Book The History of the Youtsey Family in America Starting in 1744

Download or read book The History of the Youtsey Family in America Starting in 1744 written by Karen V. Sipe and published by . This book was released on 2018-11-06 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of this work is to help Youtsey descendants connect to their family roots. It is a compilation of information pertaining to Youtsey families living in the United States, which spans more than 250 years. This study begins with the immigrant Johann Peter Youtsey in 1744. He settled in Frederick County, Maryland, and is the progenitor of the Maryland line. The Maryland and main body of the Youtsey family is substantial, with over 2,400 people plus spouses and in-laws. This work opens with an examination of the Youtsey name, followed by family stories, then familial lines. Additional topics cover: family experiences, religious connections, coming to America, the Maryland years, migration West, the Kentucky years, the Ohio years, Miami County (Ohio), the Indiana years, Missouri, populating the United States, Youtsey lands, military service, personal stories, cemetery pictures, investigation and analysis of the bigger picture, and, two types of records: passengers lists and Civil War pension records. Supplemental material includes: Bible records and similar journals, a John Stuart dictation, Youtsey letters (1840-1922), selected poems by Henry Eckert Youtsey, newspaper articles, a Kentucky tax chart (1807-1848), books by and including Youtseys, book citations, and genealogical reports. The genealogical reports cover three generations of Johann Peter "Peter" Youtsey descendants, with source citations. This compilation is the result of over forty years of research by the author who collected everything with the Youtsey name and its many variants. Multiple lines have been identified and are located in the appendices. An Index to Genealogical Reports, an Index to Story, maps, facsimile reprints of original documents, a wealth of photographs, and numerous data-filled tables add to the value of this work. This book contains a CD-Rom: The Descendants of Johann Peter Youtsey and Other Families with Similar Surname Spellings (959 pages), which includes genealogies for five distinct families, complete with source citations and a full-name index. Genealogies include: Descendants of Johann Peter "Peter" Youtsey (nine generations), Descendants of Jacob Youtsey / Jutzy (seven generations), Descendants of Peter Youtsey / Youtcey / Youtzy (five generations), Descendants of Jacob Youtsey / Yeutze (five generations), Descendants of Lewis Youtzy / Youtsey (six generations). Allied family surnames include: Beckenbaugh, Brandenburg, Bristow, Culbertson, Derr, Hendricks, Iseminger / Ensminger, Main, Stevens, Sweany, Tinder, Turpin, Weil / Wile, and Yaste.

Book The Way We Never Were

Download or read book The Way We Never Were written by Stephanie Coontz and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pessimists' view is that the U.S. family is collapsing; on the other hand, optimists view it is as merely diversifying. Too often, both camps begin with an ahistorical, static notion of what the family was like before the contemporary period. Noting that the actual complexity of our history gets buried under the weight of an idealized image, this book exposes as myths many "memories" of traditional family life, showing that families have always been in flux and often in crises; they have never lived up to nostalgic notions about "the way things used to be." The book's chapters are: (1) "The Way We Wish We Were: Defining the Family Crisis"; (2) "'Leave It to Beaver' and 'Ozzie and Harriet': American Families in the 1950s"; (3) "'My Mother Was a Saint': Individualism, Gender Myths, and the Problem of Love"; (4) "We Always Stood on Our Own Two Feet: Self-Reliance and the American Family"; (5) "Strong Families, the Foundation of a Virtuous Society: Family Values and Civic Responsibility"; (6) "a Man's Home Is His Castle: The Family and Outside Intervention"; (7) "Bra-Burners and Family Bashers: Feminism, Working Women, Consumerism, and the Family"; (8) "'First Comes Love, Then Comes Marriage, Then Comes Mary with the Baby Carriage': Marriage, Sex, and Reproduction"; (9) "Toxic Parents, Supermoms, and Absent Fathers: Putting Parenting in Perspective"; (10) "Pregnant Girls, Wilding Boys, Crack Babies, and the Underclass: The Myth of Black Family Collapse"; and (11) "The Crisis Reconsidered." The book's epilogue, "Inventing a New Tradition," suggests that the best thing families can do, however "family" is defined, is to get involved in community or political action to help others. The book contains extensive references for each chapter and a select bibliography. (Hth).
