Book The Alby Mangels Story

Download or read book The Alby Mangels Story written by Lynn Santer and published by Jojo Publishing. This book was released on 2008 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Before Steve Irwin and Crocodile Dundee there was Alby Mangels -- the original Australian wild man and conservationist. An icon of the 80s who shot to fame and fortune through his ground-breaking World Safari series (as well as his many near death experiences and the beautiful women who were always in tow), Alby Mangels has finally broken fifteen years of self-imposed seclusion to re-emerge looking stronger, healthier and more daring than ever. At the height of his fame Alby Mangels was more than just a household name - he was a legend. His blockbuster travel documentaries, the WORLD SAFARI series, blazed a path into untamed territories. He explored the world and took us along. With an irrepressible spirit of adventure, his bull terrier by his side and a crew of willing accomplices, Alby's daring and dangerous exploits catapulted this very private person from obscurity to superstardom. The backlash was just as swift. Claims were made that his films were misleading and staged. A nature lover, he was accused of animal cruelty and even in his personal life Alby was often branded a 'playboy'. Now, decades on, Lynn Santer takes us beyond the WORLD SAFARI series to find the real Alby Manges - a legend who disappeared from the public spotlight no sooner than he'd found it. Discover the untold stories that followed, as Alby continued to explore the traditional cultures, natural wonders and incredible animals that share our planet. With a balance between the psychological impact that people and events had on Alby, and the pure action of his adventures, this book can take you on an exciting journey of its own. Anyone interested in adventure - who longs to experience it themselves, or just kick back and savour the adventures of others - will find 'The Alby Mangels Story' a satisfying trek into the world of a free-spirit and a spiritual inspiration.

Download or read book The Last Great Safari written by Corey W. Reigel and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2015-04-22 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Last Great Safari: East Africa in World War I, military historian Corey W. Reigel explores a fascinating and misunderstood theater of operations in the history of the First World War. Unprepared for the Great War, colonial units combined modern industrial weapons and equipment with traditional African methods to produce a hybrid force. Throughout The Last Great Safari, Reigel challenges myth after myth. Were really one million Allied soldiers pulled up from Europe to toil in the tropical sun only to fall victim to local diseases? Did the Germans truly become masters of guerrilla warfare and humiliate the British Empire in what appeared a David versus Goliath conflict? Reigel brings together traditional military studies and African history to explore the myths, fables, and stereotypes that have long characterized examinations of this topic, from questions as to how German East Africa contributed to the fate of the war to claims respecting significant diversion of resources. Racism played a significant role in then prevalent definitions of what constituted military success and in how Africans and Indians were recruited, holding more sway in the minds of white armies as a success factor than differences in weapons. Reigel points out how modern methods of medicine and transportation ultimately failed, only to be replaced by a hybrid of industrial Europe and traditional African solutions for dealing with an especially difficult climate. In the end, when necessity came to outweigh then current ideas of professionalism did German forces outfight their opponents. The Last Great Safari: East Africa in World War I will interest students of military history, African studies, and World War I, as this tale of colonial warfare within a war of attrition shaped part of Africa’s colonial future.

Book A Safari in the Equity World

Download or read book A Safari in the Equity World written by Ritesh Dhoot and published by . This book was released on 2019-11-05 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The bulls and bears are the most prominent inhabitants of the stock market jungle, but there are others too. When it comes to the stock market, investors may not immediately identify the other animals, birds and fishes who inhabit this world-fox, hawks, pigs, ostriches, chicken, wolves, sheep, dogs, stags, sharks, geese, frogs, cats, canaries and a few others. The hunting strategies and behavioural nuances of these creatures define the specific characteristics of the type of traders or investors or market scenario. In this well-researched and analytical book, Abu Dhabi-based stock market expert Ritesh Dhoot reveals many more unexplored and exciting evolutionary traits of animals that are amply evident in the world of stocks-a lion's opportunity, dolphin mud-nets, frozen flamingos, city monkeys, Hachi dog and much more. The book discusses how these traits are not only applicable to the equity world, but also have wider linkages to individuals, business and even society. Read this book to become an expert investor.
