Download or read book A Program for Transformational Syntactic Analysis written by Stanley Roy Petrick and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The paper defines a class of transformational grammars and describes the operational characteristics of a program for the analysis of sentences with respect to an arbitrary member of this class of grammars. The program in question exists both in pure LISP form and in mixed LISP and IBM 7090 assembly language form. The latter is, of course, applicable only to the IBM 7090 computer, but the pure LISP program can be run on any computer with a LISP system. This program has been tested on the IBM 7044 and 7090 computers and the UNIVAC M-460 computer, and a special version has been provided for the MIT compatible time-sharing system. The paper contains the necessary information to enable a user to write his own transformational grammar and determine whether it assigns structural descriptions as intended. Computer program operating details and formats are included. These are illustrated by the analysis of several sentences with respect to a sample grammar. Typical operating performance is discussed, but a complete description of the analysis algorithm used by the program is not included. (Author).
Download or read book Analog Computing written by Bernd Ulmann and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2022-11-07 with total page 587 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analog computing is one of the main pillars of Unconventional Computing. Almost forgotten for decades, we now see an ever-increasing interest in electronic analog computing because it offers a path to high-performance and highly energy-efficient computing. These characteristics are of great importance in a world where vast amounts of electric energy are consumed by today’s computer systems. Analog computing can deliver efficient solutions to many computing problems, ranging from general purpose analog computation to specialised systems like analog artificial neural networks. The book “Analog Computing” has established itself over the past decade as the standard textbook on the subject and has been substantially extended in this second edition, which includes more than 300 additional bibliographical entries, and has been expanded in many areas to include much greater detail. These enhancements will confirm this book’s status as the leading work in the field. It covers the history of analog computing from the Antikythera Mechanism to recent electronic analog computers and uses a wide variety of worked examples to provide a comprehensive introduction to programming analog computers. It also describes hybrid computers, digital differential analysers, the simulation of analog computers, stochastic computers, and provides a comprehensive treatment of classic and current analog computer applications. The last chapter looks into the promising future of analog computing.

Download or read book Methodologies of Pattern Recognition written by Satosi Watanabe and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 591 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Methodologies of Pattern Recognition is a collection of papers that deals with the two approaches to pattern recognition (geometrical and structural), the Robbins-Monro procedures, and the implications of interactive graphic computers for pattern recognition methodology. Some papers describe non-supervised learning in statistical pattern recognition, parallel computation in pattern recognition, and statistical analysis as a tool to make patterns emerge from data. One paper points out the importance of cluster processing in visual perception in which proximate points of similar brightness values form clusters. At higher levels of mental activity humans are efficient in clumping complex items into clusters. Another paper suggests a recognition method which combines versatility and an efficient noise-proofness in dealing with the two main problems in the field of recognition. These difficulties are the presence of a large variety of observed signals and the presence of interference. One paper reports on a possible feature selection for pattern recognition systems employing the minimization of population entropy. Electronic engineers, physicists, physiologists, psychologists, logicians, mathematicians, and philosophers will find great rewards in reading the above collection.
Download or read book The Development of Self Regulatory Mechanisms written by Dwain N. Walcher and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-09-03 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Development of Self-Regulatory Mechanisms contains the papers presented at the conference on Early Childhood: The Development of Self-Regulatory Mechanisms, held at The Pennsylvania State University in January, 1970. The theme of the conference is divided into four areas of interest: biological regulatory mechanisms, early self-regulatory behavior, thoughtful self-regulation, and models of human self-regulation. Papers focused on subjects on neurophysiological and neuroendocrinological regulatory mechanisms; infant cognitive development based on cardiac response and attention patterns; factors affecting communication abilities; and similarity of self-regulatory features of computer programs to human regulatory mechanisms. Psychologists, neurologists, physiologists, and endocrinologist will find the book invaluable.
Download or read book The Microarchitecture of Pipelined and Superscalar Computers written by Amos R. Omondi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended to serve as a textbook for a second course in the im plementation (Le. microarchitecture) of computer architectures. The subject matter covered is the collection of techniques that are used to achieve the highest performance in single-processor machines; these techniques center the exploitation of low-level parallelism (temporal and spatial) in the processing of machine instructions. The target audience consists students in the final year of an undergraduate program or in the first year of a postgraduate program in computer science, computer engineering, or electrical engineering; professional computer designers will also also find the book useful as an introduction to the topics covered. Typically, the author has used the material presented here as the basis of a full-semester undergraduate course or a half-semester post graduate course, with the other half of the latter devoted to multiple-processor machines. The background assumed of the reader is a good first course in computer architecture and implementation - to the level in, say, Computer Organization and Design, by D. Patterson and H. Hennessy - and familiarity with digital-logic design. The book consists of eight chapters: The first chapter is an introduction to all of the main ideas that the following chapters cover in detail: the topics covered are the main forms of pipelining used in high-performance uniprocessors, a taxonomy of the space of pipelined processors, and performance issues. It is also intended that this chapter should be readable as a brief "stand-alone" survey.

Download or read book Reflections on Programming Systems written by Liesbeth De Mol and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-01-10 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a historical and philosophical analysis of programming systems, intended as large computational systems like, for instance, operating systems, programmed to control processes. The introduction to the volume emphasizes the contemporary need of providing a foundational analysis of such systems, rooted in a broader historical and philosophical discussion. The different chapters are grouped around three major themes. The first concerns the early history of large systems developed against the background of issues related to the growing semantic gap between hardware and code. The second revisits the fundamental issue of complexity of large systems, dealt with by the use of formal methods and the development of `grand designs’ like Unix. Finally, a third part considers several issues related to programming systems in the real world, including chapters on aesthetical, ethical and political issues. This book will interest researchers from a diversity of backgrounds. It will appeal to historians, philosophers, as well as logicians and computer scientists who want to engage with topics relevant to the history and philosophy of programming and more specifically the role of programming systems in the foundations of computing.
