Download or read book Marketing Handbook for the Design Construction Professional written by Society for Marketing Professional Services and published by BNI Publications. This book was released on 2000 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) was chartered more than 25 years ago to serve the needs of individuals who market architectural, engineering, interior design, construction, and related services that create the built environment. Through its formation and growth, SMPS created the profession of professional services marketing. Today, marketing is an integral part of almost all the services that design and build the environment in which we live, work, and play. Over the years, SMPS has helped create and identify the leaders in this profession. It is those leaders who were called upon to revise and expand the Handbook for Marketing Professional Services. The original first edition of this handbook was created to fill a gap that existed in the literature of marketing. While much has been written about product marketing, little has been written about services marketing and even less about marketing services for the built environment. When SMPS created its Certified Professional Services Marketer Program, the need for marketing again became apparent. In this new edition, many of the original authors, have updated their material and eight new chapters have been added. Many of these new chapters are reflective of how mature and complex the process of marketing professional services has become. This new edition of Marketing Handbook For The Design & Construction Professional is destined to become an indispensable resource and a well-worn volume on the bookshelves of those involved in marketing professional services for the built environment.
Download or read book The World by Design written by A. Eugene Kohn and published by RosettaBooks. This book was released on 2019-10-08 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sharing stories and inspiring lessons on leadership and design, one architect explains how he helped build one of the world’s most successful firms Founded on July 4, 1976, Kohn Pedersen Fox quickly became a darling of the press with groundbreaking buildings such as the headquarters for the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) in New York, 333 Wacker Drive in Chicago, the Procter & Gamble headquarters in Cincinnati, and the World Bank Headquarters in Washington, DC. By the early 1990s, when most firms in the U.S. were struggling to survive a major recession, KPF was busy with significant buildings in London, Germany, Canada, Japan, Korea, and Indonesia—pioneering a model of global practice that has influenced architecture, design, and creative-services firms ever since. Like any other business, though, KPF has stumbled along the way and wrestled with crises. But through it all, it has remained innovative in an ever-changing field that often favors the newest star on the horizon. Now in its fifth decade, the firm has shaped skylines and cities around the world with iconic buildings such as the World Financial Center in Shanghai, the International Commerce Centre in Hong Kong, the DZ Bank Tower in Frankfurt, the Heron Tower in London, and Hudson Yards in New York. Forthright and engaging, Kohn examines both award-winning achievements and missteps in his 50-year career in architecture. In the process, he shows how his firm, KPF, has helped change the buildings and cities where we live, work, learn, and play. “A must-read for all of those who love cities and the buildings and skylines that define them.” —Stephen M. Ross, chairman and founder of The Related Companies

Download or read book Cook s Camden written by Mark Swenarton and published by Lund Humphries Publishers Limited. This book was released on 2017 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The housing projects built in Camden in the 1960s and 1970s when Sydney Cook was borough architect are widely regarded as the most important urban housing built in the UK in the past 100 years. Cook recruited some of the brightest talent available in London at the time and the schemes, which included Alexandra Road, Branch Hill, Fleet Road, Highgate New Town and Maiden Lane, set out a model of housing that continues to command interest and admiration from architects to this day. The Camden projects represented a new type of urban housing based on a return to streets with front doors. In place of tower blocks, the Camden architects showed how the required densities could be achieved without building high, creating a new kind of urbanism that integrated with, rather than broke from, its cultural and physical context. This book examines how Cook and his team created this new kind of housing, what it comprised, and what lessons it offers for today. New colour photographs combine with original black and white photography to give a fascinating 'then and now' portrayal not just of the buildings but also of the homes within and the people who live there."--Site web de l'éidteur.
Download or read book Francis K r and Iwan Baan Momentum of Light written by and published by . This book was released on 2021-09-07 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two stars of contemporary architecture explore the unique handling of light and heat in the architecture of Burkina Faso Across the African continent, but especially in the sub-Saharan regions, the light has a particularly stark quality, which becomes most apparent in relation to older buildings. Before electricity, architecture was required to make use of the sun as a light source within a building, while also protecting its inhabitants from the heat. This resulted in vernacular architecture that features very few or small openings, which consequently render the inside of a building near pitch black, while the outside is illuminated by sunshine that bears down mercilessly. On the initiative of the lighting technology company Zumtobel Group, photographer Iwan Baan (born 1975) and architect Francis Kéré (born 1965) set out to capture how the sun's natural light cycle shapes vernacular architecture in Burkina Faso with little to no artificial light sources. They traveled to three exemplary locations: communal compounds in Gando; the main mosque of Bobo Dioulasso; and the terraced houses in Dano. Baan's pictures are accompanied by architectural sketches by Francis Kéré, who himself grew up in this light environment and whose architecture is inspired by it. The stunning photographs are printed using a special technique, to give a sense of being immersed in the very light conditions documented here.
