Book Reaching Algebra Readiness RAR

Download or read book Reaching Algebra Readiness RAR written by Tony G. Williams and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-10-30 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research has shown that algebra is the doorway and gateway for future success of students in many aspects, including high school graduation, attending and success in college, and professional earning power. And the most important key to students’ success in algebra is their readiness. This book is not only a program that addresses algebra readiness; it is also a fundamental reform effort, based on the National Mathematics Advisory Panel’s (NMAP’s) Final Report (spring, 2008). The book approaches mathematic skills deficiencies on an individual basis, much like an IEP addresses the individual needs of a student with disabilities. The Reaching Algebra Readiness (RAR) process consists of four components: (1) Diagnostic, assessing student’s mastery of the skills needed to take algebra; (2) Prescriptive, developing an individualized plan to address specific math deficiencies; (3) Intervention, utilizing tools and resources (parental involvement, effective teaching strategies, etc), to improve students’ mathematics skills; and (4) Drills and Effective Teachings Strategies, mathematics is a discipline and, simply, there is no way of avoiding practice and drilling in reaching algebra readiness, which can be enhanced significantly by implementing proven effective teaching strategies. The Reaching Algebra Readiness (RAR) process and the related materials presented in this book will be revolutionary in helping all students acquire the math skills needed for success in algebra and beyond. This book is a must-guide for math teachers, parents who home school, parents who are looking for solutions, and educators pursuing fundamental education reforms.

This more challenging topic may seem daunting, but with the help of Prentice Hall Mathematics, it doesn't have to be. This curriculum for homeschooling naturally follows the primary Math program, enVisionMATH. Each Course of Prentice Hall Mathematics feels like the natural next step in your child's Math education. When you use the Prentice Hall Mathematics program, you have four options: Course 1, 2 and 3, and Algebra Readiness. The final installment will round out your child's pre-Algebra knowledge, when needed, provide a smooth transition between Courses and help him or her fully grasp the subject. This book was released on 2013-07-18 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Teaching and Measuring Cognitive Readiness presents theoretical and empirical findings regarding cognitive readiness and assessments of their impact on adult learning. The term readiness is used in assessing student preparation for K-12 schools, while in the military and in industry, "readiness" denotes preparation to be effective in performing a mission or a job. Cognitive Readiness is viewed through a Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes (KSA) lens. Teaching and Measuring Cognitive Readiness deals with (a) the primacy of cognitive readiness as attributes or individual difference variables; (b) the need for cognitive readiness instructional and assessment strategies; (c) the need to integrate assessment into cognitive readiness training; (d) the need for theory-driven evaluation studies to increase knowledge and efficacy in teaching cognitive readiness; and (e) the need for a solid psychometric approach to the use of cognitive readiness assessments.

Book Tomorrow s High School

Download or read book Tomorrow s High School written by Gene Bottoms and published by ASCD. This book was released on 2022-04-11 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do some high schools produce graduates that consistently achieve at high levels? Would you believe there's a set of proven strategies that could help you deliver similar impressive results and better prepare students for the world after high school? High schools in the United States face a startling reality: many graduates are unprepared for success in postsecondary studies or for high-demand, well-paying jobs in a rapidly changing economy. Although this situation is alarming, the high schools that have embraced new ways of learning show us what is possible. Drawing from his experience with the High Schools That Work initiative, Gene Bottoms offers educators a path forward by urging them to pursue bold goals and outlining bold actions for achieving those goals. His vision is clear: replace the traditional model of secondary education with one that engages students in a rigorous curriculum that combines a solid academic core with intellectually demanding career pathway courses. The notion that nearly all students can achieve at high levels is borne out by numerous examples of high schools—including those with traditionally underperforming student populations—that have used key strategies to help all students realize their potential. Bottoms explains the root causes of the current shortcomings in high school education and then specifies critical components of successful transformation: * Shared leadership; * Powerful assignments—especially in math, literacy, and career/technical education—planned and executed by academic and career pathway teachers working together; * Strengthened connections between middle school and high school; * A redesigned senior year; and * Comprehensive counseling and advisory programs. Provocative and persuasive in its sense of urgency, Tomorrow's High School offers proven and practical solutions to finally make high schools a rich and rewarding experience for all students, whatever their future college and career goals may be. This book is a copublication of ASCD and SREB. It includes access to nine downloadable appendixes.
