Suddenly Billy has not just a work mate, but a buddy, who is cheerful and enthusiastic company. Being with Jamie completely eclipses the burden of the chores. They even become a pleasure. After all Jamie looks like David Cassidy and likes to work shirtless! But Billy’s idyll with Jamie proves all too brief as other people intrude and interfere. Belinda Pepper, the most notorious girl in the entire district, utterly enthrals him with her wicked ways. Then Lou, Billy’s estranged cousin, discovers Jamie and goes all-out to win him away from Billy for herself. But Billy is not the only one who feels lonely, jealous and frustrated… With something illicit growing in an abandoned toilet, clandestine goings-on down at the old gaol, a bloody murder, and a theatrical finale with a dozen costume changes, Billy-Boy’s life is even more dramatic than his favourite TV show Lost in Space. Praise for 50 Ways of Saying Fabulous: 'If I knew fifty ways of saying fabulous, I’d use them all to praise this charming first novel.' EDMUND WHITE 'It has the fast-running clarity of a good yarn, yet this is a fresh telling of the story of a gay awakening. Infinitely real ... grotesque and funny and moving by turns.' PETER WELLS ‘A wonderful cast of characters, lovingly drawn and lightened with the right dash of maliciousness ... Aitken manages to make something extraordinary out of the ordinary ... (and) shows so much skill and gives so much pleasure.’ CAMPAIGN ‘50 Ways of Saying Fabulous is an honest, funny and sometimes painful read. Confidently and convincingly written, it is a welcome addition to the gay coming of age genre; the collection of works in which we see ourselves reflected and refracted, and find fifty ways of saying “me”.’ MELBOURNE STAR OBSERVER ‘... one of the very best novels released this year. Witty, warm and original.’ CLEO ‘... a secret and magic story which is grotesque and infinitely funny ... a zany book, highly entertaining, and with enough twists and turns to keep you glued to the end ... 50 Ways is fabulous, whichever way you say it.’ BARFLY

Book 50 Ways to Leave Your 50 S

Download or read book 50 Ways to Leave Your 50 S written by Scott Ludwig and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2015-02-20 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In my fourth book, In it for the Long Run, one of the most popular chapters with the readers was You can call me Al. It was all about my good friend Al Barker, the only person Ive ever met who brakes with his left foot. Wanting to capitalize on the popularity of using titles of Paul Simon songs, I reviewed his repertoire for an applicable title for this book. Since the book is about my last year on earth before turning 60 years of age, I initially considered Slip Slidin Away but thought that might project a negative connotation towards getting older. Instead I chose one of Simons more popular songs and gave it my own slant as I wanted to do 50 things Id never done before in the 12 months leading up to becoming a sexagenarian (dont get the wrong idea--it just means a person between 60 and 69 years of age). On my 60th birthday (December 10, 2014) someone asked me how I felt. I said just like I did when I was 59. Heck, it was only yesterday (although my grandson calls it lasterday which if you really think about it makes a lot more sense). As for the 50 things Id never done before. dont expect anything outrageous (jumping out of an airplane), dangerous (wrestling an alligator) or spectacular (making a dinosaur appear--but if I could my grandson would be SO impressed). Just 50 things pretty much anyone could do...as long as they have the right attitude. And by right attitude I mean sometimes you just have to say what the ___. Just because I turned 60 doesnt mean I reached maturity overnight. After all, maturity is for old people.

Book 50 Ways to Die

  • Author : Jerry L. West
  • Publisher : AuthorHouse
  • Release : 2011-06-27
  • ISBN : 1456746758
  • Pages : 236 pages

Download or read book 50 Ways to Die written by Jerry L. West and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2011-06-27 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 50 Ways To Die is a compendium of death and sometimes violent crimes occurring in the county, and the social trends that surround them. West’s research centered on records of Coroner’s Inquest and microfilm of the newspaper, Yorkville Enquirer, both of which are archived at the History Center in York. The inquests records had not been studied until West began his research which coincided with members of the staff and volunteers were indexing. A great deal of appreciation is extended to Archivist Nancy Sanbet, her staff and the several volunteers who assisted. And a special thank you to Miles Gardner who gave the idea for this book by his Murder and Mayhem in Old Kershaw. This book gives accounts of murders, suicides, accidental deaths and gruesome infanticides, ending in 1929. West has randomly extracted more than twenty murders, some of which are still retold in local kitchens and living rooms. The list includes the 1929 chilling murder of Faye Wilson King by her husband, Rafe. This murder brought national publicity to the small western York County town of Sharon. Also included is the 1922 murder of playing children by a man angry over water in Clover, and the brutal murder of Johnny Lee Good in 1888. People of York County have murdered over women, food, liquor, money, slander and unpaid bills and they did it with planks, bare hands, guns, knives and even ironing boards. Sometimes these occurred on the spur of the moment with overheated blood and sometimes with cold calculation. While most crimes were white on white or black on black, the subject of race has been excluded expect in cases where mentioning it was for clarification. One thing is clear in many of these cases, justice came to some, and the times were certainly not safe for minorities, the poor, and children.
