Book From Your Loving Son

Download or read book From Your Loving Son written by Elin Williams Neiterman and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2011-09-21 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: War was no stranger to the town of Sudbury, Massachusetts. A small farming community at the outbreak of the Civil War, Sudbury stood ready to support the cause of the Union. Uriah and Mary Moore, a local farmer and his wife, parents of ten children, sent four sons off to fight for the Union. George Frederick Moore was twenty years old when he joined the Thirty-fifth Regiment Massachusetts Volunteers in 1862, along with brother, Albert. Their brother, John, had enlisted in the Thirteenth Regiment Massachusetts Volunteers and had been serving since 1861. In 1864, a fourth brother, Alfred, joined the Fifty-ninth Regiment Massachusetts Volunteers. The eighty-four letters in this collection span the years from August 1862 to the end of the War and include correspondence to and from Pvt. George Moore and five family members. Georges personal diaries from 1863 and 1864 are also included, as well as the 1867 diary of Sarah Jones, the girl he married. Through research the family is traced long after the war, revealing their travels and accomplishments. Explanatory passages that accompany these letters highlight the campaigns of the Thirty-fifth Regiment through the war years. George Moore took part in battles from South Mountain and Antietam to Fredericksburg, Vicksburg, Campbells Station, and the Siege of Knoxville. He participated in the Battles of the Wilderness, Cold Harbor, and the assault on Petersburg. The letters to and from George Moore and his loved ones provide an intimate glimpse of the trials, not only of the soldiers, but of the family who sent their boys off to war.

Book excerpt: …Well dear Jim it breaks my heart to write this letter. Our dear [brother] was killed yesterday morning at 5.30. The bullet killed him instantly and he never spoke a word. I had just left him and gone down the trench to see the other lads when I was called back. Oh Jim it is awful … Oh I do hope he is the last … It is April 27, 1918, Jim’s brother writes from the battlefields of France. Of five brothers serving on the Western Front, three have given their lives; another has been hospitalized. Six agonizing months of brutal warfare were yet to be endured … World War I was a senseless tragedy. Its long shadow darkened the four corners of the world. In Mologa, Victoria, once a bustling community, stands a lonely stone memorial. Etched within the granite are the names of the Marlow brothers and their mates; a testament to ordinary people who became heroes. Anzac Sons is composed from a collection of over 500 letters and postcards written by the brothers who served. From the training grounds of Victoria, Egypt and England, to the Western Front battlefields – Pozieres, Bullecourt, Messines, Menin Road, Passchendaele, Villers-Bretonneux and the battles of 1918 – this compelling true story was compiled by the granddaughter of a surviving brother. She takes us on her journey as she walks in the footsteps of her ancestors. This is a story of mateship, bravery and sacrifice; it is a heartbreaking account of a family torn apart by war. It is a pledge to never forget.

Book Till Then My Love Forever

Download or read book Till Then My Love Forever written by Donald Scioscia and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2004 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I BELIEVE DIVINE INTERVENTION HELPED SAVE MY LIFE. Other people may call it being lucky, beating the odds, or a twist of fate. But there was one day in my life, one dramatic moment that determined whether I would live or die. The intervention came so dramatically I thought that what happened must have been from God. Amazingly, it was not a doctor who rescued me from death. Instead, God sent the most famous Wall Street financier and philanthropist at the time, who met with presidents of the United States. His name was Bernard M. Baruch. Now that I'm in my seventies, I have the luxury of looking back and trying to understand why God gave me a long life, what I like to call the mystery of life, with a little intervention from Mr. Baruch. Why did God let me live? That is an interesting question only because I never became as wealthy or famous Mr. Baruch.
