Book Luke s Literary Creativity

Download or read book Luke s Literary Creativity written by Mogens Müller and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2016-08-11 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A combination of two classic discussions in New Testament scholarship, the contributions in this volume shed light on the still unsolved synoptic problem by using the well-coined concept of rewriting to describe the relationship between the synoptic gospels. The contributions work with the hypothesis that the synoptic tradition can be conceived of as a process of rewriting: Matthew rewrote Mark and Luke rewrote Mark and Matthew. This approach to the synoptic problem dismantles the grounds for the otherwise widely accepted two-source theory. If it can be shown that Luke knew Matthew's Gospel the Q-hypothesis is superfluous. One group of articles focuses on the general question of Luke's literary relation to the other gospels. In these essays, the concept of rewriting describes Luke's use of his sources. The second part of the collection examines a number of texts in order to shown how Luke rewrites specific passages. In the final section the contributions concern Luke's relation to Roman authorities. It is shown that Luke's literary creativity is not limited to his predecessors in the gospel tradition. Rewriting is his literary strategy.

Book Day by Day

Download or read book Day by Day written by Frederick Borsch and published by Church Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2009 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The popular song Day by Day from "Godspell" was actually written in the Middle Ages by Richard of Chichester, a saint remembered for his humility, his perseverance in times of hardship, his care for the poor, and the strength and generosity of his faith. After his death miracles of healing were said to have taken place through his intercession, and a shrine grew up at his cathedral in Chichester, a small city south of London. His had been a life of close friendships and high position, but also exclusion, exile and poverty. The intonations of a brave and searching man on his knees can be heard throughout this prayer. Borsch uses the life of Richard to illuminate and guide us as we seek day by day to see more clearly, love more dearly and follow God more nearly. These intellectually solid meditations draw on Scripture and church history to aid us in our devotional life.

Book The Book of Luke

    Book Details:
  • Author : Luther Campbell
  • Publisher : HarperCollins
  • Release : 2015-08-04
  • ISBN : 0062336436
  • Pages : 221 pages

Download or read book The Book of Luke written by Luther Campbell and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2015-08-04 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Born in Miami's notorious Liberty City, Luther Campbell witnessed poverty, despair, and crime firsthand. His uncle Ricky did not want him trapped by the "invisible chains" of systemic racism, so Ricky schooled him on the necessity of a black man running his own life, controlling his livelihood, and owning property. Embracing these lessons, Campbell discovered his gift for entrepreneurship: He created one of the first hip-hop record companies, Luke Records, which started out of a shed in his mom's backyard and grew into a multimillion-dollar enterprise. As a rapper on his own label, Luke became known as the "King of Dirty Rap" and helped pioneer the worldwide phenomenon of Miami Bass. He went on to become the front man and manager for the rap group 2 Live Crew, and was key to the success of the group's controversial platinum recording As Nasty As They Wanna Be. His hugely popular and provocative music infuriated the Man, and Luke was marked as public enemy number one when hip-hop crossed the color line into white America. Campbell would spend more than a million dollars of his own money fighting cops and prosecutors, and he went all the way to the Supreme Court to protect his—and every other artist's—right to free speech, setting landmark legal precedents that continue to shape the entertainment industry to this day. In Campbell's clear and honest voice, he shares unforgettable stories of his rise to celebrity status, including illicit tales from his raunchy concerts. He also breaks down how he lost his fortune, but in the process gained a better perspective on life. His father taught him to be responsible for his actions and to be proud of himself. Campbell expressed this by being cocky and holding his head up high, but, as he acknowledges, "America has never been an easy place for a black man who doesn't know how to apologize." Touching on some of the most pressing issues of our time, The Book of Luke is a raw and powerful memoir of how one man invented southern hip-hop, saved the First Amendment, and became a role model for the disenfranchised people of the city he calls home.
