Book Bilinear Forms and Zonal Polynomials

Download or read book Bilinear Forms and Zonal Polynomials written by Arak M. Mathai and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book deals with bilinear forms in real random vectors and their generalizations as well as zonal polynomials and their applications in handling generalized quadratic and bilinear forms. The book is mostly self-contained. It starts from basic principles and brings the readers to the current research level in these areas. It is developed with detailed proofs and illustrative examples for easy readability and self-study. Several exercises are proposed at the end of the chapters. The complicated topic of zonal polynomials is explained in detail in this book. The book concentrates on the theoretical developments in all the topics covered. Some applications are pointed out but no detailed application to any particular field is attempted. This book can be used as a textbook for a one-semester graduate course on quadratic and bilinear forms and/or on zonal polynomials. It is hoped that this book will be a valuable reference source for graduate students and research workers in the areas of mathematical statistics, quadratic and bilinear forms and their generalizations, zonal polynomials, invariant polynomials and related topics, and will benefit statisticians, mathematicians and other theoretical and applied scientists who use any of the above topics in their areas. Chapter 1 gives the preliminaries needed in later chapters, including some Jacobians of matrix transformations. Chapter 2 is devoted to bilinear forms in Gaussian real ran dom vectors, their properties, and techniques specially developed to deal with bilinear forms where the standard methods for handling quadratic forms become complicated.

Book Matrix Variate Distributions

Download or read book Matrix Variate Distributions written by A K Gupta and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-05-02 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Useful in physics, economics, psychology, and other fields, random matrices play an important role in the study of multivariate statistical methods. Until now, however, most of the material on random matrices could only be found scattered in various statistical journals. Matrix Variate Distributions gathers and systematically presents most of the recent developments in continuous matrix variate distribution theory and includes new results. After a review of the essential background material, the authors investigate the range of matrix variate distributions, including: matrix variate normal distribution Wishart distribution Matrix variate t-distribution Matrix variate beta distribution F-distribution Matrix variate Dirichlet distribution Matrix quadratic forms With its inclusion of new results, Matrix Variate Distributions promises to stimulate further research and help advance the field of multivariate statistical analysis.

Book Symmetric Functions and Orthogonal Polynomials

Download or read book Symmetric Functions and Orthogonal Polynomials written by Ian Grant Macdonald and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1998 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most classical areas of algebra, the theory of symmetric functions and orthogonal polynomials, has long been known to be connected to combinatorics, representation theory and other branches of mathematics. Written by perhaps the most famous author on the topic, this volume explains some of the current developments regarding these connections. It is based on lectures presented by the author at Rutgers University. Specifically, he gives recent results on orthogonal polynomials associated with affine Hecke algebras, surveying the proofs of certain famous combinatorial conjectures.

Book Representation of Lie Groups and Special Functions

Download or read book Representation of Lie Groups and Special Functions written by N.Ja. Vilenkin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1991-1993 our three-volume book "Representation of Lie Groups and Spe cial Functions" was published. When we started to write that book (in 1983), editors of "Kluwer Academic Publishers" expressed their wish for the book to be of encyclopaedic type on the subject. Interrelations between representations of Lie groups and special functions are very wide. This width can be explained by existence of different types of Lie groups and by richness of the theory of their rep resentations. This is why the book, mentioned above, spread to three big volumes. Influence of representations of Lie groups and Lie algebras upon the theory of special functions is lasting. This theory is developing further and methods of the representation theory are of great importance in this development. When the book "Representation of Lie Groups and Special Functions" ,vol. 1-3, was under preparation, new directions of the theory of special functions, connected with group representations, appeared. New important results were discovered in the traditional directions. This impelled us to write a continuation of our three-volume book on relationship between representations and special functions. The result of our further work is the present book. The three-volume book, published before, was devoted mainly to studying classical special functions and orthogonal polynomials by means of matrix elements, Clebsch-Gordan and Racah coefficients of group representations and to generaliza tions of classical special functions that were dictated by matrix elements of repre sentations.

Book Representation of Lie Groups and Special Functions

This book was released on 1992-09-30 with total page 670 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the last of three major volumes which present a comprehensive treatment of the theory of the main classes of special functions from the point of view of the theory of group representations. This volume deals with q-analogs of special functions, quantum groups and algebras (including Hopf algebras), and (representations of) semi-simple Lie groups. Also treated are special functions of a matrix argument, representations in the Gel'fand-Tsetlin basis, and, finally, modular forms, theta-functions and affine Lie algebras. The volume builds upon results of the previous two volumes, and presents many new results. Subscribers to the complete set of three volumes will be entitled to a discount of 15%.

Book Pioneering Works on Distribution Theory

Download or read book Pioneering Works on Distribution Theory written by Nobuaki Hoshino and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-04 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights the forefront of research on statistical distribution theory, with a focus on unconventional random quantities, and on phenomena such as random partitioning. The respective papers reflect the continuing appeal of distribution theory and the lively interest in this classic field, which owes much of its expansion since the 1960s to Professor Masaaki Sibuya, to whom this book is dedicated. The topics addressed include a test procedure for discriminating the (multivariate) Ewens distribution from the Pitman Sampling Formula, approximation to the length of the Ewens distribution by discrete distributions and the normal distribution, and the distribution of the number of levels in [s]-specified random permutations. Also included are distributions associated with orthogonal polynomials with a symmetric matrix argument and the characterization of the Jeffreys prior.

Book Aspects of Multivariate Statistical Theory

Download or read book Aspects of Multivariate Statistical Theory written by Robb J. Muirhead and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-09-25 with total page 706 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Wiley-Interscience Paperback Series consists of selected books that have been made more accessible to consumers in an effort to increase global appeal and general circulation. With these new unabridged softcover volumes, Wiley hopes to extend the lives of these works by making them available to future generations of statisticians, mathematicians, and scientists. ". . . the wealth of material on statistics concerning the multivariate normal distribution is quite exceptional. As such it is a very useful source of information for the general statistician and a must for anyone wanting to penetrate deeper into the multivariate field." -Mededelingen van het Wiskundig Genootschap "This book is a comprehensive and clearly written text on multivariate analysis from a theoretical point of view." -The Statistician Aspects of Multivariate Statistical Theory presents a classical mathematical treatment of the techniques, distributions, and inferences based on multivariate normal distribution. Noncentral distribution theory, decision theoretic estimation of the parameters of a multivariate normal distribution, and the uses of spherical and elliptical distributions in multivariate analysis are introduced. Advances in multivariate analysis are discussed, including decision theory and robustness. The book also includes tables of percentage points of many of the standard likelihood statistics used in multivariate statistical procedures. This definitive resource provides in-depth discussion of the multivariate field and serves admirably as both a textbook and reference.
