Book Standing Tall The Taliban Nearly Killed Me But They Couldn t Take Away My Fighting Spirit The Inspirational Story of a True British Hero

Download or read book Standing Tall The Taliban Nearly Killed Me But They Couldn t Take Away My Fighting Spirit The Inspirational Story of a True British Hero written by Andy Reid and published by Kings Road Publishing. This book was released on 2014-01-06 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WHAT DO YOU DO IF YOU'VE HAD BOTH LEGS AND AN ARM BLOWN OFF BY A TALIBAN IED? IF YOU'RE ANDY REID, YOU GET ON WITH IT...In October 2009, Corporal Andy Reid was blown up by a Taliban improvised explosive device while on patrol in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. Injured so badly that it was thought he would not survive, he defied the odds to the extent that, within a month, he was able to meet up with the members of his patrol again. What he has achieved since then is little short of unbelievable.Standing Tall tells two stories. One is of Corporal Andy Reid, an infantry-section commander with Burma Company, 3rd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment. The other tells of Andy Reid, triple-amputee skydiver, cyclist, charity fundraiser, husband and father. Together, they tell a tale of astounding courage; not just the courage to face the enemy under fire, day after day, in often appalling conditions, but also what Napoleon called 'three-o'clock-in-the-morning courage', the ability to respond to disaster and to overcome the inner demons that accompany it. Above all, this is the incredible story of a truly inspirational man.'BLOODY MINDED COURAGE, AWESOME LOVE AND A STORY THAT WILL MOVE YOU TO TEARS' - Daily Mail'HERO SOLDIER' - The Sun

Nothing in his colourful past of smuggling and smaller crimes prepared him for people appearing out of nowhere.Maria Callaway has carried more names and appearances than she can keep track of, and she is bored beyond belief. When she runs into Stephan, he seems like an amusing pastime. He is interesting, disorganized, pursued by pirates, handsome, and entertaining. A little too handsome, actually. Maybe she should leave?Neither of them can foresee the chain of events set in motion from their meeting. Adventure and danger go hand in hand during the upcoming days, and the collision resonates not only through their lives, but changes the destiny of the world as they know it.A collection of Touch of the Goddess, Wrath of the Goddess, and Return of the Goddess.

Book Crazy Love

Download or read book Crazy Love written by Leslie Morgan Steiner and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2009-03-31 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At 22, Leslie Morgan Steiner seemed to have it all: a Harvard diploma, a glamorous job at Seventeen magazine, a downtown New York City apartment. Plus a handsome, funny, street-smart boyfriend who adored her. But behind her façade of success, this golden girl hid a dark secret. She'd made a mistake shared by millions: she fell in love with the wrong person. At first Leslie and Conor seemed as perfect together as their fairy-tale wedding. Then came the fights she tried to ignore: he pushed her down the stairs of the house they bought together, poured coffee grinds over her hair as she dressed for a critical job interview, choked her during an argument, and threatened her with a gun. Several times, he came close to making good on his threat to kill her. With each attack, Leslie lost another piece of herself. Gripping and utterly compelling, Crazy Love takes you inside the violent, devastating world of abusive love. Conor said he'd been abused since he was a young boy, and love and rage danced intimately together in his psyche. Why didn't Leslie leave? She stayed because she loved him. Find out for yourself if she had fallen truly in love – or into a psychological trap. Crazy Love will draw you in -- and never let go.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If Hillary Clinton wasn’t at Dartmouth that day, I might not have died. It was a bad day ... overcast ... snowy ... cold ... dark ... Lebanon airport, New Hampshire at 5:00 pm on Thursday, December 2, 1993. Just my luck, Hillary was there ... We were on the taxiway, ready to take off ... then the tower ordered us to abort. Hillary’s jetliner had priority over our four-seater. We were told to use a different runway. Klaus and Harry frantically tried to reprogram our flight computer. Hillary took off. Minutes later, we took off ... We were too low when we turned the wrong way ... We never saw the mountain ... We were still climbing when the trees took us down. Three men died on the mountain that night. One came back. Being dead was a delight. Coming back was painful. This is my story. I’m Ed.

Book Hollywood a Challenge for the Soviet Cinema

Download or read book Hollywood a Challenge for the Soviet Cinema written by Franz, Norbert P. and published by Universitätsverlag Potsdam. This book was released on 2020 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book features four essays that illuminate the relationship between American and Soviet film cultures in the 20th century. The first essay emphasizes the structural similarities and dissimilarities of the two cultures. Both wanted to reach the masses. However, the goal in Hollywood was to entertain (and educate a little) and in Moscow to educate (and entertain a little). Some films in the Soviet Union as well as in the United States were conceived as clear competition to one another – as the second essay demonstrates – and the ideological opponent was not shown from its most advantageous side. The third essay shows how, in the 1980s, the different film cultures made it difficult for the Soviet director Andrei Konchalovsky to establish himself in the US, but nevertheless allowed him to succeed. In the 1960s, a genre became popular that tells the story of the Russian Civil War using stylistic features of the Western: The Eastern. Its rise and decline are analyzed in the fourth essay.
