Download or read book Art Nouveau Objects and Artifacts written by Anton Seder and published by Courier Dover Publications. This book was released on 2015-04-27 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A revolutionary reaction to the eclectic historical styles of nineteenth-century art, the turn-of-the-century Art Nouveau movement drew much of its inspiration from nature. Applying its sinuous, curvilinear motifs to the decorative arts, graphics, architecture, sculpture, and painting, artists and crafters attempted to create a style suitable for a "modern" age. This treasury of rare Art Nouveau decorative ornaments offers an unusual selection of the genre's most strikingly imaginative graphics. Originally published in Paris in 1899 and sold by subscription, the collection features fifty full-page plates depicting a rich profusion of everyday items rendered in the distinctive Art Nouveau style. Intricate patterns of flowers, vines, faces, and other designs decorate scores of objects made of metal, ceramic, and glass: pitchers and vases, cutlery, walking sticks, jewelry, and other objects and artifacts. A source of authentic Art Nouveau graphics, this compilation will serve as an inspiration for artists, illustrators, and designers.

Download or read book Art Nouveau Early Art Deco Type Design from the Roman Scherer Catalogue written by Roman Scherer A.G. and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The letter types and designs of the early 20th century, when Art Nouveau was moving toward the Art Deco styles, are now being recognized by graphic artists and designers for the truly unique and powerful designs they are. The floral patterns, highly personal lyricism, and gently flowing lines of Art Nouveau were taking on the Egyptian-styled, abstractly geometrical, almost overpowering characteristics which would later be identified as Art Deco. In the interim, the styles had the benefit of both--the strongly captivating Art Deco look with the lyrical, personal qualities of Art Nouveau. Among the most striking types and decorations during this period were the "caractères en bois" (wood type) of the Swiss firm of Roman Scherer at Lucerne. For this volume designer Theodore Menten has selected a wide range of borders, decorations and letter styles from the Roman Scherer catalogue. He includes borders--nearly 100 with up to four different sizes of each and enough repetitions for easy use. The borders range from floral patterns and leaf forms to highly abstract uses of circles and other geometrical shapes. There are approximately the same number of decorations including dividing lines in many different sizes ans styles, the traditional pointing hands, star shapes, a lyre, florals, abstracts and much more. The letter styles (a total of 24 with over 1,100 capital and lower-case letters) range from scripts, block forms and three-dimensional cuts to textured letters designed for two or more colors and gently rounded letters that seem almost sculpted out of wood."--Back cover.
