Download or read book Invitations to Abundance written by Alicia J Akins and published by Harvest House Publishers. This book was released on 2022-03-01 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What do the feasts of the Bible reveal about our place in today’s tired world? In short, everything. From Genesis through Revelation, redemptive history is captured through feasts. Through them, God calls his people to commemorate mercy, delight in grace, and commune with him and with each other. In the process, he proves he doesn’t ration his rich, soul-satisfying love toward us but instead lets it overflow. Invitations to Abundance brings to life the festivities described in the Bible and illuminates how relevant they remain in a modern world defined by isolation and disillusionment. When your heart needs encouragement, these wondrous celebrations remind you why, where, and how you can find security, unity, and hope. Each chapter seats us at a unique feast from Scripture—from the well known to the less familiar—and considers how you can respond worshipfully as a partaker of these celebrations. Invitations to Abundance shows you how to reciprocate God’s initiating kindness and what it means to live knowing God’s table is spread before you.
Download or read book God s Grand Plan of the Ages written by Chicago Bible Students and published by Chicago Bible Students. This book was released on 2016-02-03 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "God's Grand Plan of the Ages" captures the highlights of the more comprehensive book The Divine Plan of the Ages. Though brief in nature, this 96-page booklet shares a satisfying explanation of age-old questions: Why does a God of love permit the evil we see in the world? Why are there tsunamis and earthquakes that kill thousands—and wars that kill millions? Why must we experience pain, heartache and finally death? When will God's Kingdom come and His will be "done on earth as it is in heaven?" "God's Grand Plan of the Ages" also covers the signs of the "Time of the End" prophecied in the book of Daniel (Daniel 12:1-4). Daniel's predicition that knowledge would be increased is happening before our very eyes as we see the Brain Age coming in at an unprecedented rate. Though technology has been a blessing in many ways, man's selfishness and greed is also leading the world to an ever increasing "time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation." What a comfort to know, that this trouble is a prophetic sign indicating that we are on the brink of the "Golden Age" that mankind has longed for since the dawn of history! God's Kingdom will be more wonderful, more glorious, more all encompassing, than all the dreams of philosophers, poets and sages. There will be a world of peace (Psalm 46:9) The heal ing of all the defects of humanity (Isa iah 35:5,6) Moral integrity will be planted in every heart (Jeremiah 31:33) All the dead of past ages will be raised to life again (1 Cor. 15:22) Sorrow, pain, tears and death itself will cease (Revelation 21:4) "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived, what God has prepared for those who love him" (1 Corinthians 2:9) We hope you will receive a blessing from reading this booklet. We also recommend reading The Divine Plan of the Ages, available FREE on a DVD offered on the back of the booklet. It is but the first book in a series of six that covers every major doctrine of the Bible as a topical study with a harmony that is unprecedented in Christian literature. This six-volume set is also available FREE on the DVD—or at cost, in a hard bound edition.
Download or read book Roar from Zion written by Paul Wilbur and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2021-07-13 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The son of a Jewish father and Baptist mother, Paul Wilbur grew up attending synagogue. In college he was transformed by a Baptist minister's teaching about a rabbi, Jesus, who fulfilled the promise of the Torah. As he grew in his relationship with Jesus, Wilbur was reintroduced to the God of the Old Testament and began exploring his Jewish heritage. Along the way, he discovered the power of Jewish worship traditions-the weekly Shabbat, with the power of Holy Communion and dedication to family, along with other high holy traditions and feast days. Observing those ancient rituals, now infused with the power of the Holy Spirit, Wilbur heard a sound that he describes as a "roar from Zion." As evangelicals came to understand and incorporate ancient Jewish worship practices in their home and church lives, miracles broke out, fathers assumed their roles as the head of their families, prodigal children returned home, and marriages were restored. What began with one man is now becoming a movement, with tens of thousands taking part"--

Download or read book Holy Imagination written by Prof. Judy Fentress-Williams and published by Abingdon Press. This book was released on 2021-03-03 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The many voices in scripture form a dialogue with readers, which produce theological truths that are larger than the individual parts. This introduction is informed by both literary theory and theology. It groups sections of the whole Bible together by genre. Each section identifies and describes the genre (such as historiography, poetry, prophecy, gospel, letter, apocalypse), and then moves into a discussion about the literary characteristics and theological insights. The words of scripture not only come a long way to find us but like a poem must be read with attention. Poetry doesn’t yield meaning easily, and it doesn’t promise to make sense. We know to look past the words on the page and find the images, tropes, sounds, and metaphors that are meaning-full. This type of writing invites, rather demands, the imagination. We must accept that we will only get so close, but that this is close enough. Our imagination spans the gaps left by sparse language and incomplete narratives. We return again and again, with more information and perhaps more experiences. The words are the same, but we are not; and for that reason there are always new discoveries. “At last, an introduction that students will enjoy reading, because it is at once engaging, informative, and eye-opening, as well as completely lucid. Fentress Williams shows how many books of the Bible reflect the experience of marginalized persons and communities in precarious situations, and therefore how they speak in ways both realistic and encouraging to contemporary readers. Do your students and yourself a favor: adopt this text and get ready for serious conversation about ancient texts that never go out of date.” – Ellen F. Davis, Amos Ragan Kearns Distinguished Professor of Bible and Practical Theology, Duke Divinity School
