Download or read book Nature s Serial Story written by Edward Payson Roe and published by . This book was released on 1885 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unsigned binding design likely by Edwin Austin Abbey in brown over gold on olive green diagonally ribbed cloth. Includes frontispiece and over 130 illustrations from wood engravings by William Hamilton Gibson and Frederic Dielman. An idyllic tale of human love set among the changing seasons on a farm in the Hudson Highlands. Originally published as an 1884 story series in Harper's Magazine. A stunning binding design that contains similar design elements as Fly-Rods and Fly-Tackle. Nature's Serial Story and Fly-Rods and Fly-Tackle have similar Arts and Crafts inspired waving lines that provide the illusion of moving water, and were released together with Edwin Austin Abbey's memorable Arts and Crafts inspired binding design for Sketching Rambles in Holland by Harper as holiday books in 1885. All three books were bound in what Harper's called "illuminated cloth". As the Arts and Crafts font for Nature's Serial Song and and Sketching Rambles in Holland are very similar and the books have the same general feel, and as Abbey was actively designing covers for Harper at the time, Austin Abbey Rare Books is provisionally attributing the binding design of Nature's Serial Story to Edwin Austin Abbey pending additional research. -- Austin Abbey Rare Books.

Download or read book Building a Character written by Constantin Stanislavski and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2013-01-01 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this follow up to his most famous book, An Actor Prepares, Stanislavski develop his influential 'system' of acting by exploring the imaginative processes at the heart of the actor's craft. Building a Character deals with the physical realisation of character on the stage through such tools as expressions, movement and speech. It is a book in which every theory is inextricably bound up with practice - a perfect handbook to the physical art of acting. The work of Stanislavski has inspired generations of actors and trainers and - available now in the Bloomsbury Revelations series to mark the 150th anniversary of Stanislavski's birth - it remains an essential read for actors and directors at all stages of their careers.

Download or read book The Selected Lectures of Ralph Waldo Emerson written by Ralph Waldo Emerson and published by University of Georgia Press. This book was released on 2005 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first and only comprehensive selection of lectures by Ralph Waldo Emerson, his era’s most prominent American man of letters and one of the foremost architects of our intellectual culture. Based on authoritative texts selected and edited by Ronald A. Bosco and Joel Myerson--the most experienced Emerson editors working today--these twenty-five addresses collectively exemplify the lecture style for which Emerson was famed in his day. Best known to his contemporaries as a lecturer, Emerson delivered some 1,500 addresses over the course of his career. Because his most important ideas were worked out in his lectures, they provide the best record we have of his evolving thought--and thus are a key to our understanding of his essays and other printed works. Gathered here are lectures on American culture, literary theory and aesthetics, moral and, as Emerson called it, "intellectual" philosophy, and social and political reform. They are taken from speaking engagements in the United States and the British Isles over the period 1833-1871, during which Emerson often spent four to six months a year on the lecture circuit; lectures from the earliest years of Emerson’s career (1833-1842) have been newly edited for this volume. The volume’s introduction draws on contemporary accounts to describe Emerson’s idiosyncratic but utterly memorable manner of speaking. A headnote provides context to the composition and delivery of each lecture, and footnotes identify Emerson’s allusions to persons, places, occasions, quotations, and books. "By examining his lectures and how they were delivered," say Bosco and Myerson, "we can look into the laboratory of Emerson’s intellectual and compositional process and see his published writings gestating."
