Book Mapping a New Museum

    Book Details:
  • Author : Laura Osorio Sunnucks
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2021-12-20
  • ISBN : 1000412512
  • Pages : 363 pages

Download or read book Mapping a New Museum written by Laura Osorio Sunnucks and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-12-20 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mapping a New Museum seeks to rethink the museum’s role in today’s politically conscious world. Presenting a selection of innovative projects that have taken place in Latin America over the last year, the book begins to map out possibilities for the future of the global museum. The projects featured within the pages of this book were all supported by The Santo Domingo Centre of Excellence for Latin American Research (SDCELAR) at the British Museum (BM), with the aim of making the BM’s Latin American collections meaningful to communities in the region and others worldwide. These projects illustrate how communities manage cultural heritage and, taken together, they suggest that there is also no all-encompassing counter-narrative that can be used to "decolonise" museums. Reflecting on, and experimenting with, the ways that research happens within museum collections, the interdisciplinary collaborations described within these pages have used collections to tell stories that destabilise societal assumptions, whilst also proactively seeking out that which has historically been overlooked. The result is, the book argues, a research environment that challenges intellectual orthodoxy and values critical and alternative forms of knowledge. Mapping a New Museum contains English and Spanish versions of every chapter, which enables the book to put critical stress on the self-referentiality of Anglophone literature in the field of museum anthropology. The book will be essential reading for students, scholars and museum practitioners working around the world.

Book Romance Linguistics 2008

Download or read book Romance Linguistics 2008 written by Karlos Arregi and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2010-09-09 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sixteen papers here united have been selected from the 38th Linguistic Symposium of the Romance Languages held in Champaign-Urbana in 2008. The papers, whose authors include both well-known researchers and younger scholars, cover a broad and truly interdisciplinary range of topics in phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and their interfaces. Among the plethora of topics examined are stress in Quebec French, vowel deletion in Tuscan Italian, bare singulars in Brazilian Portuguese, case in Romanian, and hiatus in Argentine Spanish. The volume’s novelty is to extend the traditional scope of linguistic inquiry to dynamic cognitive and societal connections between Romance and other languages, investigating, among others, how Spanish phonotactics informs psycholinguistic models of speech production, how bilinguals express subject pronouns in Chipilo contact Spanish relative to monolingual Mexican Spanish, and whether Spanish-speaking immigrants in Montreal acquire the constraints typical to natives in loanword adaptations.

Book El Cuerpo un Espacio Pedag Gico

Download or read book El Cuerpo un Espacio Pedag Gico written by Norma Delia Dur N. Amavizca and published by Palibrio. This book was released on 2012-07 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Women Making Meaning

Download or read book Women Making Meaning written by Lana F. Rakow and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-10-23 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1992. This book captures the dynamic confluence of feminist and communication scholarship by setting out some of the provocative questions that mark this intersection. Several of the essays in the book are theoretical in nature, and consider the changing complexion of the field in view of this cross-fertilization; other contributors tackle those individual forms of communication that pose certain challenges for women such as verbal harassment and pornography. The final section of the book, more ethnographic in nature, presents a number of case studies, written primarily by women of colour, which recount the various ways that communication forms such as television, journalism and spoken discourse construct and perpetuate racist and sexist stereotypes.

Book Dibs en busca del s mismo

Download or read book Dibs en busca del s mismo written by Virginia M. Axline and published by Universitat de València. This book was released on 2014-09-04 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Discourses of Identity in Liminal Places and Spaces

Download or read book Discourses of Identity in Liminal Places and Spaces written by Roberta Piazza and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-01-15 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection highlights the interplay between language and liminal places and spaces in building distinct narratives of selfhood. The book uses an interdisciplinary approach to examine linguistic and social phenomena in places shaped by displacement and social inequality. The book also looks at chronotopes, the Bakhtinian-inspired concept of the interconnectedness of time and space in identity. The volume demonstrates how studying liminal places and spaces can offer unique insights into how people construct language and selfhood in these spaces, making this key reading for researchers in sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, geography, and linguistic anthropology.
