Book The Rotating Disc Electrode

Download or read book The Rotating Disc Electrode written by I︠U︡riĭ Viktorovich Pleskov and published by Springer. This book was released on 1976-12 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Important advances in a subject are as often promoted by a new technique as by new concepts and theories. In the study of electrode reactions which involve diffusion in a primary or a secondary step, the development and use of techniques involving rotating disc electrodes and derived instrumentation based on ring-disc and split-ring systems has enabled advances of great importance to be made in the quantitative examination of diffusion processes at electrodes and their role in electrode processes generally. The technique allows precisely defined mass-transport conditions to be set up which can be subjected to exact mathe matical analysis so that quantitative treatment of hydrodynamic and diffusion behavior can be made. Of special interest for elec trochemists is the opportunity which the rotating ring-disc system offers for studying solution-soluble intermediates in sequential electrode processes and the kinetics of their reactions in solution. In this book by Pleskov and Filinovskii, both the experimental techniques and the mathematical analysis for the treatments of results for various conditions and types of reaction are described in detail. We believe that presentation of work that has been car ried out by means of rotating electrode techniques, to a large extent by Russian workers, in the form of a concise book will be of great value both to electrochemists and kineticists, and those interested in the physics of fluid motion.

Biological techniques for removing metal pollutants from soil, air or water are now attracting great interest, both because they are seen as more environmentally friendly than chemical treatments, and because, in some cases at lea

Book Electrode Processes and Electrochemical Engineering

Download or read book Electrode Processes and Electrochemical Engineering written by Fumio Hine and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has been planned and written by Dr. Hine with his knowledge and experience in electrochemical science and engineering for over thirty years since he joined with me at Kyoto University in 1948. This book is unique and is useful for engineers as well as scientists who are going to work in any interdisciplinary field connected with elec trochemistry. Science is sure to clarify the truth of nature as well as bring prosperity and an improvement to the welfare of human beings. The origin of the word "science" is the same as of "conscience," which means the truth of our heart. When we consider a scientific and technological subject, first we classify it into the components and/or factors involved, and then we clarify them individually. Second, we combine them to grasp the whole meaning and feature of the subject under discussion. Computers may help us greatly, but how to establish the software that will be most desirable for our purposes is of great importance. We need to make these efforts ourselves, and not decorate with borrowed plumes. With this concept in mind, this book is attractive because the author describes the basic science in electrochemistry and practice, and discusses the electrochemical engineering applications as a combination of science and technology.

Book Electrochemical Engineering

Download or read book Electrochemical Engineering written by Thomas F. Fuller and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-03-20 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Comprehensive Reference for Electrochemical Engineering Theory and Application From chemical and electronics manufacturing, to hybrid vehicles, energy storage, and beyond, electrochemical engineering touches many industries—any many lives—every day. As energy conservation becomes of central importance, so too does the science that helps us reduce consumption, reduce waste, and lessen our impact on the planet. Electrochemical Engineering provides a reference for scientists and engineers working with electrochemical processes, and a rigorous, thorough text for graduate students and upper-division undergraduates. Merging theoretical concepts with widespread application, this book is designed to provide critical knowledge in a real-world context. Beginning with the fundamental principles underpinning the field, the discussion moves into industrial and manufacturing processes that blend central ideas to provide an advanced understanding while explaining observable results. Fully-worked illustrations simplify complex processes, and end-of chapter questions help reinforce essential knowledge. With in-depth coverage of both the practical and theoretical, this book is both a thorough introduction to and a useful reference for the field. Rigorous in depth, yet grounded in relevance, Electrochemical Engineering: Introduces basic principles from the standpoint of practical application Explores the kinetics of electrochemical reactions with discussion on thermodynamics, reaction fundamentals, and transport Covers battery and fuel cell characteristics, mechanisms, and system design Delves into the design and mechanics of hybrid and electric vehicles, including regenerative braking, start-stop hybrids, and fuel cell systems Examines electrodeposition, redox-flow batteries, electrolysis, regenerative fuel cells, semiconductors, and other applications of electrochemical engineering principles Overlapping chemical engineering, chemistry, material science, mechanical engineering, and electrical engineering, electrochemical engineering covers a diverse array of phenomena explained by some of the important scientific discoveries of our time. Electrochemical Engineering provides the critical understanding required to work effectively with these processes as they become increasingly central to global sustainability.

  • Publisher : BoD – Books on Demand
  • Release : 2018-07-18
  • ISBN : 1789234727
  • Pages : 159 pages

Download or read book Biosorption written by Jan Derco and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2018-07-18 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Municipal and industrial wastewaters contain a wide spectrum of pollutants. Their effective removal presents a challenge for water treatment technology. Biosorption of nutrients and pollutants has been used in sewage treatment since the discovery of the activated sludge process. It is a passive uptake process by which pollutants are adsorbed on the surface of cell walls and/or dissolved in structures of microorganism cells that are present in sludge. Sorbed pollutants remain in the sludge and can be potentially released back into the environment depending on their condition and the reversibility of the pollutant-sludge interaction. An overview of typical biosorption applications for the removal of nutrients, organic pollutants, and metals in wastewater treatment is provided in different areas of their use for the protection of aquatic ecosystems and human health. This book will be of interest to operators of wastewater treatment plants and sludge treatment and disposal facilities as well as to researchers and university students in the field of environmental engineering.
