Book A Modified Stand Table Projection Model for Unthinned Loblolly Pine Pinus Taeda L and Slash Pine Pinus Elliotti Plantations in East Texas

Download or read book A Modified Stand Table Projection Model for Unthinned Loblolly Pine Pinus Taeda L and Slash Pine Pinus Elliotti Plantations in East Texas written by Mickey G. Allen (II.) and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A modified stand table projection model to project future trees per acre by diameter class was developed for unmanaged loblolly and slash pine plantations in east Texas. Whole-stand models for future basal area, dominant height, and trees per acre were also developed for use in the modified stand table projection model. This model was compared to the stand table projection models of Nepal and Somers (1992), Borders et al. (2004), Cao and Baldwin (1999) and Cao (2007) for loblolly pine. Since Borders et al. (2004) did not study slash pine no comparisons were made against the Borders et al. (2004) model for slash pine. For the two species, all models were evaluated with independent observed data from the East Texas Pine Plantation Research Project. The model developed in this study provided comparable results to the models of Nepal and Somers (1992) and Cao and Baldwin (1999) for loblolly and slash pine.

Book Forest Measurements

Download or read book Forest Measurements written by Thomas Eugene Avery and published by Waveland Press. This book was released on 2015-05-18 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Continuing a tradition of excellence spanning over forty years, the Fifth Edition of Forest Measurements supplies forestry students at all levels with the concepts and methods they need for future success. The authors present timber measurement techniques applicable to any tree inventory regardless of management objectives. Assuming only some background in algebra and plane trigonometry, basic statistical concepts are included, ensuring that even introductory students benefit from the book’s concise explanations. Thorough coverage of sampling designs, land measurements, tree measurements, forest inventory field methods, and growth projections ensures utility for foresters throughout their education and beyond. Chapters on aerial photographs and GIS introduce readers to these powerful measurement tools, and the concluding chapter expands the techniques discussed to encompass other natural resources such as rangelands, wildlife, and water. Exceptionally readable and clear, the book includes many photographs and illustrations, numerous numerical examples, and a bibliography to enhance the reader’s understanding of the material.

Book Modeling Forest Trees and Stands

Download or read book Modeling Forest Trees and Stands written by Harold E. Burkhart and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-04-27 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing upon a wealth of past research and results, this book provides a comprehensive summary of state-of-the-art methods for empirical modeling of forest trees and stands. It opens by describing methods for quantifying individual trees, progresses to a thorough coverage of whole-stand, size-class and individual-tree approaches for modeling forest stand dynamics, growth and yield, moves on to methods for incorporating response to silvicultural treatments and wood quality characteristics in forest growth and yield models, and concludes with a discussion on evaluating and implementing growth and yield models. Ideal for use in graduate-level forestry courses, this book also provides ready access to a plethora of reference material for researchers working in growth and yield modeling.

Book Forest Measurements

Download or read book Forest Measurements written by Harold E. Burkhart and published by Waveland Press. This book was released on 2018-08-13 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Harold Burkhart and Bronson Bullock have updated the quintessential introduction to forest measurements, providing a new generation of forestry students at all levels with the concepts and methods they need for career success. With attention to detail and clear, precise language, the authors present timber measurement techniques applicable to any tree inventory regardless of management objectives. Assuming no more mathematical background than algebra and plane trigonometry, the authors begin with basic statistical concepts to ensure that even introductory students benefit from the book’s concise explanations. Comprehensive coverage of sampling designs, land measurements, tree measurements, forest inventory field methods, and growth projections assures utility for foresters throughout their education and beyond. The new edition includes expanded discussions of information technology and geospatial information systems commonly employed in assessing forest resources. Recognizing the needs of contemporary forest inventories and models, a new chapter on assessing forest carbon builds on the foundations of traditional forest measurements, sampling, and modeling. Abundant photographs and illustrations highlight and clarify important concepts, while many numerical examples allow readers to become comfortable with the quantitative tools employed by foresters.
