Book The Legal Aspects of Educational Planning and Administration

Download or read book The Legal Aspects of Educational Planning and Administration written by Claude Durand-Prinborgne and published by Unesco. This book was released on 2002 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work analyzes the relationship between educational planning and the law, and provides the planner or administrator with invaluable tools for the elaboration and implementation of policies and reforms. The author presents the legal aspects of the different elements that make up the school system, and studies them in the context of the types of problems encountered by educational planners today. Several topical themes, such as decentralization and its administrative consequences, are looked at in particular detail. The study deliberately concentrates on countries that belong to the civil law tradition, thus complementing a previous title (n 46) in this collection on the common law countries.

Book Handbook of Research in Education Finance and Policy

Download or read book Handbook of Research in Education Finance and Policy written by Helen F. Ladd and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-08-21 with total page 786 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sponsored by the Association for Education Finance and Policy (AEFP), this groundbreaking new handbook assembles in one place the existing research-based knowledge in education finance and policy, thereby helping to define this evolving field of research and practice. It provides a readily available resource for anyone seriously involved in education finance and policy in the United States and around the world. The Handbook traces the evolution of the field from its initial focus on school inputs and the revenue sources used to finance these inputs to a focus on educational outcomes and the larger policies used to achieve them. It shows how the current decision-making context in school finance inevitably interacts with those of governance, accountability, equity, privatization, and other areas of education policy. Because a full understanding of the important contemporary issues requires input from a variety of perspectives, the Handbook draws on contributors from a variety of disciplines. While many of the chapters cover complex state-of-the-art empirical research, the authors explain key concepts in language that non-specialists can understand.

Download or read book Education Across Borders written by James Fegan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-02-21 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Universal Declaration of Human Rights endorsed in 1948 by member states of the United Nations continues to remain very much valid as it provides the solid foundation for most actions and activities that are aimed at guaranteeing the rights of everybody. The rights enunciated in the Declaration are comprehensive and two that are relevant to the content of this book are the right to education and the right to learn. The right to education and the right to learn are known to have been hotly debated by politicians, policy makers, and implementers. Sometimes, the rights in question here have found their way into political parties’ manifestoes, and advocates oftherighttoeducation andtherighttolearnhavebeenquicktobringintojudgment politicians who have not lived up to their promises. Even at that, many member states of the United Nations have taken steps to ensure that access to learning is jealously guarded. For education and lifelong learning remain among the primary forces that can guarantee individual, community and national development, as they had always been from time immemorial. Globally, there has been ample evidence of efforts made by governments to p- mote the widening of access to participation in learning activities. Even so, the literature on the subject of access and participation has not captured suf ciently what has happened across the world in terms of providing access outside national boundaries in the context of globalization and the rapid creation of the knowled- based economies of the 21st century.

Book Conversion and Jesuit Schooling in Zambia

Download or read book Conversion and Jesuit Schooling in Zambia written by Brendan P. Carmody S.J. and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2016-05-18 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a socio-historical study of schooling at Chikuni, a Jesuit mission station in Southern Zambia. It includes an examination of the dynamic processes operative at the mission over a 75 year period. During these years, the Jesuits interacted with successive generations of students and converts and with the representatives of successive political regimes, all of which were secular but each willing to use the mission as a means to its own ends. For many years Chikuni was the major representative of the Catholic church in southern Zambia. The emergence of a Catholic community is of its making. As its educational role expanded it also helped to form many who became leaders in post-independence Zambia. Though the Jesuits had not planned a political revolution, unwittingly they helped to bring one about. While the study identifies some of the difficulties connected with running a denominational school in present day Zambia, it argues for a more pivotal positioning of conversion as a socio-personal religious phenomenon in the curriculum if the mission school is to continue to be an effective agent of transformation.
