Download or read book Resilience Is Futile written by Julie S. Lalonde and published by Between the Lines. This book was released on 2020-02-27 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For over a decade, Julie Lalonde, an award-winning advocate for women’s rights, kept a secret. She crisscrossed the country, denouncing violence against women and giving hundreds of media interviews along the way. Her work made national headlines for challenging universities and taking on Canada’s top military brass. Appearing fearless on the surface, Julie met every interview and event with the same fear in her gut: was he there? Fleeing intimate partner violence at age 20, Julie was stalked by her ex-partner for over ten years, rarely mentioning it to friends, let alone addressing it publicly. The contrast between her public career as a brave champion for women with her own private life of violence and fear meant a shaky and exhausting balancing act. Resilience sounds like a positive thing, so why do we often use it against women? Tenacity and bravery might help us survive unimaginable horrors, but where are the spaces for anger and vulnerability? Resilience is Futile is a story of survival, courage and ultimately, hope. But it’s also a challenge to the ways we understand trauma and resilience. It’s the story of one survivor who won’t give up and refuses to shut up.

Download or read book A Shepherd to Fools written by Drew Mendelson and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2021-08-12 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Shepherd to Fools is the second of Drew Mendelson’s trilogy of Vietnam War novels that began with Song Ba To and will conclude with Poke the Dragon. Shepherd: It is the ragged end of the Vietnam war. With the debacle of a failing South Vietnamese invasion of Northern Laos as background, A Shepherd to Fools tells the harrowing tale of a covert Hatchet Team of US soldiers and Montagnard mercenaries. They are ordered to find and capture or kill a band of American deserters, called Longshadows, before the world learns of their paralyzing rebellion. An earlier attempt to capture them failed disastrously, the facts of it buried. Captain Hugh Englander commands the Hatchet Team. He is a humorless bastard, sneering and discourteous to every regular army soldier. He cares little for the welfare of his own men and nothing for the lives of the deserters. The conflict between him and Captain David Weisman, the artillery officer assigned to the mission for artillery support, threatens to tear the team apart. Deep in the Laotian jungle, the team is caught in a final, horrific battle facing an enemy armed with Sarin nerve gas, the “worst of the worst” of the war’s clandestine weapons.
Download or read book Part Wild written by Deb Norton and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2016-09-06 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A must-read for any aspiring or seasoned writer.” —Huffington Post We all have the call to create. The question is…why don’t we answer it? We all come pre-loaded with a creative spark that drives us to innovate, explore, express, and make our unique contribution to the world. Often, though, that drive doesn’t get us very far down the road before it runs right smack into resistance—the mysterious force that thwarts creativity. But resistance needn’t be the enemy of writing—or any other creative endeavor. Deb Norton’s Part Wild provides fun and practical ways to turn resistance into a creative asset. Whether it presents as doubt, perfectionism, or Deb’s favorite: a chorus of withering inner critics, the power of resistance can be leveraged to launch the creative process with real momentum. Once we harness resistance, we can let our creative impulses off the leash. Norton has turned a decade of sold-out writing retreats and private coaching into a process for powering up your creative ideas. In Part Wild, she shares dozens of illuminating and effective practices and quick-start prompts that are guaranteed to get us out of our heads and onto the page. Just as The Artist’s Way gave millions of readers permission to explore their creative side, Part Wild shows writers of all levels of experience and skill how to harness the electrifying power of resistance and get writing.

What began as a form of tongue-in-cheek political protest has evolved into a visually spectacular exploration of value. By drawing on real currency, Josh encourages viewers to explore creative expression and question the concept of value itself. He has certainly altered these notes' worth, but whether Josh has increased or decreased their value is up for viewers to decide. Download or read book St Paul Street Provocations written by Patti Ross and published by . This book was released on 2021-07-13 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Patti Ross lived in Baltimore, Maryland from 2010 to 2013, just one block south of North Avenue on St. Paul Street. She found herself in a neighborhood somewhat blighted, slighted by its own city. The chess moves of gentrification were becoming more evident and in a short time, Maryland Institute College of Art would move in to change the face of North Avenue between Howard and St. Paul Street forever. Those from the neighborhood saw their displacement coming. They preached about it to whoever would listen and often Patti did. St. Paul Street Provocations gives proclamations to her friends' stories and their lives in a city given the nickname of "Charm City." As an advocate for the poor and marginalized, she wanted to share the stories and illuminate the voices of those forced to live with daily pauperism. While walking her dog often through the neighborhood she met several homeless and drug abuse individuals many of whom others walked past or scoffed at regularly. Patti stopped to listen to their stories, some believable, some not, but she listened each time they wanted to share. And wrote it down.
