Download or read book You Didn t Grow in My Tummy You Grew in My Heart written by Keri Swain and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Mammy, when we grew in your tummy, did we grow there together"? When twins Hope and Morganna asked their innocent question one day they could have had no idea of the emotional journey it was to send their "Mammy" on. For Keri the months that followed were full of other questions that began to make her think. In February 2006 Keri watched as two young girls said a tearful goodbye to their mother. Never before had she faced the reality that she may not be here to tell her girls how it was that Grandma became Mammy, she had always taken for granted that she would be able to tell her girls, in her own words how it came about that they had lost a complete generation of their family. Keri embarked on writing a letter that would if she were not able to do so herself tell all four of her girls what had happened, the letter grew into a book, which Keri knew had to be shared. In her words without apportioning blame Keri shares with her readers the emotional rollercoaster journey that she has travelled in getting a residence order on Hope and Morganna. She tells of her frustration and despair as she realises she is unable to reach her own daughter Bo, and save her from the dark world she seems intent on living in. Then most heartbreakingly of all Keri shares the deepest of sorrows, a pain that will live within her forever - that of having to say goodbye to her own granddaughters - Hope and Morganna's younger sister's. Throughout her story Keri has shown the love and devotion she holds for her family, and how one word came to mean so much for her, a word that even today she holds onto - Hope. Just two days after submitting her final manuscript Keri suffered a double Sub-arachnoid haemorrhage (brain haemorrhage), she is home and well on her way to making a full recovery.

WINNER OF THE CHRISTY AWARD® When an impoverished school district loses its accreditation and the affluent community of Crystal Ridge has no choice but to open their school doors, the lives of three very different women converge: Camille Gray--the wife of an executive, mother of three, long-standing PTA chairwoman and champion fundraiser--faced with a shocking discovery that threatens to tear her picture-perfect world apart at the seams. Jen Covington, the career nurse whose long, painful journey to motherhood finally resulted in adoption but she is struggling with a happily-ever-after so much harder than she anticipated. Twenty-two-year-old Anaya Jones--the first woman in her family to graduate college and a brand new teacher at Crystal Ridge's top elementary school, unprepared for the powder-keg situation she's stepped into. Tensions rise within and without, culminating in an unforeseen event that impacts them all. This story explores the implicit biases impacting American society, and asks the ultimate question: What does it mean to be human? Why are we so quick to put labels on each other and categorize people as "this" or "that", when such complexity exists in each person?

Book You Should Be Grateful

Download or read book You Should Be Grateful written by Angela Tucker and published by Beacon Press. This book was released on 2023-04-18 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An adoption expert and transracial adoptee herself examines the unique perspectives and challenges these adoptees have as they navigate multiple cultures “Your parents are so amazing for adopting you! You should be grateful that you were adopted.” Angela Tucker is a Black woman, adopted from foster care by white parents. She has heard this microaggression her entire life, usually from well-intentioned strangers who view her adoptive parents as noble saviors. She is grateful for many aspects of her life, but being transracially adopted involves layers of rejection, loss, and complexity that cannot be summed up so easily. In “You Should Be Grateful,” Tucker centers the experiences of adoptees to share deeply personal stories, well-researched history, and engrossing anecdotes from mentorship sessions with adopted youth. These perspectives challenge the fairy-tale narrative of adoption, giving way to a fuller story that explores the impacts of racism, classism, family, love, and belonging.

Book When I Carried You in My Belly

Download or read book When I Carried You in My Belly written by Thrity Umrigar and published by Running Press Kids. This book was released on 2017-04-04 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Love Your Forever meets On the Night You Were Born in this heartwarming picture book about a mother's love for her child. The special bond between a mother and her child begins well before the baby is born. But once the baby is born and starts to grow into her own person, traits from both parents begin to show themselves in delightful and humorous ways. When I Carried You in My Belly is a mother's song to her growing daughter, capturing the warmth and magic of the time when her daughter was housed inside her belly. The girl's laugh, her love of music, her sweet disposition, and her carefree attitude can all be traced back to her time in her mother's tummy, when her mother would laugh, sing songs, eat yummy treats, and dance the day away. Thrity Umrigar's lyrical and playful text are well complemented by Ziyue Chen's soft and delightful illustrations, and together they create a sentimental and insightful book about the special bond between parents and children. With a similar tone to On the Night You Were Born and the spirit of I Loved You Before You Were Born, When I Carried You in My Belly is primed to become a new timeless classic.

Book The Spirituality of Grandparenting

Download or read book The Spirituality of Grandparenting written by Ralph Milton and published by Wood Lake Publishing Inc.. This book was released on 2007 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Our spiritual vocation as grandparents is to delight in our grandchildren." So begins Ralph Milton, in this latest addition to the beautifully and lavishly illustrated Spirituality of... series. More than a celebration of grandchildren, this book is a celebration of grandparenting, and of the very real gifts it offers to both the grandchild and to the grandparent. Which is not to say that grandparenting is always easy or fun. While Milton shares lots of stories of hugs and giggles, of silly songs and tender moments, he also knows that many grandparents struggle with the challenge of long-distance grand-parenting, with the pain and tension of separation from grandchildren due to marriage break-up, and with the anxiety and distress of grandchildren who are in trouble or who are ill. But Milton doesn't dwell on these things. Rather, he returns, always, to the delight, wonder, and love, which is foremost in the experience of any grandparent; and to the inherent bond that exists between older adults and children. This remarkable book is for grandparents who are new to the role and for grandparents who have earned their degree in 'grandparentology' through long experience. It's for 'traditional' grandparents and for grandparents of adopted children; it's for surrogate grandparents and even for grandparents-in-waiting.
