The law outlined the creation of three counties and thirteen districts: five districts in Baldwin County, three districts in Wayne County, and five districts in Wilkinson County. Each district was to be surveyed into lots, containing 202.5 acres each in Baldwin and Wilkinson counties and 490 acres each in Wayne County. In the end, 4580 land lots were surveyed. All square (or whole) lots, as well as all islands containing more than 100 acres, were included in the land lottery drawing. All fractions were held out and sold at public auction in 1806"--P. [i].

Book excerpt: Even before the 1805 Land Lottery drawing had begun, pressure was mounting for Georgia to gain control over the remaining land between the Oconee and Ocmulgee Rivers. Less than three months after the conclusion of the 1805 Georgia Land Lottery, the United States purchased 2.2 million acres from the Creek Indians. The 1807 Land Lottery was structured almost identically to the 1805 Land Lottery, continuing the district and land lot survey system and repeating the use of a land lottery to distribute the land. The purpose of this book is to document the record of title transfer from the state of Georgia to an individual for each land lot distributed through the land lottery process in 1807.

By 1846, when Texas became the thirty-sixth state in the Union, there were sixty-seven county governments already organized as functioning units of the state, yet no authorized census of the state was undertaken until 1850. This 1846 poll list, compiled from the original tax rolls housed in the Texas State Archives, is actually the nearest thing we have to a complete census of the period.

Environmental law has always responded to risks posed by industrial society but the new generation of risks have required a new set of environmental principles, emerging from a combination of public fears, science, ethics, and established legal practice. This book shows how three of the most important principles of modern environmental law grew out of this new age of ecological risk: the polluter pays principle, the preventive principle, and the precautionary principle. Since the first edition was published, the principles of polluter-pays, prevention, and precaution have been encapsulated in a swathe of legislation at domestic and international level. Courts have been invoking environmental law principles in a broad range of cases, on issues including GMOs, conservation, investment, waste, and climate change. The work as a whole is cumulative, with only slight, albeit significant, differences in the kinds of information which may be found in one volume versus another. This volume (Volume II) contains records of officers and soldiers not only from Georgia but from other states, many of whose descendants later came to Georgia because of liberal land grants. The Appendix contains miscellaneous records and documents of the families of some Revolutionary soldiers and officers. Clearfield Company also publishes Volumes I and III. Volume I coontains the records of hundreds of Revolutionary War soldiers and officers of Georgia, with genealogies of their families, and lists of soldiers buried in Georgia whose graves have been located. Volume III, the longest of the work, is similar in scope to this volume except that the majority of the entries are for Georgia officers and soldiers, with only some material relating to other states. The three volumes, each of which is indexed, refer to as many as 20,000 persons overall.
