Book Formation of Gold Deposits

Download or read book Formation of Gold Deposits written by Neil Phillips and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-16 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the origin of gold deposits to answer questions of science and curiosity. These answers contribute in turn to the improved exploration and mining of gold. Initially there is a summary of the methods used to address the genesis of gold deposits including some of the essential science and concepts. Five basic observations follow that apply to many gold deposits and need to be considered in any genetic ideas. Magmatic processes enriching gold are discussed followed by the role of aqueous fluids during gold deposit formation at elevated temperatures and pressures. Modifying effects after deposit formation include high-grade metamorphism, retrogression, weathering, and erosion. The main types of gold deposits are then explained within the spectrum of viable genetic ideas, with informal names for these examples that include gold-only, gold-plus, Carlin, slate-belt, epithermal, porphyry, iron oxide copper gold, and Archean greenstone. Case histories are included in which the role of gold geology contributed directly to discoveries—one example is at the province-scale and another at the goldfield-scale. Unlike other books on the subject, this one addresses virtually all gold deposit types rather than focusing on one type in isolation. The primary readership includes industry geologists, senior undergraduates, postgraduates, and those with some knowledge of science and an interest in the gold industry.

Book Indirect Exploration for Ore Deposits in Weathered Terrains with Airborne Gravity Gradiometry

Download or read book Indirect Exploration for Ore Deposits in Weathered Terrains with Airborne Gravity Gradiometry written by Bahman Bayat and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Given that the direct detection of mineralisation is not practical, an investigation was conducted to determine if preferential weathering occurs over mineralised zones, and would it provide a viable means to explore for orebodies. There is considerable evidence for preferential weathering over mineralisation; for instance, a regolith study of approximately 100,000 drill holes from the Yandal Greenstone Belt in Western Australia, concluded that, on average, weathering is 30 meters deeper in areas of high grade gold mineralisation. To investigate this hypothesis, samples were collected for physical measurement and compared to published petrophysical data, and this data combined with realistic geological models of five gold deposits in Westem Australia to produce modelled gravity gradient responses. In nearly every case the alteration associated with the gold mineralisation causes a deeper weathering profile that produces a detectable gravity gradient response over the mineralised area. Thus, I have demonstrated a means of interpreting AGG data to find gold deposits in areas normally considered unsuitable for AGG. Therefore, I suggest that AGG data should be collected and examined along potential gold bearing structures for negative AGG anomalies due to preferential weathering on these structures as this appears to be a better strategy than analysing basement units alone.

Book Regolith landscape Evolution and Geochemical Dispersion about the Bronzewing Gold Deposit W A

Download or read book Regolith landscape Evolution and Geochemical Dispersion about the Bronzewing Gold Deposit W A written by Z. S. Varga and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bronzewing deposit is in the Archaean Yandal Greenstone Belt. Gold mineralisation occurs within a sequence of mafic volcanics and minor sediments, which are intruded by felsic porphyries. The mineralisation is ass. with a dense stockwork of quartz veining, and alteration of the host sequence, and is accompanied by pyrite, pyrrhotite and minor chalcopyrite and scheelite. Gold, W and Cu are the most significant indicators in mineralised bedrock. Regolith Regolith-landform relationships over the 1000 km2, centred on the Bronzewing deposit, were mapped at 1:50 000.This was based on interpretation of aerial photography, image enhanced Landsat TM images and field traverses. Bronzewing Au deposit was covered by a blanket of soil and colluvium. Mapping regolith relationships and distributions using drilling and pit faces, has revealed the details of the sub-surface regolith and palaeolandscape, from which the weathering history and likely origins of anomalies in the residuum and transported cover can be deduced.

Book Greenstone Belts

    Book Details:
  • Author : Maarten J. De Wit

  • Release : 1997
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 848 pages

Download or read book Greenstone Belts written by Maarten J. De Wit and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1997 with total page 848 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first comprehensive compilation of data and ideas relating to the origin, evolution, and significance of the world's greenstone belts, and includes contributions from over 100 experts. In the first of two parts, reviews are presented on broad topics relating to the geology of greenstone belts and their surroundings, covering mainly post-1980 research. These include: historical, sedimentologic, volcanic, structural, metamorphic, metallogenic, and thermal aspects; summaries of mafic/ultramafic magnetism, strain, fluids, geophysics and deep structures; relations with associated granitoids, tectonic evolution, and geochronology; and field relationships. The second part takes a more focused look at the geology of specific cratons and individual greenstone belts worldwide, including Archaean, Proterozoic, and Phanerozoic examples. Detailed geologic maps on large and small scales, extensive tabulations of data, and short written summaries of the salient features are included for all belts. The book will be a valuable reference tool for academic and industrial researchers, students, explorationists, and anyone interested in the evolution of Earth processes over geologic time.
