I'm here to tell you that you are never alone. We tend to think that sometimes, nobody cares or nobody is with us, but God is always with us, and he gave us the mental and physical will to always carry on no matter what. Guardian angels are always there to help us through whatever downfalls we may experience, caring for us and lifting us up, and we must always be grateful and thankful for them. If you believe, they will help get you through it. I have been extremely fortunate to not only have a loving wife to pray for me every time something bad has happened to me, but also to have those guardian angels by my side. I hope that this book will portray the existence of them and the loving ways they have always been there for me. They will be there for you as well. Just believe.

Book A Companion to Under the Volcano

Download or read book A Companion to Under the Volcano written by Lawrence J. Clipper and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 2011-11-01 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An item-by-item discussion of the innumerable, often obscure details of Malcolm Lowry's novel, this book comprises 1,600 notes covering some 7,000 specific points. The notes are keyed to page numbers in the Penguin paperback and the two standard hardback editions. The appendices include a glossary, bibliography, maps of the region, and an index of motifs. In their comprehensive but unpedantic commentary on the novel's complexities, the authors' emphasis is on the narrative level. All points of obscurity are followed by an interpretation of fact. Thus references are noted to films, books, places, foreign languages, and national and tribal histories. Special attention is given to the literary, mystical, and Mexican background.

Book excerpt: Lord Jim was first published as a serial in Blackwood’s Magazine between October 1899 and November 1900. The first edition of the complete book was published by William Blackwood and Sons in 1900. The story begins when the young British seaman Jim, one of the crew of the steamer Patna, abandons the ship while it’s in distress. The resulting censure prevents Jim from finding stable employment, until a captain named Marlow suggests he find his future in Patusan, a small village on a remote island in the South Seas. There he’s able to earn the respect of the islanders and is dubbed “Lord Jim.” The abandoning of the Patna by its crew is said to have been based on the real-life abandoning of the S.S. Jeddah in 1880. Lord Jim explores issues of colonialism, dreams of heroism, guilt, failure, and redemption. The book is remarkable for its unusual nested narrative structure, in which Captain Marlow and a number of other characters provide multiple perspectives of the protagonist. The gradual build-up of their richly described viewpoints imparts glimpses of Jim’s inner life, yet ultimately leaves him unknowable. This book is part of the Standard Ebooks project, which produces free public domain ebooks.
