Book Discovering Barcelona a Travel Guide for Teens

Download or read book Discovering Barcelona a Travel Guide for Teens written by Enric Masso and published by Enric Masso. This book was released on 2013-08-12 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ultimate travel guide to discovering Barcelona with your kids. A perfect book for teenagers for your next leisure vacation or city break, or simply... an escapade. "Discovering Barcelona, a travel guide for teens" does not aim to be a typical tourist guide covering only monuments, museums and other very interesting but often boring facts about the place you're visiting. Instead, this is a 'guide for teens' to attractions and activities that I am sure you'll enjoy more while in Barcelona. Let's show adults that they can also see many of those things while you're having fun along the way. Ready for an adventure? You've come to the right place! There's a lot to see and do in Barcelona. This guide will help you to get the most out of your experience. To make the most out of your trip, before you leave, read the section "A bit of background and some fun facts" where you'll get a glimpse of Barcelona's main facts, history and culture. Maps, there're plenty of those. You should familiarise yourself with the location of the main places so you can better assist your parents when they get lost... and they eventually will, trust me! Then, I present you over 60 ideas for activities and attractions to have fun while you're in Barcelona. Each one has detailed description, directions and advice on how to get the most out of it. Also, to make things easy, I have proposed some routes that you can follow. This will save you some planning time and you will be able to focus on enjoying the trip. Very important: I have also included sections to tell you the best places to eat, shop, play... don't miss it! Now for the fun part: the "Discovery Hunt," a challenging adventure through the Gothic Quarter of the city where you will have to unravel clues in each step of the hunt that will ultimately reveal to you a secret place. But if you get stuck, don't worry, you have the solutions at the end of the guide. No peeping! Other sections that will help you are the "Useful tips" and the things I think it's good to know about Barcelona, like customs, schedules, weather, etc. I know you are on vacation, but take the opportunity to practice some foreign language. Check some short sentences in Catalan -the local language- which I've prepared for you so you can communicate with the locals. And I am also sharing the 20 things I like to do in Barcelona. Hope you like them. Don't forget to visit the guide's website at www.discoveringbarcelona.info and follow its video channel at www.vimeo.com/channels/discoveringbarcelona.

Book Forgotten Places

  • Release : 2015-12-02
  • ISBN : 9781519531117
  • Pages : 0 pages

Download or read book Forgotten Places written by Nick Lloyd and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2015-12-02 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a guide to Barcelona in the Spanish Civil War, beginning in the 19th century with the conditions and movements which led to the social revolution of 1936, and ending with the fall of the city on 26 January 1939 when Franco's tanks drove down the Diagonal and set about destroying everything the Republic and the revolutionaries had built. Stories from the aftermath of the war, the exile and the Franco regime are also included. In addition with dealing with the more obvious issues such as anarchism, the Spanish Republic, Catalonia, George Orwell, the aerial bombing, and the May Days, etc, the book also looks at themes such as the People's Olympiad, the American Sixth Fleet in the city, Barça, urbanism, Nazis in Barcelona, Robert Capa, the Spanish in the Holocaust, poster art... Intertwined in the text are contemporary quotes and a few personal accounts of people who experienced the war or its aftermath. There are also biographies of figures such as Salvador Seguí, Ramón Mercader, Andreu Nin, Francesc Boix and Lluís Companys. The book is divided into two main sections: a history of the war from the perspective of Barcelona, followed by a guide to related sites which have often been included as an excuse to tell stories or illustrate wider issues. The book ends with an extensive glossary.Nick Lloyd has been running Spanish Civil War tours in Barcelona since 2009.REVIEWS: The Volunteer: Abraham Lincoln Brigade Archives (ALBA)"This is a wonderful hybrid of a book. The text tells much about Barcelona and the Spanish Civil War and much else mostly about the radical history of the city. But its other purpose is to be a companion while one is in Barcelona itself to provide information and illumination about the city's terrible, dramatic, and heroic Civil War history." Military History Book Review"Nick Lloyd has produced a brilliant account of a fascinating city and an even more fascinating period of political and social upheaval"
