Book Luxury Yacht Interiors 1870 1920 as a Reflection of Gilded Age Social Status

Download or read book Luxury Yacht Interiors 1870 1920 as a Reflection of Gilded Age Social Status written by M. Lynn Barnes and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: This dissertation is based on six leading families in the United States, their mansions and their yachts. They experienced status through consumption of luxury goods, especially in decorating their homes. The thesis of this study is that it appears that yacht owners borrowed interior design ideas of their homes to decorate the interiors of their yachts. Their purpose was to enhance and maintain a presentation of status while at sea. It is assumed that yacht interiors from 1870 to 1920 were an extension of house interiors, reflecting the owner's status, specifically in the use of textiles.

Book Upgrading Your Boat s Interior

Download or read book Upgrading Your Boat s Interior written by Mike Westin and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2013-04-12 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second in a series of highly practical, hands-on, step-by-step photographic manuals, Upgrading Your Boat's Interior fills a gap in the market for the DIY boat builder and repairer. It is a subject covered only in piecemeal fashion by the yachting press, which, like general boat maintenance and repair manuals, can't go into the level of detail Mike Westin does. This is a visual, hand-holding guide, dwelling on the practical details of upgrading every aspect of a tired boat's interior and related systems as it explains each procedure rather than focussing on the theory (which is relegated to an appendix, for those who wish to go further). It's surprising how a few simple renovations and upgrades can transform the look and comfort of a cabin. Anyone planning to attempt these projects will find this photographic step-by-step book a hand-holding godsend.

Book Multidisciplinary Aspects of Design

Download or read book Multidisciplinary Aspects of Design written by Francesca Zanella and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-12-30 with total page 784 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book gathers the contributions from the Design! OPEN International Conference, held in Parma, Italy in May 2022. The conference explored the multidisciplinary aspects of design starting from its dimensions: objects (design as focused on the object, on its functional and symbolic dimension, and at the same time on the object as a tool for representing cultures), processes (the designer’s self-reflective moment which is focused on the analysis and on the definition of processes in various contexts, spanning innovation, social engagement, reflection on emergencies or forecasting), experiences (design as a theoretical and practical strategy aimed at facilitating experiential interactions among people, people and objects or environments), and narratives (making history, representing through different media, archiving, narrating, and exhibiting design). The contributions, which were selected by means of a rigorous international peer-review process, highlight numerous exciting ideas that will spur novel research directions and foster multidisciplinary collaboration among different specialists.
