Book Youth Policy

Download or read book Youth Policy written by Gordon Blakely and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2005-07-19 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: European co-operation has a special role in relation to youth. Both the Council of Europe and the European Community have developed specific initiatives to promote the interests of youth, and to place them in a European-wide context. These initiatives cover economic, social, educational and cultural matters. New opportunities have been created for youth exchanges and an increasingly important application of the EC Social Fund is concerned with youth issues. This volume has a wider focus than the others in this series in that it covers the initiatives of both the European Community and some of the work done by the Council of Europe. It explains how their youth policies have developed, the differences between them, it guides the reader as to its current programmes, and it also discusses proposals affecting the immediate future. This volume will be of special interest to the diverse audience concerned with youth policy: public administrators, educationalists, social and cultural bodies, youth representatives and young individuals.

Book excerpt: Exchanges between different cultures and institutions of learning have taken place for centuries, but it was only in the twentieth century that such efforts evolved into formal programs that received focused attention from nation-states, empires and international organizations. Global Exchanges provides a wide-ranging overview of this underresearched topic, examining the scope, scale and evolution of organized exchanges around the globe through the twentieth century. In doing so it dramatically reveals the true extent of organized exchange and its essential contribution for knowledge transfer, cultural interchange, and the formation of global networks so often taken for granted today.

Book YOUTH CARE KNOWLEDGE EXCHANGE THROUGH ONLINE SIMULATION GAMING

Download or read book YOUTH CARE KNOWLEDGE EXCHANGE THROUGH ONLINE SIMULATION GAMING written by Roelof Petrus Hortulanus and published by Kees JM van Haaster, Amersfoort-NL. This book was released on 2014 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Youth care multi-disciplinary networks need flexible, interactive and attractive tools and methods for knowledge exchange in view of timely, effective and durable help in complex parenting problem situations. Social media, virtuality, simulation and gaming gain an increasing significance in the way people share information, learn and organize themselves. This leads to the question whether youth care practice is ready to adopt some online practicalities for network exchange. This design study describes model development and model appreciation of online role-play simulation gaming as a time, pace and place independent way to share expertise, information and knowledge among the actors in youth care practice. The results show that youth care professionals think that simulation gaming is relevant and convenient to unravel difficult issues, to elaborate network strategies, and to jointly reflect on intervention. The research is unique in domains of youth care intervention and in game theory. The singularity of contexts and actors is taken as starting point in a cross-over of game design and behavioral science. Online role-play simulation gaming leads to a better understanding of complexity in youth care situations and to a greater awareness of network capacities and capabilities and helps to establish accountability of choices of intervention.

Book The Domestic Dimension of Public Diplomacy

Download or read book The Domestic Dimension of Public Diplomacy written by Katarzyna Pisarska and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-15 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores new grounds that public diplomacy is entering today, as domestic publics come to the forefront of the policy – acting both as foreign policy constituencies and public diplomacy actors cooperating with their foreign counterparts. The author discusses the phenomena of public diplomacy’s domestic dimension described as government’s ability to engage its own society in foreign policy practices through information, cooperation and identity-defining. By analysing data from over 80 recorded interviews with Australian, Norwegian and American public diplomacy practitioners, this volume illustrates both successful and unsuccessful models of such cooperation. From Norwegian Peace Diplomacy, through Australia’s ambivalent engagement with Asia, to U.S. Government-sponsored exchange programs, the author argues that governments around the world are slowly accepting a paradigm shift in diplomatic practice from monological/dialogical to a more collaborative public diplomacy. This book is an essential resource for students, scholars, experts and diplomats interested in world’s best-practices of engaging domestic civil society actors in foreign policy statecraft.
