Book Worth s Greatest Stock Picks of All Time

Download or read book Worth s Greatest Stock Picks of All Time written by W. Randall Jones and published by Currency. This book was released on 2002-12-17 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learn How to Pick the Right Stock at the Right Time The momentum of the bull market spoiled us all—buying stock, any stock, was an almost surefire way to make a mint. Now, in a time of turbulent markets, stock picking has become a mixture of science and high art. With thousands of stocks to choose from, how can investors determine which ones will be future winners? We all know there’s a time to buy and a time to sell every stock, but when is the right time? Timing stock buys so that you catch upward momentum is not luck, and Randy Jones shows you how to hone your buying and selling skills by striving to analyze the factors that made winners of the great stocks in the past. Why was AT&T a great stock pick in the 1920s, Polaroid a winner in the ’40s, Xerox in the ’50s, Teledyne in the ’70s, and Intel in the ’90s? The potential of these stocks was in plain sight—for those who knew how to read the signs. And perhaps as important is understanding the signs of decline and knowing when to sell. Randy Jones analyzes twenty-five of the greatest stocks of all time, providing a framework for evaluating their strengths that can be used for future selections, including: • Linking great management and bottom-line profits: Who were the faces behind AIG, GE, and IBM that led to profitability, and what was it about these people’s management skills that made their companies so great? • Pathbreaking products: Polaroid, Xerox, and Amgen show that products that often seem to be overnight sensations were instead developed over many years, giving investors plenty of lead time to discover their potential as great investments. • The innovative business model: Avon, McDonald’s, and Dell reveal that understanding how a company makes money helps you to understand its strengths and vulnerabilities. • Investing during bad times: For some companies, such as Coca-Cola, Schlumberger, and Chrysler, nationwide economic downturns can actually be advantageous. Worth’s Greatest Stock Picks of All Time has invaluable lessons for anyone in the market today.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This insightful book by N. T. Wright explores both the meaning and the results of Christian worship. Part 1, "The God Who Is Worthy of Praise," focuses on what worshiping God actually means. Wright celebrates the greatness and beauty of God as the ground and reason for worship and shows how reflection on who God is leads us to true, heartfelt worship (from "worth-ship"), as we seek to give God all he's worth. Part 2, "Reflecting God's Image in the World," addresses a range of issues that flow from the activity of worship. Since worship can never remain isolated from the task of the church, Wright here explores how true worship leads to the mission of the church in various specific ways. Based firmly on sensitive and creative readings of the biblical text, this book is an inspiring call for renewal in the worship and witness of today's church.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a world riddled with disappointment, malice, and tragedy, what rationale do we have for believing in a benevolent God? If God is all-powerful and all-loving, why is there so much evil in the world? John Stackhouse takes a historically informed approach to this dilemma, examining what philosophers and theologians have said on the subject and offering reassuring answers for thoughtful readers. Stackhouse explores how great thinkers have grappled with the problem of evil--from the Buddha, Confucius, Augustine, and David Hume to Martin Luther, C. S. Lewis, and Alvin Plantinga. Without brushing aside the serious contradictions posed by a God who allows incurable diseases, natural disasters, and senseless crimes to bring misery into our lives, Stackhouse asks if a world completely without evil is what we truly want. Would a life without suffering be a meaningful life? Could free will exist if we were able to choose only good? Stackhouse examines what the best minds have had to say on these questions and boldly affirms that the benefits of evil, in fact, outweigh the costs. Finally, he points to Christian revelation--which promises the transformation of suffering into joy--as the best guide to God's

Book Do All Persons Have Equal Moral Worth

Download or read book Do All Persons Have Equal Moral Worth written by Uwe Steinhoff and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In present-day political and moral philosophy the idea that all persons are in some way moral equals is an almost universal premise, with its defenders often claiming that philosophical positions that reject the principle of equal respect and concern do not deserve to be taken seriously. This has led to relatively few attempts to clarify, or indeed justify, 'basic equality' and the principle of equal respect and concern. Such clarification and justification, however, would be direly needed. After all, the ideas, for instance, that Adolf Hitler and Nelson Mandela have equal moral worth, or that a rape victim owes equal respect and concern to both her rapist and to her own caring brother, seem to be utterly implausible. Thus, if someone insists on the truth of such ideas, he or she owes his or her audience an explanation. The authors in this volume-which breaks new ground by engaging egalitarians and anti-egalitarians in a genuine dialogue-attempt to shed light into the dark. They try to clarify the concepts of "basic equality", "equal moral worth","equal respect and concern", "dignity," etc; and they try to (partially) justify-or to refute-the resulting clarified doctrines. The volume thus demonstrates that the claim that all persons have equal moral worth, are owed equal concern and respect, or have the same rights is anything but obvious. This finding has not only significant philosophical but also political implications.
