Book excerpt: In October 1872 The Australasian newspaper carried an illustrated advertisement for W.H. Rocke & Co. in which it was announced that the company had: "just finished a most complete illustrated catalogue of their immense stock. This book has nearly 500 designs of furniture, and covers over 80 pages, together with descriptive price list." The present catalogue appears to be a revised edition of this 1872 publication, containing 371 designs over 80 pages, beginning with design number 503. It may have been produced as early as February 1874 when the Australasian carried an advertisement for Rocke stating that "illustrated catalogues" could be forwarded on application. Advertisements in 1875 refer to "pattern books and price lists on application". Publication certainly predates December 1876 when The Illustrated Australian News published an illustration of Rocke's new extended warehouse 36-42 Collins Street, Melbourne. MM February 2015.
