Book EV Electric Vehicles Come Home

Download or read book EV Electric Vehicles Come Home written by Dale Stubbart and published by Dale Stubbart. This book was released on with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In my first book on Electric Cars, I covered those which were available in the US. In my new book, I decided to cover the world. I also venture into Electric Planes and EVTOLS - Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing machines. Even though EVs are very interesting, you might get bored after the 100th or so. To relieve your boredom, I inserted stories about my visits from a couple of outer space aliens who are very interested in Electric Cars. Who says you can't mix research books with sci-fi and humor? I start with the most popular EVs. I cover many parts of the globe. And I cover lesser known Electric cars. Some places around the world don't have good roads or the roads are too crowded. There, electric motorcycles, rickshaws, and other vehicles are more popular than electric cars. And did you know that there's an electric skateboard? Electric Cars come in several models - Sedans, SUVs, Crossovers, Hatchbacks, etc. There are even little electric bubble cars. And there's a Amphibious E-Tricycle Camper. Now is a good time to get into an EV - there's availability. You'll get good range. And you'll save money on gas and maintenance. Besides, bans on ICE vehicles (internal combustion engine - petrol powered cars) are coming. Maybe not tomorrow, but soon. And supermost of all, owning an EV is cool and the wave of the future. And you want to get into the action now because you want to ride the crest of the wave. Some people are still worried about - what happens if the battery dies. I cover that. Good news - not a problem. I also cover converting your car to an EV (or rather hiring someone to do that for you) and EV Rentals. I conclude the book with what it would take to own an EV Dealership, My EV choices, and statements by World Leaders on EVs. I evaluate the more popular cars and provide a blank evaluation form so you can make your own evaluations. This book is packed with information, but I keep it light so you won't get bored. Actually, that's not true. I kept it light so that I wouldn't get bored.

Book Tokyo Vice

Book excerpt: NOW A MAX ORIGINAL SERIES. A riveting true-life tale of newspaper noir and Japanese organized crime from an American investigative journalist who "pulls the curtain back on ... [an] element of Japanese society that few Westerners ever see" (San Francisco Examiner). Jake Adelstein is the only American journalist ever to have been admitted to the insular Tokyo Metropolitan Police Press Club, where for twelve years he covered the dark side of Japan: extortion, murder, human trafficking, fiscal corruption, and of course, the yakuza. But when his final scoop exposed a scandal that reverberated all the way from the neon soaked streets of Tokyo to the polished Halls of the FBI and resulted in a death threat for him and his family, Adelstein decided to step down. Then, he fought back. In Tokyo Vice he delivers an unprecedented look at Japanese culture and searing memoir about his rise from cub reporter to seasoned journalist with a price on his head.

Book Adventures of a Postmodern Historian

Download or read book Adventures of a Postmodern Historian written by Robert A. Rosenstone and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2016-09-22 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Robert Rosenstone was among the first 'postmodern' historians, and remains one of the most renowned. In this honest, revealing and often funny memoir, he shows us how he got there and why. Adventures of a Postmodern Historian chronicles Rosenstone's research journeys over half a century. Beginning in the 1960s, his offbeat trajectory took him on adventures through the police states of Franco Spain and the Soviet Union, to the Shinto shrines and Zen temples of Japan and ultimately to Hollywood. Alongside his own memoirs, Rosenstone reflects upon developments and changes within the realm of professional history, which in turn reflect the social, cultural, and intellectual shifts of the late 20th century. A pioneer of experimental and creative history, he suggests how the experience of the historian can inflect the written history, and provides a defence of innovation in historical writing that is both intellectually rigorous and entertaining. In doing so he offers a window into the state of history today – and points to exciting new ways of writing the past. This is a book about the craft of history, about both doing research and writing it. It should be required reading for all historians.

Alex Thorn, an American psychologist, is mourning his son, a Shizuyama exchange student who was killed in an accident. (No one will tell him exactly how.) Alex has come to this utterly foreign place to find the truth, and now Gaby is serving as his translator and guide. The key to mastering Japanese, she keeps telling him, is understanding what's not being said. And in this "deft and delightful" (Karen Joy Fowler) novel, the unsaid truths about everything from work and love to illness and death cast a deafening silence-and tower in the background like Mount Fuji itself.

Book Happy Days

  • Author : Benjamin L. Alpers
  • Publisher : Rutgers University Press
  • Release : 2024-01-12
  • ISBN : 1978830556
  • Pages : 147 pages

Download or read book Happy Days written by Benjamin L. Alpers and published by Rutgers University Press. This book was released on 2024-01-12 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After the techno-futurism of the 1950s and the utopian 1960s vision of a “great society,” the 1970s saw Americans turning to the past as a source for both nostalgic escapism and serious reflection on the nation’s history. While some popular works like Grease presented the relatively recent past as a more innocent time, far away from the nation’s post-Vietnam, post-Watergate malaise, others like Roots used America’s bicentennial as an occasion for deep soul-searching. Happy Days investigates how 1970s popular culture was obsessed with America’s past but often offered radically different interpretations of the same historical events and icons. Even the figure of the greaser, once an icon of juvenile delinquency, was made family-friendly by Henry Winkler’s Fonzie at the same time that he was being appropriated in more threatening ways by punk and gay subcultures. The cultural historian Benjamin Alpers discovers similar levels of ambivalence toward the past in 1970s neo-noir films, representations of America’s founding, and neo-slave narratives by Alex Haley and Octavia Butler. By exploring how Americans used the 1970s to construct divergent representations of their shared history, he identifies it as a pivotal moment in the nation’s ideological fracturing.

Book Modern Korean Drama

    Book Details:
  • Author : Richard Nichols
  • Publisher : Columbia University Press
  • Release : 2011
  • ISBN : 0231149476
  • Pages : 350 pages

Download or read book Modern Korean Drama written by Richard Nichols and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2011 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Carefully selected and represented, the plays in this collection showcase both the fantastic and the realistic innovations of Korean dramatists during a time of rapid social and historical change. Stretching from 1962 to 2004, these seven works tackle major subjects, such as the close of the Choson dynasty and the aftermath of the Korean War, while delving into trenchant cultural issues, such as the marginalization of students who rebel against mainstream education and the role of traditional values in a materialistic society. Longtime scholar of Korea and its vibrant, politically acute theater, Richard Nichols opens with a general overview of modern Korean drama since 1910 and concludes with an appendix describing theater production and audience attendance in Seoul. He chooses works that aren't just for Korean audiences. These texts confront universal themes and situations, tackling the problem of ambition, the trouble with fidelity, and the complexity of sexual and interpersonal relationships. Nichols situates each work critically, historically, and culturally, including brief biographies of playwrights and extensive notes. A bibliography also provides alternative readings and the titles of additional plays currently available in English. Primed for production, these skillful translations provide Western directors with exciting new material for the stage. At the same time, they offer students and scholars a sophisticated survey of the modern Korean dramatic tradition.

Then he hears the rumors. Apparently, ghosts haunt his dream hotel—ghosts that make noise and bother customers. But the ghosts aren't the only problem. Mystery surrounds the hotel, too, as Johnny discovers reports of people who have gone missing from inside the hotel. Is there something supernatural haunting Johnny's guests ... or is it something much more human? Prostitution, gambling, and drugs run rampant on the island, due to the influences of the odious gang known as the Japanese Yakuza, and also by a Chinese Tong and several local criminal types. They may have something to do with the murders at the hotel. Johnny calls in reinforcements—a private investigator, a retired Los Angeles Sheriff 's sergeant, and even an FBI agent. Together, they might be able to solve the mysteries. Johnny can't help but make time for love. The hotel's attorney, Jan Nan, has caught his attention. She's pretty, ambitious, and focused—more so on her job than on a relationship. Johnny doesn't give up easily, though. He is committed to solving the mysteries and stopping the violence at his hotel. Most importantly, he is determined to eliminate the gangs and save the island paradise he calls home.

Daniel Silberberg’s first book is a unique contribution to contemporary American Zen, which honors its historic roots and yet strikes out into fresh areas. Daniel Silberberg’s take on a variety of Buddhist ideas and concepts are immediately useful and relevant. The reader will find that it addresses directly some of the issues they are dealing with in their own practice. The author’s insights and experiences come from his experience leading a large Zen community and from his almost thirty years of Zen Training in the lineage of the highly revered teachers Genpo Roshi and Maezumi Roshi.
