Book Journey of a Lifetime

Download or read book Journey of a Lifetime written by Ajaz Haque and published by Archway Publishing. This book was released on 2024-04-16 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inspired by the flow of tourists from Europe to Asia, author Ajaz Haque and his friend Bilal planned in 1963 to hitchhike from Asia to Europe. By doing this, the teenagers charted an unprecedented course, hitchhiking from Lahore, Pakistan, to Stuttgart, Germany, while carrying nothing but dreams. With hardly any money and only ambition in their pockets, they embarked on a journey about which they had hardly any idea. In 1964, their journey led them to Iran, where they encountered an unexpected roadblock due to passport restrictions in Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, and Austria. They were dejected in Tehran, but their fortunes took a remarkable turn when they spotted a world map on a nearby newsstand. In a flash of inspiration, they decided to bypass Bulgaria and Yugoslavia, opting for an alternate route through Greece, Italy, and Switzerland, a choice that turned their mission impossible into a feat. Along the way they experienced the warmth and hospitality of Turkey, suspicion in Greece during the Cyprus conflict, a progressive and fast-developing environment Italy, and the beauty of Switzerland. Their story shares the unfamiliar cultures and cuisines they encountered, the challenges of indecipherable languages and survival, and finally accomplishing their mission and experiencing the elation of making it to Stuttgart, Germany. This personal narrative recalls a vital journey taken in one man’s youth in the 1960s and explores the way it affected the rest of his life.

Book The Role of the Indian Ocean for Global Peace Interdisciplinary Issues

Download or read book The Role of the Indian Ocean for Global Peace Interdisciplinary Issues written by Dr. (Capt.) Vivek Jain and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2023-11-02 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the various interdisciplinary issues of the Indian Ocean, individually and collectively, such as its history, geography, nautical elements, economics, trade routes (old and new), blue economy, deep-sea mining, fisheries management, tourism, scourge of piracy, pollution, Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982), and the different perspectives of its littoral countries on geopolitics, international law, international relations and maritime partnerships. It is the most important ocean in the world – 33% of the global population lives in the area and 50-60% of the world’s maritime trade transits through it. In addition, around 60% of global oil, and 26% of global gas reserves, along with pristine beaches are located here. To comprehend the interdisciplinary issues, the editor embarked on a voyage to discover, persuade and collaborate with exceptionally brilliant, influential experts from prominent littoral countries – India, Indonesia, Iran, South Africa, Malaysia and Singapore – with relevant experience to expound the above subject areas. In addition, geopolitical conflicts/hostilities and trade wars are on the rise; war seems inevitable but not imminent. Any conflict is likely to originate in other oceans and seas but will end up impacting the Indian Ocean’s littoral countries. Accordingly, these countries must comprehend the interdisciplinary issues and the special role of the Indian Ocean to prevent all-encompassing wars/hostilities from widening at a global level and thereafter must flesh out plans to shield themselves. They must also understand the area’s role in working towards global peace by comprehending the above interdisciplinary issues. The role of the Indian Ocean in global peace can only be achieved through maritime partnerships between its littoral countries, and their avoidance of impulses to invite outside power(s) to balance each other’s power. However, maritime partnerships are easier said than done. At the very least, the maritime partnership between two major Indian Ocean littoral powers – India and Indonesia – is critical to shield the region from geopolitical firestorms. Hopefully, this maritime partnership’s tactic of embracing a carrot-and-stick approach will eventually persuade global powers from outside the Indian Ocean region to improve their conduct to achieve global peace.

Book A Sociopolitical Study of Iranian Baloch Elites 1979 2013

Download or read book A Sociopolitical Study of Iranian Baloch Elites 1979 2013 written by Ahmad Reza Taheri and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014-07-13 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A Sociopolitical Study of Iranian Baloch Elites (1979-2013)" is a new study which so far has not been explored. Actually, the present book is a response to the critics of my previous book, "The Baloch in Post Islamic Revolution Iran: A Political Study", privately circulated in Iran. After receiving critical comments, I began to reassess the book. So, I divided it, deleted one chapter, reviewed and edited some chapters, and published two chapters in the form of articles. On the whole, it took me four years (2010-14) to review and edit these "series of articles" or to "reorganize the present book", A Sociopolitical Study of Iranian Baloch Elites (1979-2013).
