Book Principles of Water Quality Management

Download or read book Principles of Water Quality Management written by W. Eckenfelder and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-04-24 with total page 718 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent legislation and more stringent effluent criteria are placing increased emphasis on effective water quality management. The past few years have seen increased emphasis on research and development into both conventional wastewa ter treatment processes as well as new and advanced technology. The purpose of this book is to present a concise summary of present theory, with emphasis on the application of that theory to both municipal and industrial wastewater treatment problems. This book, in large measure, is an updating of the author's previous books, Biological Waste Treatment, published by Pergaman Press, Industrial Water Pollution Control, published by McGraw-Hill, Water Quality Engineering for Practicing Engineers, published by Cahners Books. This book should be useful as a text for advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in Water Pollution Control, Industrial Waste Treatment, and Water Qual ity Management. The content of this book has been used as a text in Continuing Education Courses sponsored by Manhattan College, Vanderbilt University, and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. A series of problems applying the theories as developed in the text are presented where appropriate. For in-depth study of specific topical areas the reader is referred to the cited book references at the end ofthe text.

Book Biological Waste Treatment

Download or read book Biological Waste Treatment written by W. W. Eckenfelder and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-11 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biological Waste Treatment is the outgrowth of a course entitled ""Bio-oxidation of Organic Wastes—Theory and Design"" initiated at Manhattan College in 1955. The objective of the course was to present the fundamentals of bio-oxidation which would serve as a framework for the analysis, design, and operation of biological waste treatment facilities. This book reflects the authors' approach to the solution of waste treatment problems. It is intended as an engineering text that applies the principles of physics, chemistry, and biology of waste treatment to the design and operation of waste treatment facilities. The book begins with discussions of the pollutional characteristics of waste waters, the strength and flow of waste, waste treatment processes, and biochemical oxygen demand. Subsequent chapters cover the principles of biological oxidation, the theory and practice of aeration, stream and estuary analysis, and solid-liquid separation. The final chapters deal with aerobic and anaerobic biological treatment processes and sludge handling and disposal. Although this text is primarily intended to serve as a guide for the practicing engineer, it should also serve as a useful reference for graduate students in sanitary engineering.

Book Applications of New Concepts of Physical Chemical Wastewater Treatment

Download or read book Applications of New Concepts of Physical Chemical Wastewater Treatment written by W.W. Eckenfelder and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applications of New Concepts of Physical-Chemical Wastewater Treatment deals with novel concepts of physical-chemical wastewater treatment, with particular reference to their engineering applications. Topics covered range from ultrahigh rate filtration of municipal wastewater to the applicability of carbon adsorption in the treatment of petrochemical wastewaters, along with regeneration of activated carbon and dewatering of physical-chemical sludges. Comprised of 31 chapters, this volume begins with a discussion on the use of physical-chemical methods for the treatment of municipal wastes and for direct wastewater treatment. The following chapters focus on the interrelationships between biological treatment and physicochemical treatment; some problems associated with the treatment of sewage by non-biological processes; treatment of wastes generated by metal finishing and engineering industries; and the principles and practice of granular carbon reactivation. The precipitation of calcium phosphate in wastewaters is also considered, together with the use of surface stirrers for ammonia desorption from ponds. This book will be a valuable resource for chemists, engineers, government officials, and environmental policymakers.

Book Theory and Practice of Biological Wastewater Treatment

Download or read book Theory and Practice of Biological Wastewater Treatment written by K. Curi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2011-11-04 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among the challenges to mankind, few are more critical than the need to protect the environment. The rapid increase in population, coupled with the enormous rate on industrialization had a negative effect on the realization of this goal. As a result, the environ ment (water, air and earth) has been deteriorating more and more every day. It is only with the proper treatment of the wastes which are produced by man and his activities, that this deteriora tion can be stopped. Wastewater, is a major polluter of the environment. Although in many areas, science and technology has reached a level capable of preventing pollution, the reduction has not been realized for two reasons: (a) Lack of communication and transfer of knowledge to the desired extend between engineers and scientists, (b) Economic reasons. Good knowledge of the Biological Wastewater Treatment pro cesses is essential to overcome the economic handicaps. Because of that the improvement and dissemination of knowledge in this field was selected as the goal of the NATO - Advanced Study Insti tute held in Istanbul in July 1976. The lectures presented at this meeting have been compiled in the present volume.
