Book The Power of Discomfort

Download or read book The Power of Discomfort written by José Luiz Tejon and published by Editora Gente. This book was released on 2022-01-21 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WHAT WAS THE GREAT DISCOMFORT OF YOUR LIFE, WHICH, HAD IT NOT HAPPENED, YOU WOULDN'T HAVE GOTTEN TO WHERE YOU ARE? Have you ever stopped to think about how the feeling of discomfort motivates us to run after our dreams? Without the nuisance, the uneasiness, the unpleasantness, the difficulty, in short, the discomfort, we wouldn't leave our safe zone and, much less, try to improve our reality. It is necessary to be uncomfortable in order to transform and even to dream. In The Power of Discomfort you will realize how essential this feeling is for all of us to achieve the transformations we seek, leaving behind a lukewarm, dull life. With inspiring words, José Luiz Tejon takes us on a journey through our inner restlessness and teaches us how we can achieve our best through this feeling that is so present in our lives and, at the same time, so transformative. Here you will learn how to: Identify the seven types of discomfort that are real tools: "fly", "poor me" (victimization), "head against the wall", values, "online fake", apocalyptic (entropic), and divine (syntropic). Identify when the discomfort is legitimate or just an attempt to escape from the problem. Apply the 8Cs method (named after its Portuguese acronym)—Courage, Trust, Cooperation, Creation, Consciousness, Achievement, Correction, and Character—in everyday life. Face life's worries and discomforts without fear, thus avoiding alienation and hopelessness. Trace the path to a life full of joy and fulfillment.

Book excerpt: In the quiet town of Bridge Falls, a boy meets a girl with whom he falls in love. Though this is what he feels, he himself doesn't know, or is afraid to admit that such is his feelings for her. Rainey has big plans for himself. Though adept at farm life, having grown up in one, he doesn't want that life. He is studying architecture and will soon be graduating, on his way to fulfill his dreams. Vienna is the new girl in town. She is beautiful and quirky. Her family owns the newest diner in town, which has become a quick success. And that is where the fateful first meeting of Rainey and Vienna takes place. They are drawn to each other like moths to a flame, their young hearts reveling at the feelings and sensations that they evoke to each other. But unacknowledged love, at least in words, can be as damaging as an unrequited one, since they both look and sound the same. And from this tragic omission, caused by youthful arrogance and misunderstanding, will a love story be fulfilled, yet twenty years in the making. About the Author JULI ANA ANDREW lives in a small rural community in Southern British Columbia with her husband. They live on the banks of a pristine river. Her main priority was raising their two children and being involved in their activities. Once they left home, she worked as a long-term care aide at their local hospital. • Publisher : University of Illinois Press

  • ISBN : 0252056566
  • Pages : 294 pages

Download or read book Chicana Liberation written by Marisela R. Chávez and published by University of Illinois Press. This book was released on 2024-04-30 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mexican American women reached across generations to develop a bridging activism that drew on different methods and ideologies to pursue their goals. Marisela R. Chávez uses a wealth of untapped oral histories to reveal the diverse ways activist Mexican American women in Los Angeles claimed their own voices and space while seeking to leverage power. Chávez tells the stories of the people who honed beliefs and practices before the advent of the Chicano movement and the participants in the movement after its launch in the late 1960s. As she shows, Chicanas across generations challenged societal traditions that at first assumed their place on the sidelines and then assigned them second-class status within political structures built on their work. Fueled by a surging pride in their Mexican heritage and indigenous roots, these activists created spaces for themselves that acknowledged their lives as Mexicans and women. Vivid and compelling, Chicana Liberation reveals the remarkable range of political beliefs and life experiences behind a new activism and feminism shaped by Mexican American women.

Book Particle Personalities

Download or read book Particle Personalities written by Robert Shapiro and published by Light Technology Publishing. This book was released on 1998-03-01 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All around you, in every moment, you are surrounded by the most magical and mystical beings. They are too small, of course, for you to see as single individuals. But in groups you know them as the physical matter in your daily life. They form all of your physical life as you know it. Particles -- who might be considered either atoms or portions of atoms -- consciously view the vast spectrum of reality, yet also have a sense of personal memory like your own linear memory. These particles remember where they have been and what they have done in their infinitely long lives. Particles, then, have a unique and unusual perspective. In reading this book, understand that some of them will have similar points of view, but others will have quite extraordinary and unexpected points of view. Expect the unexpected!

  • Release : 2013-10-30
  • ISBN : 0810888696
  • Pages : 488 pages

Download or read book The Opera Manual written by Nicholas Ivor Martin and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2013-10-30 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You are getting ready for a performance of Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore and you have a few questions. How many clarinets are in the orchestra? How many orchestra members appear onstage? How many different sets are there? How long does the opera typically run? What are the key arias? Are any special effects or ballet choreography required? Who owns the rights? Where was it premiered? What are the leading and supporting roles? The Opera Manual is the only single source for the answers to these and other important questions. It is the ultimate companion for opera lovers, professionals, scholars, and teachers, featuring comprehensive information about, and plot summaries for, more than 550 operas—including every opera that is likely to be performed today, from standard to rediscovered contemporary works. The book is invaluable, especially for opera professionals, who will find everything they need for choosing and staging operas. But it is also a treasure for listeners. Similar reference books commonly skip over scenes and supporting characters in their plot summaries, lacking even the most basic facts about staging, orchestral, and vocal requirements. The Opera Manual, based on the actual scores of the works discussed, is the only exhaustive, up-to-date opera companion—a “recipe book” that will enable its readers to explore those operas they know and discover new ones to sample and enjoy.

Book Word Order in Hungarian

Download or read book Word Order in Hungarian written by Genoveva Puskás and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2000-08-15 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hungarian word-order is characterized by large scale preposing of constituents to sentence-initial positions. This study examines systematically the elements which occur in the left periphery. Focal, wh- and negative operators which have scope over the whole sentence must appear in the left periphery overtly; topicalized elements precede the scope operators and appear in an organized system as well. The author proposes that the structure of the Hungarian sentence comprises a rich set of left-peripheral functional projections, organized into sub-systems, like the Scope field and the Topic field. On the basis of the structure of Hungarian, the study proposes to consider these sub-systems as being in turn split, that is hierarchically organized into specific functional projections. The study also examines the well-formedness conditions linked to multiple preposing. It is shown that the various well-formedness criteria apply overtly in Hungarian. This enables to make a direct link between the scope properties of affective operators and the articulated structure of the left periphery.
