  • ISBN : 9780821871232
  • Pages : 380 pages

Download or read book Algebraic K theory written by Victor Percy Snaith and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1997-01-01 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The conference proceedings volume is produced in connection with the second Great Lakes K-theory Conference that was held at The Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences in March 1996. The volume is dedicated to the late Bob Thomason, one of the leading research mathematicians specializing in algebraic K-theory. In addition to research papers treated directly in the lectures at the conference, this volume contains the following: i) several timely articles inspired by those lectures (particularly by that of V. Voevodsky), ii) an extensive exposition by Steve Mitchell of Thomason's famous result concerning the relationship between algebraic K-theory and etale cohomology, iii) a definitive exposition by J-L. Colliot-Thelene, R. Hoobler, and B. Kahn (explaining and elaborating upon unpublished work of O. Gabber) of Bloch-Ogus-Gersten type resolutions in K-theory and algebraic geometry. This volume will be important both for researchers who want access to details of recent development in K-theory and also to graduate students and researchers seeking good advanced exposition.

Book Information Theory Applied To Space time Physics

Download or read book Information Theory Applied To Space time Physics written by Henning F Harmuth and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1993-01-31 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The success of Newton's mechanic, Maxwell's electrodynamic, Einstein's theories of relativity, and quantum mechanics is a strong argument for the space-time continuum. Nevertheless, doubts have been expressed about the use of a continuum in a science squarely based on observation and measurement. An exact science requires that qualitative arguments must be reduced to quantitative statements. The observability of a continuum can be reduced from qualitative arguments to quantitative statements by means of information theory.Information theory was developed during the last decades within electrical communications, but it is almost unknown in physics. The closest approach to information theory in physics is the calculus of propositions, which has been used in books on the frontier of quantum mechanics and the general theory of relativity. Principles of information theory are discussed in this book. The ability to think readily in terms of a finite number of discrete samples is developed over many years of using information theory and digital computers, just as the ability to think readily in terms of a continuum is developed by long use of differential calculus.

Book Linear Algebra over Commutative Rings

Download or read book Linear Algebra over Commutative Rings written by Bernard R. McDonald and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-11-26 with total page 563 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph arose from lectures at the University of Oklahoma on topics related to linear algebra over commutative rings. It provides an introduction of matrix theory over commutative rings. The monograph discusses the structure theory of a projective module.

Book Lambda rings

Download or read book Lambda rings written by and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2010 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book gives a self-contained introduction to the theory of lambda-rings and closely related topics, including Witt vectors, integer-valued polynomials, and binomial rings. Many of the purely algebraic results about lambda-rings presented in this book have never appeared in book form before. This book concludes with a chapter on open problems related to lambda-rings."-

Book Civil Wrongs and Justice in Private Law

Download or read book Civil Wrongs and Justice in Private Law written by Paul B. Miller and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2020 with total page 553 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Civil wrongs occupy a significant place in private law. They are particularly prominent in tort law, but equally have a place in contract law, property and intellectual property law, unjust enrichment, fiduciary law, and in equity more broadly. For example, some tort theorists maintain that tort law is best understood as a (or perhaps the) law of civil wrongs and some contract law theorists maintain that breach of contract is a civil wrong. Civil wrongs are also a preoccupation of leading general theories of private law, including corrective justice and civil recourse theories. According to these and other theories, the centrality of civil wrongs to civil liability shows that private law is fundamentally concerned with the expression and enforcement of norms of justice appropriate to interpersonal interaction and association. Others, sounding notes of caution or criticism, argue that a preoccupation with wrongs and remedies has meant neglect of other ways in which private law serves justice, and ways in which private law serves values other than justice. The present volume comprises original papers written by a wide variety of legal theorists and philosophers exploring the nature of civil wrongs, their place in private law, and their relationship to other forms of wrongdoing. It should be of broad interest to lawyers and legal theorists as well as moral and political theorists"--

Book Analytic Perturbation Theory and Its Applications

Download or read book Analytic Perturbation Theory and Its Applications written by Konstantin E. Avrachenkov and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2013-12-11 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematical models are often used to describe complex phenomena such as climate change dynamics, stock market fluctuations, and the Internet. These models typically depend on estimated values of key parameters that determine system behavior. Hence it is important to know what happens when these values are changed. The study of single-parameter deviations provides a natural starting point for this analysis in many special settings in the sciences, engineering, and economics. The difference between the actual and nominal values of the perturbation parameter is small but unknown, and it is important to understand the asymptotic behavior of the system as the perturbation tends to zero. This is particularly true in applications with an apparent discontinuity in the limiting behavior?the so-called singularly perturbed problems. Analytic Perturbation Theory and Its Applications includes a comprehensive treatment of analytic perturbations of matrices, linear operators, and polynomial systems, particularly the singular perturbation of inverses and generalized inverses. It also offers original applications in Markov chains, Markov decision processes, optimization, and applications to Google PageRank? and the Hamiltonian cycle problem as well as input retrieval in linear control systems and a problem section in every chapter to aid in course preparation.
