Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nursing is a healthcare job which deals with the care of individuals, families, and communities so that they can achieve, maintain, or gain good health and quality of life throughout their lives. Nurses work in various specialties where they either work independently or they work as a part of a team which evaluates care and plans the line of treatment for the patient along with the doctor and implements the same. The word "Nurse" was used after the thirteenth century and it originated from the Latin word 'to nurse'. It is evident from the translations of non-English work before early 1900's that the term 'nurse' was used with reference to male health care providers.

Book Re Imagining the End of Life

Download or read book Re Imagining the End of Life written by Janet Booth and published by . This book was released on 2019-04-18 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does it mean to be prepared for the last part of our lives? One of the many lessons author and end-of-life nurse coach Janet Booth learned at the bedside of dying people is how painful it is to come unprepared to the end of life, whether it is our own or that of our loved ones. Much of the suffering we experience seems to come from our unfamiliarity with the journey at end of life and our not knowing how to prepare for it. So there is a need for a different kind of conversation about serious illness and dying in our country. Nurses are trusted professionals who are present with people through all of life's transitions. How might they take more leadership in these conversations? The purpose of this handbook is to provide nurses, coaches, and other health care professionals with opportunities for reflection and inspiration in their work. As nurses and health care professionals, many of us have seen firsthand that the process of navigating serious illness and death within our complex health care system is often confusing, isolating, crisis-driven, and dis-heartening.What outcomes might be possible if instead: * we reimagined the end of life as a vital, purposeful stage of human development? * practices of healing - forgiveness, gratitude, and letting go - became essential parts of our care plans? * wisdom instead of fear informed our challenging decision points? * we prepared for death in order to live more fully the time that we have? * the hard work of caregiving was sustainable and meaningful for both family and professional caregivers? In this book you will find fresh ideas, tools, and reflective practices that encourage you to explore your personal beliefs and values about aging, advanced illness, and dying. It is intended to inspire you to reimagine the end of life as a vital part of how we become fully human - a time of life that holds value, meaning, and purpose.

Book The Effectiveness of Yoga in Preventing and Managing Back Pain

Download or read book The Effectiveness of Yoga in Preventing and Managing Back Pain written by Sonja M. Brockman and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this Doctorate of Nursing Practice-Family Nurse Practitioner (DNP-FNP) scholarly project, a yoga program was developed and implemented to educate how the practice of yoga can utilized to manage and prevent back pain in nurses. Back pain in nurses is a common condition that can cause nurses to become unable to work and ultimately affect the nursing work unit. The practice of yoga has gained popularity in Western culture for improving health and back pain. A review of the recent research literature from 2000-2015 that investigated back pain in nurses, back pain management, treatment, and yoga, is provided to determine if yoga could be utilized as an effective modality for back pain management. Jean Watson’s Human Caring Society theory of nursing was the theoretical framework used to help guide the exploration of this topic. Seven of the eight DNP Essentials set forth by the AACN were directly fulfilled through this project and are explained. The implications and importance of this project has for the clinical work of an Integrated Nurse Practitioner are provided.

Book YOGA FOR STRESS REDUCTION IN NURSING STUDENTS

Download or read book YOGA FOR STRESS REDUCTION IN NURSING STUDENTS written by Terry Gustas and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Undergraduate nursing students are under vast amounts of stress to adapt to the substantial workload while learning patient care. A lack of stress reduction tools in the nursing curriculum leaves these students at risk for stress related outcomes. In the past, research has addressed the effects of stress on health care providers, but little has been specific to nursing students. The rising popularity of yoga is an opportunity to offer such a tool to address stress in nursing students. Using YouTube as an avenue to provide yoga classes designed for stress reduction in nursing students is accessible for most of this population. This study was conducted to explore the hypothesis of using YouTube yoga videos to address stress reduction before and after participating over a two-week period. A review of related literature was examined and Tsai’s theory was the theoretical framework applied to the stress nursing students experience as they take on the new role of caregiver. A descriptive design was used to compare data collected.

Book Yoga s Influence on Nursing Students Randomized Study

Download or read book Yoga s Influence on Nursing Students Randomized Study written by Mathad Monali . D. and published by . This book was released on 2023-12-11 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a groundbreaking randomized study conducted among nursing students, the profound impact of yoga on their overall well-being, stress levels, and academic performance was meticulously examined. The research, designed to assess the potential benefits of integrating yoga into the demanding curriculum of nursing education, sought to provide empirical evidence on the effectiveness of yoga as a holistic approach to supporting the mental and physical health of future healthcare professionals. The study, conducted over a period of six months, involved a diverse group of nursing students randomly assigned to either a yoga intervention group or a control group that did not participate in any structured yoga activities. The yoga intervention comprised regular sessions incorporating a blend of physical postures, breath control exercises, and mindfulness techniques. The control group, on the other hand, continued with their standard academic routine without any additional interventions. Throughout the study, participants' stress levels were assessed using standardized measures, and academic performance was tracked through grades and self-reported data. The results unveiled a compelling narrative of the positive influence of yoga on nursing students. Those engaged in the yoga intervention reported a significant reduction in stress levels compared to their counterparts in the control group. The practice of yoga not only served as a physical outlet but also emerged as a potent tool for cultivating mindfulness and resilience in the face of the rigorous demands of nursing education. Furthermore, the impact of yoga on academic performance was a notable revelation. Students who participated in regular yoga sessions exhibited improved concentration, heightened cognitive abilities, and a greater capacity to manage the multifaceted challenges inherent in their academic pursuits. The integration of yoga into the curriculum thus emerged as a potential strategy to enhance the overall educational experience for nursing students. Beyond the quantitative data, qualitative findings from the study provided rich insights into the subjective experiences of nursing students practicing yoga. Participants reported a heightened sense of self-awareness, improved emotional regulation, and a greater ability to cope with the emotional demands of their future profession. The cultivation of a mind-body connection through yoga was identified as a valuable asset in fostering not only personal well-being but also a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness between mental and physical health-an essential perspective for healthcare professionals.
