Book The Weekend Angler s Guide to Good Fishing

Download or read book The Weekend Angler s Guide to Good Fishing written by Keith Bartlett and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2011-07-19 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Weekend Angler's Guide to Good Fishing provides recreational anglers with the knowledge and instruction they need to enjoy a greater level of fishing success. This book was written for those who have some experience and know much of the terminology used to describe equipment, conditions, and other intricacies of fishing. It may not be the best resource for people who have never fished. If you don't know the difference between a spinning and baitcasting rod and reel, or the difference between monofilament and braided lines, you may struggle with some of the information provided in this book. But most of what you will read is basic information and useful knowledge for recreational anglers of all skill levels. The author provides guidance on finding productive places to fish, and choosing the best times to fish, for many of North America's most popular gamefish. Readers will also learn to select tackle, lures, and other equipment with an eye on expense, quality and performance. Advice is provided on how to find good fishing where the outdoor experience is less affected by competition from other anglers or poor conditions. And for those who have family members they would like to introduce to the sport, there are tips on how to teach a child or loved one to fish. For the advanced angler, a chapter on trophy fishing is included. References to the lighter side of fishing emphasize key points, make readers feel they are sharing in the experience described, and include enough humor to entertain those who enjoy reading about fishing as much as they enjoy doing it. The author provides guidance and information, but also entertains so the learning experience is enjoyable. All chapters are written in easy-to-understand language that includes pictures, charts, or diagrams to heighten interest and simplify understanding. Fishing is not a sport limited to highly trained athletes, to the rich, or to the experienced. Few sports offer an equal opportunity for success to men, women, and children of all ages and backgrounds. Whether you fish a few times a year, or whenever you can slip away, The Weekend Angler's Guide to Good Fishing will provide you the guidance and information needed to help you enjoy a greater level of angling success.

Book excerpt: THAT PARTICULAR PLAN This offbeat comedy exposes the eccentric behavior of Godfrey Chambers, wealthy manufacturing industrialist, Lydia, his wacky nymphomaniac wife, Evelyn, their estranged daughter who communicates with baboons, and the spurned butler, Carl. Godfrey and Carl place an ad in a London newspaper arranging to meet with Scott Sprinter, an American studying abroad who carried out a break in at the Chambers' home. Since the event had a profound effect on Lydia, Godfrey hopes that bribery will prompt Sprinter to assist him in committing his wife to an asylum. Throughout the play, the American, who wants the money but has no idea what is expected of him, finds himself trapped in a situation where the quirky characters around him struggle to make choices and decisions based on absurd judgment. DISCLOSURE AT BENTWELL MANOR The scene of this farce is Bentwell Manor, home of Lady Bentwell, son Bradley, and their staff. Horrified by the social implications of her son marrying the actress and perceived gold digger Clarice Changely, Lady Bentwell hires her former lover, the Inspector, to delve into Clarice's past. She must act quickly, not only to foil the engagement, but also to prevent anyone from learning the truth about her own past. Meanwhile, the reader is treated to the high jinks of the maid, Gertrude, who constantly runs off to be a punk rock groupie, and Bridget the cook, who has decided on a novel way to commit suicide in order to get back at Lady Bentwell for refusing her a decent reference, thereby thwarting her plans to leave Bentwell Manor for good.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few states can offer the angling diversity that New Jersey can, which is why Tom Gilmore and Wilderness Adventures Press bring you the brand-new Flyfisher's Guide to New Jersey. New Jersey’s Highlands are reminiscent of New England, and its fall foliage rivals that of Vermont and New Hampshire. Its glacial lakes provide year-round fishing for salmonid species like rainbow, brown, and lake trout and even landlocked salmon. The freestone trout streams found in New Jersey’s Ridge and Valley physiographic province rival those found in the nearby Pocono and Catskills Mountains, and it even has a smattering of limestone spring creeks. The state's Pinelands harbor countless bass and pickerel lakes as well as crappies. New Jersey also has 127 miles of ocean-front beaches with ample public access. Its back bays, estuaries and tidal wetlands serve as nurseries for its many saltwater gamefish. Inshore and offshore opportunities for tuna, bluefish, marlin and more are also covered. Gilmore's 50-plus years of first-hand fishing knowledge guides readers as to where, when and how to catch over 30 species of gamefish. Over 200 freshwater and saltwater locations are covered in this guide, alongside dozens of detailed maps with GPS coordinates for access points, public and private lands, boat ramps, campgrounds, access roads and more. Flyfisher’s Guide to New Jersey is a must read for every fisherman (not just flyfisherman) who lives in or plans to visit New Jersey. Yes, you can flyfish in New Jersey. Learn all about it with the Flyfisher's Guide to New Jersey.

Book The Philosophical Fisherman

Download or read book The Philosophical Fisherman written by Harold Blaisdell and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2015-08-04 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “My favorite book on fishing—a classic from one of my favorite writers.” —John Randolph, former editor, Fly Fisherman Earthy and philosophical, practical yet speculative—this book is a wonderful and enduring portrait of a fisherman’s temperament. Full of the late Harold F. Blaisdell’s infectious humanity and wisdom, The Philosophical Fisherman, long out of print, is a classic. Blaisdell is always independent and original in his thinking. He refutes the widely held theory that game fish attack artificial lures because they believe them to be baitfish. He argues that fish do not fear leaders per se, but become alarmed only if the leader results in the unnatural movement of the bait or lure. He debunks the vaunted effectiveness of the artificial nymph, explores the best methods of wet and dry-fly fishing, and tests his theories against such gamefish as trout, smallmouth bass, landlocked salmon, walleyes, and northern pike. There is something here for everyone who fishes—including a persuasive argument that the average angler anywhere in the country can invariably find superb fishing with in hour’s drive of his home. Skyhorse Publishing is proud to publish a broad range of books for fishermen. Our books for anglers include titles that focus on fly fishing, bait fishing, fly-casting, spin casting, deep sea fishing, and surf fishing. Our books offer both practical advice on tackle, techniques, knots, and more, as well as lyrical prose on fishing for bass, trout, salmon, crappie, baitfish, catfish, and more. While not every title we publish becomes a New York Times bestseller or a national bestseller, we are committed to publishing books on subjects that are sometimes overlooked by other publishers and to authors whose work might not otherwise find a home.
