This book was released on 2016-01-09 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the main purposes of music in church for which it is under-utilised is to have an easy way of learning sections of scripture. So many of these songs are translations or paraphrases of sections from the letters of Paul or the sayings of Jesus, and various other parts of the Bible. I have written quite a few of these songs as rounds but it is not necessary to play them as rounds, they all work quite well as worship songs in their own right. There are sad songs as well as happy ones. The Bible contains many sad psalms, laments, and passages expressing grief as well as consolation. Christian worship ought to acknowledge the full range of human emotions: while joy is the predominant note in the New Testament, even Paul acknowledges that the Christian life is not always a bed of roses. He says in 2 Corinthians 1:8, "We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about the troubles we experienced in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired of life itself." But the predominant note is joy, I hope, in the hope we all share, who believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and our own future resurrection when the new heavens and the new earth come to be.

Book excerpt: This version of Book I of Worship Jesus in Song is for the worshippers or congregation in a church, and as a simple, compact version of the book for guitarists or anyone else who uses chords to play the songs. Many of these songs are settings of passages from the Bible. Some of them are rounds, most of the songs will be easily singable by anyone, a few of them are complicated and only a worship team or choir that practices regularly will be able to sing them. (For more detailed instructions, refer to introduction in the Choir and Accompaniment book, or the SA(A) book.) There are sad songs as well as happy ones. In fact, the Bible contains many sad psalms, laments, and passages expressing grief as well as consolation, and Christian worship ought to acknowledge the full range of human emotions: while joy is the predominant note in the New Testament, even Paul acknowledges that the Christian life is not always a 'bed of roses' in 2 Corinthians 1:8, "We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about the troubles we experienced in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired of life itself." But every sad psalm in the Bible also contains some element of comfort, so also with these. But the predominant note is joy and thankfulness, in the hope all share who believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and our own future resurrection when the new heavens and the new earth come to be.

Book excerpt: One of the main purposes of music in church for which it is under-utilised is to have an easy way of learning sections of scripture. Many of these songs are my own translations or paraphrases of sections from the letters of Paul or the sayings of Jesus, and various other parts of the Bible, including the Psalms and some sections from Isaiah that prophesy Jesus' coming. I have written quite a few of these songs as rounds but it is not necessary to play them this way every time, they all work quite well as worship songs in their own right. There are sad songs as well as happy ones. The Bible contains many sad psalms, laments, and passages expressing grief as well as consolation, and I believe Christian worship ought to acknowledge the full range of human emotions: while joy is the predominant note in the New Testament, even Paul acknowledges that the Christian life is not always a bed of roses. Book The Truth That Sets Us Free

Download or read book The Truth That Sets Us Free written by John L. Bell and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What we sing shapes what we believe - this is an incontrovertible truth as regards the song of the Church. It has led many Westerners to believe that Jesus was a silent baby (Away In A Manger) and a docile child (Once In Royal David's City). It has suggested that militarism is an apt metaphor for discipleship (Onward Christian Soldiers) and this misconception is closely allied to decay (Abide With Me). It has also led to the assumption that, as regards religion, 'the West is the best' (O'er Those Gloomy Hills of Darkness, etc). This is not to discount the value of these and other favourite texts. It is, rather, to suggest that the songs we sing reflect the theology of our times, and theology is always in process because God is always on the move. The songs in this collection are not the antidote but rather a supplement both to traditional hymnody and to the narrow spectrum of biblical and emotional content in much praise and worship material. They are songs intended, as the title (which comes from the words of Jesus) suggests, to liberate us from limited horizons.Hence there are: songs which shun dated, churchy language and instead embrace contemporary speech; songs which prove that the southern hemisphere has more to offer than Kumbaya; songs which take the world seriously, because God takes it seriously; songs which allow worship to be more than predictable praise; songs which challenge the dominance of a performance mentality because they are meant for all to sing. Because we have never set out to provide peerless performances of flawless music, we hope that this album will not just be something to listen to, but may encourage all of God's people to sing.

In True Worshipers, a seasoned pastor and musician guides readers toward a more engaging, transformative, and biblically faithful understanding of the worship God is seeking. True worship is an activity rooted in the grace of the gospel that affects every area of our lives. And while worship is more than just singing, God’s people gathering in his presence to lift their voices in song is an activity that is biblically based, historically rooted, and potentially life-changing. Thoroughly based in Scripture and filled with practical guidance, this book connects Sunday worship to the rest of our lives—helping us live as true worshipers each and every day.
