Book Applications of the Newer Techniques of Analysis

Download or read book Applications of the Newer Techniques of Analysis written by Ivor L. Simmons and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents a group of selected papers given at the November, 1972, meeting of the Eastern Analytical Symposium. As has always been the intent of the series, "Progress in Analytical Chemistry," the papers are written by authorities who are also active workers in their fields. Included are applications of Raman Spectroscopy, X-Ray Diffraction, Emission Spectroscopy, Nu clear Magnetic Resonance, Liquid Chromatography, Thin-Layer Chromatography, Pyrolysis Gas Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry, Gas Chromatography and the powerful marriage of the last two. In modern analysis there is a constant search for applications of existing instrumentation in new ways to produce results hitherto unobtainable. In every case both the versatility of the researcher and the flexibility of the method used are amply illustrated. Thanks are due to the authors of the papers for their efforts in coping with the many problems of producing a manuscript in finished form enabling rapid publication. Ivor L. Simmons Galen W. Book Chemical Analysis of the Environment and Other Modern Techniques

Download or read book Chemical Analysis of the Environment and Other Modern Techniques written by Sut Ahuja and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the rise in general awareness of the effects of trace chemicals in the environment on man's health, it has been realized that traditional methods of analysis are often inadequate. Reliable analyses are needed in the fractional parts-per million range of contaminants in condensed phases, and of the order of micrograms per cubic meter in air. Trying to get meaningful answers regarding such minute amounts raises cogent problems in all stages of an analysis. It is most appropriate, therefore, that the 1971 Eastern Analytical Symposium should have four half-day sessions devoted to this general field. Two of these, entitled "Trace Metals in the Envi ronment," were assembled by Dr. Kneip, one on "Pesticides in the Environment: Recently Discovered Analytical Problems," by Dr. Zweig, and one on "The Determination of Anions in Water," by Dr. Lambert. Together, these reports furnish a fairly complete picture of the present state of environmental anal ysis. The remainder of this volume is devoted to pharmaceutical analysis, a diversified field in which nearly all analytical methods find a place. Partly because of this multiplicity of techniques, and partly due to the large number of samples which must be examined in connection with the manu facture, biological testing, and clinical applica tion of pharmaceutical preparations, this area is particularly appropriate for the introduction of automation. The objective, broadly, is to speed up multiple analyses without the sacrifice of accuracy.

Book Progress in Analytical Chemistry

Download or read book Progress in Analytical Chemistry written by Ivor L. Simmons and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 8 in the series Progress in AnaZyticaZ Chemistry presents a selection of the papers given at the 1975 Eastern Analytical Symposium. The analytical chemist is under constant pressure not only from the research chemist whose sampIes he must characterize and control, but also from an ever-increasing group of governmental agencies stimulated by public concern over health and environmental problems, to determine the most sophisticated kinds of compounds as lower and lower levels. The subjects covered in these papers are wide-ranging, from the analysis of incinerator effluents to the determination of drugs in blood, but through them runs a common theme, the appli cation of the latest instrumental techniques to the problems of analysis. The authors show how successful they have been in rising to the analytical challenges pre sented by an increasingly complex world. The editors take this opportunity to thank them for their efforts in producing such excellent papers for publication in so short a time. Dur special appreciation goes to Dr. M. W. Miller, who acted as program chairman, and his team of session chairmen: P. R. Brown, L. J. Cline Love, C. Horvath, J. R. Lindsay, and T. C. Rains.

Book Computers in Analytical Chemistry

Download or read book Computers in Analytical Chemistry written by Charles H. Orr and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The analytical chemist is in the forefront of the race to use computers in laboratory work. The modern laboratory has a large number of instruments churning out information, and mechanized procedures for handling the huge amount of data are imperative. The marriage of instruments and computers is offered as a way of easing the burden on the scientist, as well as optimiz ing the performance of the analytical instruments. Computer systems can be applied to all the major analytical instrument procedures, and many of the leading instrument manufacturers are developing and producing systems for use in the laboratory, both for data acquisition and for control purposes. It is, therefore, timely that the session on computers in analytical chem istry of the Eastern Analytical Symposium, held in November 1968, be published in this series, which has as its aim progress in analytical chemistry. The contents are wide-ranging and include applications to mass spectrometry, X-ray spectrography, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, gas chroma tography, infrared spectrography, the use of dedicated computers, and the multiple user laboratory. Thanks are due to the authors of the papers and to the session chairmen for their efforts in the production of this very worthwhile addition to the series.

Book Advances in X Ray Analysis

Download or read book Advances in X Ray Analysis written by Charles Barrett and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-06-12 with total page 574 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The application of solid-state detectors of high energy resolution to x-ray spectrometry, and the increasing use of compu ters in both measurement and data evaluation, are giving a new stimulus to x-ray techniques in analytical chemistry. The Twentieth Annual Denver X-ray Conference reflects this renewed interest in several ways. The invited papers, grouped in Session I, review the charac teristics of the detectors used in the measurement of x-rays. One paper is dedicated to the detection of single ions. Although such a subject may appear to be marginal to the purposes of the Denver Conference, we must recognize the affinity of techniques applied to similar purposes. Ion probe mass spectrometry is dedicated to tasks similar to those performed by x-ray spectrometry with the electron probe microanalyzer. Scientists and technologists will see these two techniques discussed in the same meetings. The discussion of automation and programming is not limited to the two invited speakers, but extends to papers presented in more than one session. The matter of fluorescence analysis by isotope- and tube-excitation will also be of great interest to those concerned with the practical applications of x-ray techniques. The communications contained in this volume, and the lively discussions which frequently followed the presentation of papers, attest to the vitality of the subjects which are the concern of the Annual Denver X-ray Conference.
