Book An Accurate and Efficient Method for Reconstruction of 3D Faces from Stereo Images

Download or read book An Accurate and Efficient Method for Reconstruction of 3D Faces from Stereo Images written by Vuong V. Le and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thesis, we introduce a novel algorithm for reconstructing the 3D shape and texture model of human faces from two stereo images which are captured from calibrated cameras. Our approach works in a sparse to dense manner: we first build a coarse shape estimation based on 3D keypoints, and then use a linear morphable model to efficiently match the detailed shape and texture. The features used for the fitting processes are selected with the guidance of the quantitative evaluation of a state-of-the-art reconstruction algorithm. In our new direct evaluation method, the reconstructed 3D faces are first aligned to the ground truth and then the shape difference between the two 3D faces is described by signal-to-noise ratio and error maps illustrating the reconstruction errors on corresponding vertices. This local error information will be used to resample the reference frame whose vertices' coordinates stack up to be the feature vectors for face fitting. Compared with the previous works, our algorithm can reconstruct the 3D face shape at a speed comparable with that of the fastest algorithm available, but gives a higher accuracy. It can also recover the more complete and realistic looking texture. Our results show that the new algorithm possesses significant characteristics of a 3D face model reconstruction system, and is especially useful for face recognition and animation applications in practice.

Book A Deep Learning Approach to Facial 3D Reconstruction and Super Resolution Rendering

Download or read book A Deep Learning Approach to Facial 3D Reconstruction and Super Resolution Rendering written by Tomoyori Iwao and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reconstructing 3D facial shapes is of significant interest in Computer Vision and Computer Graphics. In recent years, deep learning methods have been proposed for cost-effectively acquiring accurate 3D facial shapes. To some extent, these methods can generate accurate 3D facial shapes from a single image. Most of them assume that the resolution of the input images is high enough to reconstruct facial shapes, but this is not always the case, such as in the 3D reconstruction of players in a dynamic sports scene. Due to the large distances between players, one normally cannot acquire a photo showing all the players in focus and some faces could appear blurry. To tackle this problem, we propose a new learning-based architecture that combines a Super-Resolution (SR) network with a 3D Facial Reconstruction (FR) network. First, we input a low-resolution facial photo to the SR network, which generates corresponding SR images. These are input to the FR network, which generates corresponding facial shapes. We generate multiple SR images and corresponding 3D facial shapes because the SR network is a non-deterministic algorithm whose output is not always optimal for 3D reconstruction and rendering. Hence, we choose the best pair considering the noise level of the SR images and the distribution of distances among those facial shapes in order to reconstruct a good-quality 3D facial shape despite the low resolution of the input image.

Book 3D Reconstruction from Multiple Images

Download or read book 3D Reconstruction from Multiple Images written by Theo Moons and published by Now Publishers Inc. This book was released on 2009-10-23 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The issue discusses methods to extract 3-dimensional (3D) models from plain images. In particular, the 3D information is obtained from images for which the camera parameters are unknown. The principles underlying such uncalibrated structure-from-motion methods are outlined. First, a short review of 3D acquisition technologies puts such methods in a wider context, and highlights their important advantages. Then, the actual theory behind this line of research is given. The authors have tried to keep the text maximally self-contained, therefore also avoiding to rely on an extensive knowledge of the projective concepts that usually appear in texts about self-calibration 3D methods. Rather, mathematical explanations that are more amenable to intuition are given. The explanation of the theory includes the stratification of reconstructions obtained from image pairs as well as metric reconstruction on the basis of more than 2 images combined with some additional knowledge about the cameras used. Readers who want to obtain more practical information about how to implement such uncalibrated structure-from-motion pipelines may be interested in two more Foundations and Trends issues written by the same authors. Together with this issue they can be read as a single tutorial on the subject.
