Book excerpt: Julie Bertuzzi, the wife of NHL player Todd Bertuzzi and Hockey Mom extraordinaire, presents us with twenty hilarious portraits of the Hockey Moms we know and love. The perfect gift book for all seasons. Straight-shooting, observant, and uproarious, Julie Bertuzzi's Hockey Moms is an irreverent look at the many kinds of moms you are sure to find in the ice rinks, on the road, and in the hotel bars at tournaments across this hockey-loving continent. While always applauding the dedication of moms who support their players -- at early morning practices and on long drives to and from tournaments, in the triumph of a big win and the heartache of a big loss -- Bertuzzi pokes fun at herself and her fellow Hockey Moms, and brings alive the many characters she has observed during her years of experience as a Hockey Mom herself. Whether it's Big Mouth Betty shrieking from the stands, the Drama Queen stirring up trouble in the bar after a tournament game, Team Manager Mom with her clipboard and team jacket, the Yodeler, or the Leaner, readers will recognize and delight in these familiar profiles. This is a quick, funny read and a must-have book for Hockey Moms, and those who love them, everywhere.

Book Sunny Side Up

Download or read book Sunny Side Up written by Mike Blackwood and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2022-05-04 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You may come to the same conclusion another reader came to when I was in the early process of simply sending my stories out to gauge the interest of a potential book. She said, "You have led a charmed life." My first reaction was, "Are you nuts?" The fact is, although I grew up differently than almost all of you, I haven't had a charmed life, believe me. That sounds like in some way I have been "lucky" that I haven't experienced hardships, pain, or defeat. Nothing could be further from the truth. But I will tell you what is true, I have had a blessed life. Through it all, the Lord has kept me above my trials and tribulations, even when I didn't believe He was there. Through disappointment, death, disease, He was there. I truly believe that we all have choices to make in life. You can allow disappointments and discouragement in life to make you bitter, or you can use them to make you better. That's why I titled this book Sunny Side Up. It's how you view your circumstances and how you use them that make us who we are. To me, it's always been that simple, and before you ask, no, I am not a Southern version of Tony Robbins. I am just telling you the way I see it. So with that being said, I hope you will find some of these short stories humorous. I hope a few of them will give you pause to appreciate your blessings and one or two that will tug at your heartstrings to encourage you to be a better friend and neighbor. I know that some of these stories, if not all, will seem far-fetched or unbelievable to many of you, but like I said, I grew up differently than most of you, and my experiences in this life, to say it bluntly, are unbelievable in themselves. But this book really isn't about me at all; I am just a storyteller. I love telling stories about characters with character, and there are plenty of both in the stories before you. And before I forget, on behalf of my German shepherd Sadie and my black Lab Doc and myself, thank you for buying this book. We greatly appreciate it.

Book I Love My Hockey Mom

Download or read book I Love My Hockey Mom written by Flyers Novice AE Team and published by . This book was released on 2010-09 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After spending most of their parents' money on hockey fees and equipment, and after waking the house up at 6 am for countless early morning practices—isn't it only right that these kids give an expression of thanks and love (and a whole lot of laughs) to their parents? These books do just that. They were created as an opportunity for a Novice Rep Hockey Team, a little group of 8 year-old puck chasers, to express their feelings about their moms and dads, to tell them what they think for a change. The reasons they give are honest, funny, and true—all that you would expect from a group of 8-year olds! Asked why he loves his hockey mom, one answers without hesitating: “because she always skips out on work for it.” Why does his dad deserve thanks—not for the endless offside drills?—no, more for “distracting me while I am trying to play.” And their illustrations, done with crayons and markers, are simply charming.

Book Hockey s Original 6

Download or read book Hockey s Original 6 written by Mike Leonetti and published by Greystone Books Ltd. This book was released on 2011 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The hockey stars of the 1950s and '60s--Rocket Richard, Gordie Howe, Dave Keon, Bobby Hull, Jean Beliveau, Terry Sawchuk, Tim Horton, and others--were some of the most passionate players in National Hockey League history. These skillful and often colorful athletes played exhilarating hockey and were national heroes in a time when only six teams and fewer than 150 players battled for the Stanley Cup. Hockey's Original Six celebrates the most dynamic players and exciting moments of the era in more than 120 photographs from the legendary Harold Barkley Archives, including a number of never--or rarely seen--images. From 1942 until the early '70s, Barkley was the Toronto Star's leading sports photographer. He pioneered the use of electronic flash to capture stop-action hockey, and his dramatic work--both black and white and vibrant color--define the pre-expansion period. Two informative essays by Mike Leonetti-hockey historian, archivist, and prolific sportswriter--set Barkley and the photos in context, and short image captions illuminate the players and their feats. Jean Béliveau--hockey legend and elder statesman--provides a personal and insightful foreword. Combining iconic images and hockey lore, Hockey's Original Six is the perfect gift for sports fans, history buffs, and art collectors.
