Book number 1 in the series of ZONES – “Killer Government”, is the first published book of Jampo Ahonen that he has written in English. The book is entirely the work of the young author, even down the design of the cover. Recently published, this first edition was written in 2011 when only 13-years old. The ZONES series – the first book “The Killer Government” – tells about a young man ad-venturing and surviving in the post-apocalyptic world on US soil. The world has suffered catastrophic consequences after a doomsday-like disease has sud-denly spread, turning all af-fected people into Zombie-like humans, hunting down any survivors. Very few people have survived in the biggest cities, all humanity has been destroyed, the Zombies are prevalent all around the World, but for some reason, some of the people called Sweepers, possibly government units, are still hunting the people remaining alive. As becoming a leader, action-oriented man, young Reeds starts to act and combat… This is the most interesting storytelling, by an exceptional and linguistically talented young Author, on the threshold of a great career. Author Jampo Ahonen Jampo Ahonen is a highly ta-lented 16 years old young man in 2014. He has written 10 books so far and is writing with passion his 11th book in English. Jampo wrote his first book, the series of PIRATES (7 in total), at the early age of 10 years old. Published in Finnish, the PIRATES series are being translated into English and will be published soon. His first five books he wrote in Finnish, and next two in English, because English had become for him the most natural language in which to express himself. Jampo has now decided to write a book in German as well in the near future. Once the book is finished, he will have written books in three different languages, despite of his young age. Jampo Ahonen demonstrates a talent for language skills. He has knowledge of 9 different languages. Despite Finnish be-ing his national language, he is fluent in English and German. He has a working knowledge of French and Spanish. He also understands and communicates in Portuguese and Italian on the internet with his friends around the world. He also knows some Latin, and currently the biggest interest to him is learning Japanese more thoroughly. In addition to the passion of languages and writing, Jampo likes sports, gaming, cars, guns, travelling the world, science, nature, history and the future. He has been living in France, Spain and Finland, and been visiting numerous other countries. Jampo’s dream is to move to US, get his education there and live in the US in the future. To make his dreams come true, he has decided to save money for his future prospects, and most of his books’ income goes into funds provided by the Family Business of publishing.

Book excerpt: America has become increasingly divided and polarized in recent years. With growing racial tension, animosity toward law enforcement professionals, government corruption, and disregard for the constitutional process, there seems to be no easy answer in sight. But Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke knows where we must begin: we must stop blaming others; look at our problems with open eyes; take ownership of our family, community, and country; and turn to God for solutions. Deeply rooted in Sheriff Clarke's personal life story, this book is not a dry recitation of what has gone wrong in America with regard to race. It's about the issues that deeply affect us today-both personally and politically-and how we can rise above our current troubles to once again be a truly great people in pursuit of liberty and justice for all.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. The process of protected area creation for cetaceans has been accelerated and more than 200 exciting new places are detailed in this edition. This book provides a route map for MPA managers, as well as countries, to meet the ambitious targets for highly protected MPA networks by 2012 and 2020. This book is a key conservation tool and a springboard for worldwide change in human attitudes toward the world ocean where all life originated and where the majority of life on Earth still lives.

Book The Fabric of Peace in Africa

Download or read book The Fabric of Peace in Africa written by Pamela Aall and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 2017-06-05 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Africa has experienced dozens of conflicts over a variety of issues during the past two decades. Responding to these conflicts requires concerted action to manage the crises – the violence, the political discord, and the humanitarian consequences of prolonged fighting. It is also necessary to address the long-term social and economic impacts of conflict, to rebuild communities, societies and states that have been torn apart. To accomplish this requires the involvement of institutions and groups rarely considered in formal official African conflict management activities: schools, universities, religious institutions, media, commercial enterprises, legal institutions, civil society groups, youth, women and migrants. These groups and organizations have an important role to play in building a sense of identity, fairness, shared norms and cohesion between state and society – all critical components of the fabric of peace and security in Africa. This volume brings together leading experts from Africa, Europe and North America to examine these critical social institutions and groups, and consider how they can either improve or impede peaceful conflict resolution. The overarching questions that are explored by the authors are: What constitutes social cohesion and resilience in the face of conflict? What are the threats to cohesion and resilience? And how can the positive elements be fostered and by whom? The second of two volumes on African conflict management capacity by the editors, The Fabric of Peace in Africa: Looking beyond the State opens new doors of understanding for students, scholars and practitioners focused on strengthening peace in Africa; the first volume, Minding the Gap: African Conflict Management in a Time of change, focused on the role of mediation and peacekeeping in managing violence and political crises.

Book The Districts

Download or read book The Districts written by Johnny Dwyer and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2020-09-08 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Johnny Dwyer examines the New York crimes we’ve seen in the news, in movies, and on television—drug trafficking, organized crime, terrorism, corruption, and white-collar crime—while weaving in the nuances that rarely make it into headlines. “Told in the kind of pointillist detail that can only come from years of hanging around the courthouse and doing old-school shoe-leather reporting.” —Patrick Radden Keefe, author of Say Nothing The Rosenbergs, Rudy Giuliani, Bernie Madoff, James Comey, John Gotti, Preet Bharara, and El Chapo are just a few of the figures to have appeared before the courts in the Southern and Eastern District of New York—the two federal courts tasked with maintaining order in New York City. These two epicenters of power in our justice system have become proving grounds for ambitious prosecutors who turn their service in government into power, position, and, in some cases, celebrity. These attorneys don’t hope for victory in court; they expect it. In The Districts, Johnny Dwyer takes us not just into the courtrooms but also into the lives of the judges and defendants, prosecutors and defense counsels, and winners and losers who people the courts. An unprecedented look at New York City’s federal court system that exposes the incentives driving how America chooses to punish crime—and what those choices reveal about our politics and our society—The Districts paints a revelatory picture of how our justice system, and the pursuit of justice, really works.

Book In the War Zone of the Heart

Download or read book In the War Zone of the Heart written by John Lantigua and published by Arte Publico Press. This book was released on 2022-09-30 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the title story of this collection, detective Willie Cuesta is on a stakeout in a singles bar, tracking an errant husband, when he gets a call about a potential case. The next day, he meets Isabel Guevara, who is originally from Nicaragua. Her twin sons fought on opposite sides of that country’s civil war; one in the army, the other with the contra rebels. They both survived, but their feud didn’t end with the conflict. And now, word has it that the one who remained behind is on his way to Miami to kill his brother! Willie has no idea how he will prevent a bloody confrontation, but he agrees to try. This collection of twelve stories featuring private investigator Willie Cuesta illuminates the histories and issues of the numerous Latin American communities that call Miami home—and how the past continues to haunt them. There’s a family concerned that their mother’s new fiance isn’t the former Cuban political prisoner and hero he claims to be; a heavily tattooed Salvadoran gang member in hiding from the vicious former colleagues hunting him; a beautiful Haitian woman being stalked by a killer who uses voodoo to stoke her nightmares; and a wealthy American who made his fortune in Guatemala on the backs of its people and is now receiving death threats from his victims! The impact of civil war, revolution, corruption and criminal violence crash ashore in these stories set in South Florida. Whether Willie is doing surveillance in salsa clubs, interviewing clients over cafecitos in Little Havana or on a fishing boat in the Gulf, his attempts to find justice for clients are always enlightening and exciting. An Edgar Award finalist and Shamus Award nominee, John Lantigua served as a foreign correspondent in Latin America, and his investigator, a former Miami Police Department detective, appears in a series of stand-alone novels.

Book A Better Way to Zone

Download or read book A Better Way to Zone written by Donald L. Elliott and published by Island Press. This book was released on 2012-09-26 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nearly all large American cities rely on zoning to regulate land use. According to Donald L. Elliott, however, zoning often discourages the very development that bigger cities need and want. In fact, Elliott thinks that zoning has become so complex that it is often dysfunctional and in desperate need of an overhaul. A Better Way to Zone explains precisely what has gone wrong and how it can be fixed. A Better Way to Zone explores the constitutional and legal framework of zoning, its evolution over the course of the twentieth century, the reasons behind major reform efforts of the past, and the adverse impacts of most current city zoning systems. To unravel what has gone wrong, Elliott identifies several assumptions behind early zoning that no longer hold true, four new land use drivers that have emerged since zoning began, and basic elements of good urban governance that are violated by prevailing forms of zoning. With insight and clarity, Elliott then identifies ten sound principles for change that would avoid these mistakes, produce more livable cities, and make zoning simpler to understand and use. He also proposes five practical steps to get started on the road to zoning reform. While recent discussion of zoning has focused on how cities should look, A Better Way to Zone does not follow that trend. Although New Urbanist tools, form-based zoning, and the SmartCode are making headlines both within and outside the planning profession, Elliott believes that each has limitations as a general approach to big city zoning. While all three trends include innovations that the profession badly needs, they are sometimes misapplied to situations where they do not work well. In contrast, A Better Way to Zone provides a vision of the future of zoning that is not tied to a particular picture of how cities should look, but is instead based on how cities should operate.

Book Critical Perspectives on Counter terrorism

Download or read book Critical Perspectives on Counter terrorism written by Lee Jarvis and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-12-17 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume examines the rationale, effectiveness and consequences of counter terrorism practices from a range of perspectives and cases. The book critically interrogates contemporary counter-terrorism powers from military campaigns and repression through to the prosecution of terrorist suspects, counter-terrorism policing, counter-radicalisation programmes, and the proscription of terrorist organisations. Drawing on a range of timely and important case studies from around the world including the UK, Sri Lanka, Spain, Canada, Australia and the USA, its chapters explore the impacts of counter-terrorism on individuals, communities, and political processes. The book focuses on three questions of vital importance to any assessment of counter-terrorism. First, what do counter-terrorism strategies seek to achieve? Second, what are the consequences of different counter-terrorism campaigns, and how are these measured? And, third, how and why do changes to counter-terrorism occur? This volume will be of much interest to students of counter-terrorism, critical terrorism studies, criminology, security studies and IR in general.
