Book excerpt: This paper highlights that the performance of the world economy in 1984 turned out to be considerably better than had been expected at the beginning of the year. Output grew robustly in the industrial countries, especially in the United States and Japan; inflation continued to decline; and developing countries saw a noteworthy improvement both in their balance-of-payments position and in their domestic growth performance. Fears that the debt situation might deteriorate did not materialize.

Book World Economic Outlook October 1985

Download or read book World Economic Outlook October 1985 written by International Monetary Fund. Research Dept. and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 1985-10-01 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents revised projections resulting from a country-by-country updating of the estimates published in the April 1985 World Economic Outlook. The projections are based on the usual technical assumptions of (1) unchanged nominal exchange rates among industrial countries; (2) unchanged oil prices in nominal U.S. dollar terms; and (3) “constant policies.” The report also stresses the interactions of policies and developments among IMF members. These interactions are particularly evident from the way in which differences in economic policy mix have affected domestic savings and investment positions and hence interest rate differentials and trade flows.

This book was released on 1985-01-01 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper highlights that there have been increasing signs of hesitancy in the pace of world economic expansion in the first half of 1985. In the United States, output growth declined to an average of 1 percent (at an annual rate) in the first two quarters of the year from 5.7 percent during 1984, and in other industrial countries, the pace of recovery was also generally subdued. Commodity prices fell significantly, thus weakening growth prospects in many developing countries.

Book World Economic Outlook April 2016

Download or read book World Economic Outlook April 2016 written by International Monetary Fund. Research Dept. and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2016-04-12 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Major macroeconomic realignments are affecting prospects differentially across the world’s countries and regions. The April 2016 WEO examines the causes and implications of these realignments—including the slowdown and rebalancing in China, a further decline in commodity prices, a related slowdown in investment and trade, and declining capital flows to emerging market and developing economies—which are generating substantial uncertainty and affecting the outlook for the global economy. Additionally, analytical chapters examine the slowdown in capital flows to emerging market economies since their 2010 peak—its main characteristics, how it compares with past slowdowns, the factors that are driving it, and whether exchange rate flexibility has changed the dynamics of the capital inflow cycle—and assess whether product and labor market reforms can improve the economic outlook in advanced economies, looking at the recent evolution and scope for further reform, the channels through which reforms affect economic activity under strong versus weak economic conditions, reforms’ short- to medium-term macroeconomic effects, and sequencing of reforms and coordination with other policies to maximize their potential quantitative economic benefits. A special feature analyzes in depth the energy transition in an era of low fossil fuel prices.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from World Agriculture, Vol. 40: Outlook and Situation Report; June 1985 Growth in the world economy will likely slow in 1985, to percent from percent in 1984, according to the recent World Economic Outlook published by the International Monetary Fund (imf). The expected slowing of economic activity in the United States, Japan, and Canada, and unchanged growth in Europe will combine to reduce the growth rate of the industrial countries from percent in 1984 to around 3 percent in 1985. Economic growth in the developing countries (ldc's) likely will increase this year to percent from percent in 1984; all regions except Asia are expected to expand at a higher rate than last year. Growth in Asia is likely to be double that in other regions. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book World Economic Outlook April 2024

Download or read book World Economic Outlook April 2024 written by International Monetary and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2024-04-16 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The latest World Economic Outlook reports economic activity was surprisingly resilient through the global disinflation of 2022–23, despite significant central bank interest rate hikes to restore price stability. Risks to the global outlook are now broadly balanced compared with last year. Monetary policy should ensure that inflation touches down smoothly, while a renewed focus on fiscal consolidation is needed to rebuild room for budgetary maneuver and to ensure debt sustainability. Structural reforms are crucial to revive medium-term growth prospects amid constrained policy space.

Book World Economic Outlook April 2015

Download or read book World Economic Outlook April 2015 written by International Monetary Fund. Research Dept. and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2015-04-14 with total page 884 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global growth remains moderate and uneven, and a number of complex forces are shaping the outlook. These include medium- and long-term trends, global shocks, and many country- or region-specific factors. The April 2015 WEO examines the causes and implications of recent trends, including lower oil prices, which are providing a boost to growth globally and in many oil-importing countries but are weighing on activity in oil-exporting countries, and substantial changes in exchange rates for major currencies, reflecting variations in country growth rates and in exchange rate policies and the lower price of oil. Additionally, analytical chapters explore the growth rate of potential output across advanced and emerging market economies, assessing its recent track and likely future course; and the performance of private fixed investment in advanced economies, which has featured prominently in the public policy debate in recent years, focusing on the role of overall economic weakness in accounting for this performance.

Book excerpt: This paper highlights that the world economic condition improved significantly during 1988. In industrial countries, output growth strengthened markedly in an environment of moderate inflation. World trade expanded at its fastest rate since 1984, which had important spillover effects on many developing countries, particularly the exporters of manufactures; significant progress was made in reducing external imbalances among the major industrial countries; and the aggregate debt-to-exports ratio of developing countries was reduced. At the same time, several aspects of the current situation continue to demand the attention of policymakers.
