Book excerpt: What happens when you're on holiday and the sun explodes? **AVAILABLE TO PRE-ORDER NOW** 'Five Stars, Would Recommend' GRADY HENDRIX 'Lord of the Flies crashes headfirst into The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' BENJAMIN STEVENSON Professional underachiever Dan Foster is finally taking a break. Sure, his life has been average at best and, yes, he has never has quite lived up to his potential. But after a few Bud Lights in paradise with his girlfriend Mara, things are starting to look up. Then the sun explodes. With the island suddenly plunged into darkness, the ultra-rich guests hijack the remaining supplies and declare themselves the new ruling class. Led by a fitness influencer turned ruthless dictator, martial law is declared and the hoi polloi are press-ganged into service. And it's just Dan's luck that he could land an even worse job while on holiday. As temperatures drop and class tensions rise, Dan might have found a way for himself and Mara to escape the island. But sneaking away would also mean abandoning the burgeoning revolution that he might-have-kind-of-sort-of single-handedly started. Book excerpt: "Worst Vacation Ever—Five Stars, Would Recommend." — Grady Hendrix, New York Times bestselling author of How to Sell a Haunted House White Lotus meets Kevin Wilson in this whip-smart social satire about a man who finds himself trapped on an island resort after the sun explodes, and suddenly must choose whether to save himself from the chaos, or help the fellow guests make it off the island alive... Vacation Checklist: Pack swim trunks. Apply sunscreen. Survive the apocalypse? Professional underachiever Dan Foster is finally taking a vacation. Sure, his life has been average at best, and yeah, he's never quite lived up to his potential. But after a few Miller Lites in paradise with his girlfriend, Mara, things are starting to look up. Then the sun explodes. With the island resort suddenly plunged into darkness (he really should've sprung for the travel insurance), Dan's holiday goes from bad to worse when elite guests stage a coup and commandeer supplies. As temperatures drop and class tensions rise, revolution begins to brew on the island, and Dan accidentally becomes a beacon of hope for the surviving vacationers. But when one six-person plane is discovered that could get them back to the mainland, Dan realizes he has a choice to make. Does he escape the island with Mara? Or does he stay and fight to become the most unlikely hero of the end of the world?

Book excerpt: United Nations Special Operations Command sent an elite Expeditionary Force of soldiers and pilots out on a simple recon mission, and somehow along the way they sparked an alien civil war. Now the not-at-all-Merry Band of Pirates is in desperate trouble, again. Their stolen alien starship is falling apart, thousands of lightyears from home. The ancient alien AI they nicknamed 'Skippy' is apparently dead, and even if they can by some miracle revive him, he might never be the same.

Book excerpt: The America of 2021 bears little resemblance to that of merely a decade ago, and journalist Christian Schneider has been there to document it all - from the rise and fall of the Tea Party to a deadly pandemic killing nearly three-quarters of a million Americans to a violent insurrection in the halls of the U.S. Capitol. Schneider, a member of the USA Today Board of Contributors, has spent over a decade writing about the cultural phenomena that brought America to where it is today. While society once built on the knowledge of prior generations, Americans are now in what he calls the "Golden Era of Anti-Knowledge" - where all facts are negotiable and public figures are incentivized to hold tightly to preposterous positions, rather than backtrack to ones more plausible. "Anti-Knowledge: Essays From the Era of Negotiable Truth" is a greatest hits of Schneider's work from the past decade (or so.) Schneider's work, featured in USA Today, The New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, National Review and other publications, blends wit and traditional conservatism to provide a unique perspective on the American culture over the past ten years.

Book excerpt: Imagine you are a consumer who purchases an item online, but the product isn't what you bargained for. Because you don't want other consumers to waste their time or money, you take to social media to post an honest account of your experience. You are then aggressively approached by the company that sold you the substandard product and threatened with a stiff penalty unless you immediately take down the critical review. Buried in the fine print of the website's terms and conditions was an anti-consumer clause forbidding you from posting a negative review about the company. This scenario sounds farfetched, but the sad reality is that it is happening every day across the country. So-called non-disparagement or gag clauses are being forced on consumers and then being used to intimidate them. These gag provisions are egregious from a consumer protection standpoint, but they are also doing harm to the Internet ecosystem. A core tenet of the Internet is the ability to freely share information with whomever you like. What good is information if it has been sanitized to remove truthful criticism?
