  • Pages : 554 pages

Download or read book Advances in X Ray Analysis written by Gavin R. Mallett and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 554 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The papers presented in this volume of Advances in X-Ray Analysis were chosen from those presented at the Fourteenth Annual Conference on the Applications of X-Ray Analysis. This conference, sponsored by the Metallurgy Division of the Denver Research Institute, University of Denver, was held on August 24,25, and 26, 1965, at the Albany Hotel in Denver, Colorado. Of the 56 papers presented at the conference, 46 are included in this volume; also included is an open discussion held on the effects of chemical com bination on X-ray spectra. The subjects presented represent a broad scope of applications of X-rays to a variety of fields and disciplines. These included such fields as electron-probe microanalysis, the effect of chemical combination on X-ray spectra, and the uses of soft and ultrasoft X-rays in emission analysis. Also included were sessions on X-ray diffraction and fluor escence analysis. There were several papers on special topics, including X-ray topography and X-ray absorption fine-structure analysis. William L. Baun contributed considerable effort toward the conference by organizing the session on the effect of chemical combination on X-ray spectra fine structure. A special session was established through the excellent efforts of S. P. Ong on the uses and applica tions of soft X-rays in fluorescent analysis. We offer our sincere thanks to these men, for these two special sessions contributed greatly to the success of the conference.

Book Modern Microscopies

    Book Details:
  • Author : P.J. Duke
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2013-11-11
  • ISBN : 1461314674
  • Pages : 281 pages

Download or read book Modern Microscopies written by P.J. Duke and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For several decades the electron microscope has been the instrument of choice for the examination of biological structures at high resolution. Biologists have be come familiar with the techniques and pitfalls of sample preparation and with the interpretation of the images obtained. The purpose of this book is to introduce the biologist to a number of new imaging techniques that are now becoming avail able to supplement and even extend the information that can be obtained from the now-traditional electron microscope. Some of these techniques are still at the experimental stage, while others, such as cryoelectron microscopy and confocal optical microscopy, are at advanced stages of development and are already avail able commercially. This book represents a first attempt to quantify the progress made by bring ing together, in one volume, an account of the technical bases and the future potentials of the various techniques. Although the content is primarily aimed at biologists, microscopists in other fields should also find the information of interest and use. All the chapters are written by leading experts who are at the forefront of these exciting developments. About half the book is concerned with x-ray microscopy; the editors make no apology for this since they are both intimately involved with developments associated with this field and therefore view it, perhaps with bias, as being of the utmost importance.

Book X rays in Atomic and Nuclear Physics

Download or read book X rays in Atomic and Nuclear Physics written by Norman Allen Dyson and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1990-03-22 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the methods of X-ray production at a level which is accessible to advanced undergraduates and researchers who use X-rays. It also discusses the fundamentals of these physical properties from an experimental viewpoint which is not covered in more specialised texts.

Book An Introduction to Classical Electromagnetic Radiation

Download or read book An Introduction to Classical Electromagnetic Radiation written by Glenn S. Smith and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1997-08-13 with total page 682 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a thorough description of classical electromagnetic radiation, starting from Maxwell's equations, and moving on to show how fundamental concepts are applied in a wide variety of examples from areas such as classical optics, antenna analysis, and electromagnetic scattering. Throughout, the author interweaves theoretical and experimental results to help give insight into the physical and historical foundations of the subject. A key feature of the book is that pulsed and time-harmonic signals are presented on an equal footing. Mathematical and physical explanations are enhanced by a wealth of illustrations (over 300), and the book includes more than 140 problems. It can be used as a textbook for advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in electrical engineering and physics, and will also be of interest to scientists and engineers working in applied electromagnetics. A solutions manual is available on request for lecturers adopting the text.

Book X Ray Optics and X Ray Microanalysis

Download or read book X Ray Optics and X Ray Microanalysis written by H. H. Pattee and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 641 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: X-ray Optics and X-ray Microanalysis covers the proceedings of the Symposium on X-ray Optics and X-ray Microanalysis, held at Stanford University on August 22-24, 1962. The book focuses on X-ray microscopy, microradiography, radiation and irradiation, and X-ray microanalysis. The selection first offers information on the methods of X-ray microscopy and X-ray absorption microanalysis. Discussions focus on X-ray scanning microscopy, contact microradiography, point projection microscopy, and total dry-weight determinations. The text then takes a look at X-ray microanalysis in biology and medicine; electron microscopic enlargements of X-ray absorption micrographs; and automation in microradiography. The publication examines the production of Fresnel zone plates for extreme ultraviolet and soft X radiation; quantitative microradiographic studies of human epidermis; and irradiation effect on total organic nerve-cell material determined by integrating X-ray absorption. The manuscript then reviews the calculation of fluorescence excited by characteristic radiation in the X-ray microanalyzer and the method for calculating the absorption correction in electron-probe microanalysis. The selection is a valuable reference for readers interested in X-ray technology.
