Book Zoology Animal Distribution Evolution And Development Biology

Download or read book Zoology Animal Distribution Evolution And Development Biology written by Dr. Kamble Kalyani Jaysing and published by AG Publishing House. This book was released on with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since ecological systems are so intricately designed, it is not unexpected that many ecological ideas and concepts have not yet been defined exactly. The scientific method as applied to the study of nature is where ecology gets its start. Ecology is a typically bottom up discipline, meaning that it applies the scientific method to actual facts and processes in order to gradually build a body of knowledge which may give the foundation for useful generalizations. This is in contrast to a discipline who's experimental practice is guided by laws as well as invincible paradigms. However, the necessity to account for all conceivable differences clashes with the generalizability of ecological processes. In this context, the precision of findings obtained via the analysis of real situations becomes crucial. In particular, we need to apply a more scientifically rigorous technique to the study of animal ecology. Animal populations are dynamic in space, subject to significant environmental variation, characterized by a robust stochastic demographic component, engaged in intricate interspecific & intraspecific interactions as well as relationships with abiotic environment. That's why it's taken longer to apply scientific methods & rigorous designs for experiments to them than it has to other scientific pursuits. Nonetheless, there is no clear reason to research animal populations without more discipline.

Book Zoology Animal Distribution Evolution And Development

Download or read book Zoology Animal Distribution Evolution And Development written by Dr. Konkala Anand and published by AG PUBLISHING HOUSE (AGPH Books). This book was released on 2022-10-14 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Zoology is a subfield of biology that focuses on the study of different species within the animal kingdom as well as animal life in general. Both the study of individual animals and their component components, down to the molecular level, as well as the study of animal populations, whole faunas, and the interactions of animals with one another, plants, and the nonliving environment, are included in this field of study. The conceptual integration that has taken place in the contemporary study of living things over the past few years has placed more of an emphasis on the structural and functional unity of life rather than on the diversity of life. Although this wide range of studies does result in some specialities within zoology being isolated from one another. The term "fauna" refers to all of the many kinds of animal species that inhabit a certain area at a particular period. Flora is the word used to refer to plant life, whereas funga is the word used to refer to fungal life. The term "biota" refers to all kinds of life, including flora, fauna, funga, and any other forms of life. The term "fauna" is used by zoologists and palaeontologists to refer to the usual collection of creatures that may be found in a certain period or location. For example, "Sonoran Desert fauna" or "Burgess Shale fauna" are both examples of this term. Palaeontologists will often speak of a succession of faunal stages, which is a series of rocks that all contain the same kinds of fossils at the same period. The field of study known as faunistic examines creatures native to a given area. The distribution of animals on earth may be broken down into three categories: land, water, and time. The first two categories are dispersed in space, while the third category is distributed in time. Many things regarding the animals, their distribution and so many other things are discussed in detail across the many chapters and topics that are included in this book. The author of this book decided to include the material that is presently contained inside it after doing a significant amount of research on the topic. All of the content that is included in this book was supplied by the authors of the book after they had a substantial amount of discussion on the topics presented. The reader will be able to get a deeper comprehension of each of the chapters thanks to the wealth of information that is provided in this book.

Book Zoology Animal Distribution Biological And Development

Download or read book Zoology Animal Distribution Biological And Development written by Dr. Hiren Madhukar Dekate and published by AG PUBLISHING HOUSE (AGPH Books). This book was released on 2022-11-08 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Zoology: Animal Distribution, Biologicals and Development are the study of animals and the animal world that is a subset of biology. Animal biology is another name for this field. Zoology is the study of animals and their habitats. This covers things like how animals are categorised, how they behave, how they are built, how they develop, where they live, how they evolved, and even which ones have since been extinct. The study of animals or zoology is a subfield of biology. It's the branch of science that deals with animals as a whole. Animal physiology, animal behaviour, and animal interactions with other species are all part of zoology's scope of the study. This massive course covers the global distribution of every known animal species, both living and extinct. The discipline of zoology delves into uncharted territories of study in addition to the study of animals and their ecosystems. In this book, we learn Aristotle’s system of categorization was used until the Age of Enlightenment in the 16th century when scientists started conducting serious investigations. The field of zoology has grown more intricate, with organisms now classified into five iv "kingdoms," with the animal kingdom subdivided into the Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, and Species.

Book Human Evolution and Development

Download or read book Human Evolution and Development written by Nico van Straalen and published by Amsterdam University Press. This book was released on 2021-01-23 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our understanding of human evolution is proceeding at an unprecedented rate over the last years due to spectacular fossil finds, reconstructions based on genome comparison, ancient DNA sequencing and new insights into developmental genetics. This book takes an integrative approach in which the development of the human embryo, the evolutionary history of our body, the structure of human populations, their dispersal over the world and their cultures are examined by integrating paleoanthropology, developmental biology, comparative zoology, population genetics and phylogenetic reconstruction. The authors discuss questions like: - What do we know about ancient humans? - What happens in the development of an embryo? - How did we manage to walk upright and why did we lose our hair? - What is the relationship between language, migration and evolution? - How does our body respond to the challenges of modern society? In addition to being a core text for the study of the life sciences, Human Evolution and Development is an easy-to-read overview for the interested layperson.

Book Treatise on Zoology Anatomy Taxonomy Biology The Myriapoda Volume 2

Download or read book Treatise on Zoology Anatomy Taxonomy Biology The Myriapoda Volume 2 written by Alessandro Minelli and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2015-09-29 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Myriapods are the only major zoological group for which a modern encyclopedic treatment has never been produced. In particular, this was the single major gap in the largest zoological treatise of the XIX century (Grassé’s Traité de Zoologie), whose publication has recently been stopped. The two volumes of “The Myriapoda” fill that gap with an updated treatment in the English language. Volume II deals with the Diplopoda or millipedes. As in the previous volume, the treatment is articulated in chapters dealing with external and internal morphology, physiology, reproduction, development, distribution, ecology, phylogeny and taxonomy. All currently recognized suprageneric taxa and a very large selection of the genera are considered. All groups and features are extensively illustrated by line drawings and micrographs and living specimens of representative species of the main groups are presented in color photographs.

Download or read book Animal Evolution written by NATURAL SCIENCES and MATHEMATICS (500) and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2009-08-13 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Animal life, now and over the past half billion years, is incredibly diverse. Describing and understanding the evolution of this diversity of body plans - from vertebrates such as humans and fish to the numerous invertebrate groups including sponges, insects, molluscs, and the many groups of worms - is a major goal of evolutionary biology. In this book, a group of leading researchers adopt a modern, integrated approach to describe how current molecular genetic techniques and disciplines as diverse as palaeontology, embryology, and genomics have been combined, resulting in a dramatic renaissance in the study of animal evolution. The last decade has seen growing interest in evolutionary biology fuelled by a wealth of data from molecular biology. Modern phylogenies integrating evidence from molecules, embryological data, and morphology of living and fossil taxa provide a wide consensus of the major branching patterns of the tree of life; moreover, the links between phenotype and genotype are increasingly well understood. This has resulted in a reliable tree of relationships that has been widely accepted and has spawned numerous new and exciting questions that require a reassessment of the origins and radiation of animal life. The focus of this volume is at the level of major animal groups, the morphological innovations that define them, and the mechanisms of change to their embryology that have resulted in their evolution. Current research themes and future prospects are highlighted including phylogeny reconstruction, comparative developmental biology, the value of different sources of data and the importance of fossils, homology assessment, character evolution, phylogeny of major groups of animals, and genome evolution. These topics are integrated in the light of a 'new animal phylogeny', to provide fresh insights into the patterns and processes of animal evolution. Animal Evolution provides a timely and comprehensive statement of progress in the field for academic researchers requiring an authoritative, balanced and up-to-date overview of the topic. It is also intended for both upper level undergraduate and graduate students taking courses in animal evolution, molecular phylogenetics, evo-devo, comparative genomics and associated disciplines.

Book Evolutionary Developmental Biology of Invertebrates 1

Download or read book Evolutionary Developmental Biology of Invertebrates 1 written by Andreas Wanninger and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-08-10 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This multi-author, six-volume work summarizes our current knowledge on the developmental biology of all major invertebrate animal phyla. The main aspects of cleavage, embryogenesis, organogenesis and gene expression are discussed in an evolutionary framework. Each chapter presents an in-depth yet concise overview of both classical and recent literature, supplemented by numerous color illustrations and micrographs of a given animal group. The largely taxon-based chapters are supplemented by essays on topical aspects relevant to modern-day EvoDevo research such as regeneration, embryos in the fossil record, homology in the age of genomics and the role of EvoDevo in the context of reconstructing evolutionary and phylogenetic scenarios. A list of open questions at the end of each chapter may serve as a source of inspiration for the next generation of EvoDevo scientists. Evolutionary Developmental Biology of Invertebrates is a must-have for any scientist, teacher or student interested in developmental and evolutionary biology as well as in general invertebrate zoology. This volume starts off with three chapters that set the stage for the entire work by covering general aspects of EvoDevo research, including its relevance for animal phylogeny, homology issues in the age of developmental genomics, and embryological data in the fossil record. These are followed by taxon-based chapters on the animals that are commonly considered to have branched off the Animal Tree of Life before the evolution of the Bilateria: the Porifera, Placozoa, Cnidaria (with the Myxozoa being treated separately) and Ctenophora. In addition, the Acoelomorpha, Xenoturbellida and Chaetognatha are examined, including their currently hotly debated phylogenetic affinities.
