Book Yugoslavian armored units 1940 1945

Download or read book Yugoslavian armored units 1940 1945 written by Paolo Crippa and published by Soldiershop Publishing. This book was released on 2020-05-07 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume tells the almost unknown story of Yugoslav tankers from training to the Second World War. The formation of the first armored units of the Army of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia dates back to the late 1920s, when military authorities felt the need to equip the units with an armored component, on the basis of the experiences lived during the Great War by the armies engaged in trench warfare. Contrary to what happened with many other European armies at that time, these armored units did not develop as an extension of the cavalry divisions but were instead formed as independent departments, officially called "Combat Units". With these departments, the Kingdom of Yugoslavia faced the Second World War. After the Italian-German invasion of 1941, Independent Croatia and Slovenian collaborative forces formed armored units, employed in the anti-partisan struggle, and the Wehrmacht formed 3 Armored Divisions formed by Croatian volunteers.

Book Mobility shock and firepower The Emergence of the U S Army s Armor Branch 1917 1945

Download or read book Mobility shock and firepower The Emergence of the U S Army s Armor Branch 1917 1945 written by Robert S. Cameron and published by Government Printing Office. This book was released on 2008 with total page 588 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the Preface: The following pages provide a narrative analysis of the U.S. Army's development of armored organizations and their related doctrine, materiel, and training activities in the period 1917-1945. This period marked the emergence of clear principles of armored warfare that became the underpinning of the Armor Branch, influencing armored developments long after World War II ended. A unique style of mounted maneuver combat emerged that reflected a mix of tradition an innovation. In the process, American military culture changed, particularly through the adoption of combined-arms principles. Conversely, political actions, budgetary considerations, and senior leadership decisions also shaped the course of armor development. The emergence of an American armored force involved more than simply tank development. It included the creation of an armored division structure steeped in combined-arms principles, organizational flexibility, and revolutionary command and control processes. Parallel developments included the establishment of specialized units to provide antitank, reconnaissance, and infantry support capabilities. Several Army branches played a role in determining the precise path of armored development, and one of them-the Cavalry-became a casualty as a result.

Download or read book Italian Medium Tanks written by Filippo Cappellano and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2012-12-20 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Several factors delayed and greatly hampered the development of an Italian medium tank during World War II. The first was the strategic stance of the country, focussed on a war against neighbouring countries such as France and Yugoslavia, and ill-prepared for a war in the Western Desert. Since these European countries bordered with Italy in mountainous areas, light tanks were preferred as these were deemed much more suitable for the narrow roads and bridges of the Alps. Furthermore, development was hampered by the limited number of Italian industries, whose production was also heavily fragmented. All these factors delayed the development of the first prototype of an Italian medium tank – the M 11 – which would only appear in 1937 and did not enter production until 1939. Although technically inferior to their German and Allied counterparts in 1941–43, the Italian M tanks proved to be quite effective when used by experienced crews with adequate combat tactics. In fact, their major shortcoming actually proved to be their limited production figures. While production was limited, innovation was not and, between 1941 and 1943, several experiments were carried out on the Italian tanks that produced interesting prototypes such as the anti-aircraft semovente.

It presents not only the events of the two world wars, but also of the interwar period, when there was fighting and political upheaval in many areas of the world, from Russia to Spain to China. The strictly chronological approach of World in Conflict allows the reader to comprehend the key battles on land, at sea, and in the air, on all fronts across the international arena. Book Hungarian armoured units during the Second World War

Download or read book Hungarian armoured units during the Second World War written by Eduardo Manuel Gil Martínez and published by Soldiershop Publishing. This book was released on 2023-10-24 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The actions of German armored forces during World War II are well known. What has not yet been recounted as accurately are the actions of the armored forces of Germany’s Allies. While it is true that their performance was generally quite secondary to what the forces of the German Reich were able to afford, the actions of the Hungarian armored forces, which not only managed to organize their own armored forces in substantial autonomy, but also developed their own military industry capable of supplying weapons and equipment to their troops, should be emphasized. This book will thus reveal a little-known page of Hungary’s participation in World War II through the use of superb photographs provided by the author and his contributors. This story will take the reader from the beginning of the USSR campaign and consequent conquest of large Soviet territories, and then end with the bloody battles to prevent the advance of the Soviet and Romanian counteroffensive in Hungary (the siege of Budapest) and the last battles in Austrian and Slovenian territory before the unconditional surrender of the army. The author highlights the courage of these men and the terrible fate that would befall the Hungarian armored forces when the Soviet army invaded Hungary.
