Book Your Complete and Easy Guide to Understanding Peripheral Artery Disease

Download or read book Your Complete and Easy Guide to Understanding Peripheral Artery Disease written by Brian D. Duscha and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2015-09-08 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended to help readers better understand Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD), a disease that results from atherosclerosis in the legs. Information gained from this book will allow patients and family members to learn what PAD is by introducing you to words and terminology associated with the disease, reasons why people develop PAD and how it is diagnosed. The book describes the major risk factors (diabetes, smoking, high cholesterol, high blood pressure) and treatment options (medication, exercise, diet/nutrition, surgery) available to treat PAD. A reader friendly approach has been taken by trying to keep the concepts as simple as possible. The book is written to be understood by those without extensive medical expertise. However, some areas of this book do go into greater detail. The intent is to empower readers with enough knowledge that they can understand their doctor and their treatment better. By better understanding the information your doctors are telling you, and having read about potential treatment options, a patient can have more meaningful communication and shared decision making with their doctors. Throughout the book underlined bold sentences, illustrations and bulleted information are used to emphasize important points for patients to consider. The motivation for this book comes from hearing patients with PAD continue to say there is not a book written on PAD that answers their questions or describes all areas of the disease. This book is a result of listening to these concerns and questions of PAD patients and trying to provide information and answers.

Download or read book Peripheral Arterial Disease written by Charisse J. Ward and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-07-21 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lower extremity peripheral arterial disease (PAD) affects more than 8 million people in the United States and over 202 million people globally. Doctors are seeing an exponential increase in the number of patients with PAD as risk factors become more prevalent, the population ages, and the treatments for chronic diseases become more sophisticated. But there's good news, too: medical advances have improved the treatment of PAD, and you have a real chance of regaining a normal life after a PAD diagnosis. My goal in writing this book is to educate you and your family about the most important aspects of PAD: -its risk factors -its symptoms and diagnosis -its natural progression -other medical conditions you may experience along with PAD -treatment options All these will be presented in everyday, non-medical language that any reader can understand. If you need only a brief overview for now, skip ahead to the Frequently Asked Questions at the end of this book. But I hope you'll take the time later to review the contents in more detail to learn more about your (or your loved one's) disease and the many treatment options that modern medicine has to offer. I want to empower you as a patient to make informed decisions about your own care. I also want to encourage you to get diagnosed earlier. This will mean less pain, faster diabetic wound healing, fewer needless amputations, preservation of independence, and a greater quality of life.

Book Vascular Diseases for the Non Specialist

Download or read book Vascular Diseases for the Non Specialist written by Tulio Pinho Navarro and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-01-03 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to provide non-specialist healthcare practitioners with current, focused and objective information on the most common vascular diseases encountered in daily clinical practice. In day-to-day clinical practice many healthcare practitioners do not have a working knowledge of the most common vascular diseases that frequently arise in patient care. Some of these topics include: aneurysms, peripheral arterial disease, diabetic foot, venous thromboembolism, cerebrovascular disease, aortic dissection, and acute limb ischemia. These commonly encountered vascular diseases are becoming public health issues due to their high morbidity and mortality as well as increasing healthcare costs. Since patients with vascular diseases are often referred to non-specialists, the general practitioner must know how to proper handle the most common vascular diseases encountered in daily clinical practice. For each disease the concept, epidemiology, natural history, diagnosis and treatment are described, followed by essential advice on what the non-specialist can do for the patient and when to refer the patient to a specialist.
