Book High Resolution X ray Spectroscopy of Cosmic Plasmas

Download or read book High Resolution X ray Spectroscopy of Cosmic Plasmas written by International Astronomical Union. Colloquium and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1990-04-26 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives an account of the proceedings of the International Astronomical Union Colloquium 115: High Resolution X-Ray Spectroscopy of Cosmic Plasmas. This was the first IAU meeting dedicated to high resolution X-ray spectroscopy of objects outside the solar system. A broad range of objects and astrophysical conditions are discussed. Results from the first generation of satellites with spectroscopic capability, i.e. the Einstein Observatory, EXOSAT, and Tenma, are reviewed from a perspective of a more precise interpretation allowed by improved theoretical models and plasma diagnostics. Laboratory and solar X-ray results that model or are relevant to conditions found in cosmic X-ray sources are also presented. The colloquium presents a forum for discussion of scientific objectives of new international missions in high resolution X-ray spectroscopy.

Book Iron Line Diagnostics in X ray Sources

Download or read book Iron Line Diagnostics in X ray Sources written by Aldo Treves and published by Springer. This book was released on 1991 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transitions from the innermost shells of iron, especially the K- and L-shelllines, provide a powerful tool for probing the physical characteristics of hot plasmas in X-ray sources. Their strength and purity allow important conclusions to be drawn even with modest energy resolution. They should also help in studying the regions around black holes and neutron stars. In this book the state of the art and themost recent theoretical and experimental observations are presented. The book will be a valuable source for future satellite missions. It addresses both researchers and graduate students in astrophysics.

Book Handbook of X ray Astronomy

Download or read book Handbook of X ray Astronomy written by Keith Arnaud and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-09-29 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern x-ray data, available through online archives, are important for many astronomical topics. However, using these data requires specialized techniques and software. Written for graduate students, professional astronomers and researchers who want to start working in this field, this book is a practical guide to x-ray astronomy. The handbook begins with x-ray optics, basic detector physics and CCDs, before focussing on data analysis. It introduces the reduction and calibration of x-ray data, scientific analysis, archives, statistical issues and the particular problems of highly extended sources. The book describes the main hardware used in x-ray astronomy, emphasizing the implications for data analysis. The concepts behind common x-ray astronomy data analysis software are explained. The appendices present reference material often required during data analysis.

Book Advances in X Ray Spectroscopy of Laser Plasmas

Download or read book Advances in X Ray Spectroscopy of Laser Plasmas written by Eugene Oks and published by . This book was released on 2020-07-06 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents advances in X-ray spectroscopy of plasmas interacting with a laser radiation and laser-induced plasmas. This research is practically important for the quest for the controlled nuclear fusion, for studying matter under extreme conditions, for providing atomic reference data, for laboratory modelling of physical processes in astrophysical objects, and for a better understanding of intense laser-plasma interactions. Advances in X-Ray Spectroscopy of Laser Plasmas significantly expands the scope of practical applications of X-ray spectroscopy of laser plasmas compared to traditional X-ray diagnostics of laser plasmas. The recent advances presented in this text make it possible to study the development of Langmuir waves, ion acoustic waves, transverse electromagnetic waves, parametric decay instabilities, as well as the rates of charge exchange between multicharged ions. Key Features Presents novel methods of X-Ray spectroscopy for both non-relativistic and relativistic laser-plasma interactions Includes methods of the X-Ray spectroscopy for measuring ultra-intense magnetic fields in laser plasmas Examines advanced designs of plasma-tunable X-ray lasers Demonstrates various analytical formalisms underlying the advances described in the book
