Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These 10 Macedonian folk songs arranged for piano are an excellent introduction to the enchanting sounds and complex rhythms of Macedonia. For centuries, Macedonians have played these songs and others on traditional instruments, such as the kaval or gajda. Only in the late 20th century did the world begin to uncover the hidden gem of Macedonian folk music. Many arrangements and variations of Macedonian folk songs have been performed throughout the Balkans and Europe, but piano arrangements are scarce. With these 10 piano scores, I hope to expose piano students of all abilities to the beautiful melodies of Macedonia while allowing them to grow their skills and love for the piano. Hopefully, the traditional music from the heart of the Balkans will fill your heart with joy and happiness as it has already done for Macedonians around the world. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Library Of Modern Piano Music strives to illustrate the vigour and variety of modern piano music. These original compositions span standalone pieces, albums, suites and arrangements from talents as diverse as Igor Stravinsky, Francis Poulenc, Lennox Berkeley, Witold Lutosławski , Hans Werner Henze, Peter Maxwell Davies, Philip Glass and Ludovico Einaudi. As well as these concert pieces, a number of works have been written specially for screen. From Michael Nyman’s celebrated music for ‘The Piano’ to Richard Rodney Bennett’s score for the now rarely seen but superb 1980s miniseries of ‘Tender Is The Night’, there is ample proof of the richness added to international screen dramas by first-rate composers. These and over 100 more piano pieces make The Library Of Modern Piano Music a true classic.
Download or read book 50 Forgotten Macedonian Folk Songs written by Victor Sinadinoski and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2021-03-16 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A collection of 50 old Macedonian folk songs with newly composed melodies. The songs' lyrics primarily come from Dimitar and Konstantin Miladinov, two brothers who traveled Macedonia in the mid-19th century to collect and jot down these songs. However, the brothers did not notate the melodies that accompany these lyrics. Sinadinoski created new melodies in the Macedonian folk style and spirit to ensure the lyrics' survival in the collective folk memory of the Macedonian people, and they are a wonderful and enjoyable addition to any folk enthusiast's repertoire. The collection contains melodies in the treble clef, chords, Macedonian lyrics, and English translations.
Download or read book Composing Women written by Elfriede Reissig and published by Hollitzer Wissenschaftsverlag. This book was released on 2022-12-02 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents fifteen musicological perspectives on the creativity of women composers and the question of 'femininity' in Southeastern-European musical cultures from 1918 on. In the questions about and beyond a 'female aesthetics', socio-cultural approaches to the lives of creative women prove to be indispensable for contemporary musicological gender research, because highly complex facts of musical life and social realities in political systems cannot be separated from each other. By this means the exclusion and marginalization of women composers in the national and international music establishment, as well as strategies for overcoming these systems, are made visible and brought to consciousness. This volume therefore focusses on the social, cultural, and biological preconditions of cultural action, and intends to arouse curiosity for multi-layered realities; it aims to increase the reception of the compositional oeuvre of women composers from Southeastern Europe by the global music scene, the musicological discourse, and an engaged audience.

Download or read book Critical Music Historiography Probing Canons Ideologies and Institutions written by Vesa Kurkela and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-09 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past two decades, there has emerged a growing need to reconsider the objects, axioms and perspectives of writing music history. A certain suspicion towards Francois Lyotard’s grand narratives, as a sign of what he diagnosed as our ’postmodern condition’, has become more or less an established and unquestioned point of departure among historians. This suspicion, at its most extreme, has led to a radical conclusion of the ’end of history’ in the work of postmodern scholars such as Jean Baudrillard and Francis Fukuyama. The contributors to Critical Music Historiography take a step back and argue that the radical view of the ’impossibility of history’, as well as the unavoidable ideology of any history, are counter-productive points of departure for historical scholarship. It is argued that metanarratives in history are still possible and welcome, even if their limitations are acknowledged. Foucault, Lyotard and others should be taken into account but systematized viewpoints and methods for a more critical and multi-faceted re-evaluation of the past through research are needed. As to the metanarratives of music history, they must avoid the pitfalls of evolutionism, hagiography, and teleology, all hallmarks of traditional historiography. In this volume the contributors put these methods and principles into practice. The chapters tackle under-researched and non-conventional domains of music history as well as rethinking older historiographical concepts such as orientalism and nationalism, and consequently introduce new concepts such as occidentalism and transnationalism. The volume is a challenging collection of work that stakes out a unique territory for itself among the growing body of work on critical music history.
